Any awards, comments or faves will, as always, be truly appreciated.

I don't normally post more than one of a single species but I have to make an exception with this beautiful fallow deer doe. She has the melanistic colouring quite common in the Epping Forest herds but the colouring really suits the elegance of this lady. A beautiful creature.

SEPTEMBER, waiting for the rutting season
September, warten auf die Brunft.
The fallow deer, also called fallow deer in hunter's language, is a medium-sized deer. The shovel antlers of the male animals and the spotted summer coat are characteristic. Fallow deer are diurnal and prefer to live in open landscapes where small patches of forest alternate with agricultural areas. Fallow deer often occupy fixed rutting sites that last for decades and where they congregate annually.

I think this little Prickett has got the scent of something. Probably a little frisky with all the Does around him at this time of year? Although I fear he doesn't stand much chance with several large mature Bucks in the herd.

Portrait of a magnificent animal that posed graciously for me at Holkham Hall Deer Park in Norfolk last year. Which reminds me, I must make another visit there for the Rut this year.
After a couple of hours I thought my luck was out ... and then he turned up and my luck changed big time!

I bet this doe regretted wishing for a Jackdaw on her head.

This beautiful male was so relaxed that he would pose for another shot. Of course he was attentive but he let me do my thing while he was showing his best side. The velvet on his antlers is started to faint, as you can see on his right antler. Fall is on it’s way… It was a great day :-)
On Monday I took a walk without the camera - because it was a long one - and came upon a herd of about 30 very tolerant fallow deer. A mix of does and young bucks. So I popped back on the Wednesday to try and find them again - of course, I could only find one and it was very edgy. I suspect the rest of the herd was close but I couldn't find them - another day maybe.
