This little fellow came walking past is it a Fallow Deer.

On Monday I took a walk without the camera - because it was a long one - and came upon a herd of about 30 very tolerant fallow deer. A mix of does and young bucks. So I popped back on the Wednesday to try and find them again - of course, I could only find one and it was very edgy. I suspect the rest of the herd was close but I couldn't find them - another day maybe.

The set of 8 Fallow Deer photos were taken during a short break in Norfolk where the cottage was set in 36 acres of private meadow and woodland.

at Holkham Hall, Norfolk.

On our way to start a walk yesterday...we came across two separate groups of fallow deer...about 40 or 50 feet from the road...unusually and luckily for us..they didn't run off straight away...

What a joy - sunshine and the opportunity to get outside for an extended walk. My local fallow deer have survived the storms well but they were reluctant to be spooked this morning. I suspect they are tired. They tolerated me for over 30 minutes.

Dean Castle is situated in the Dean Castle Country Park in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland. It was the stronghold for the Boyd Family, who were lords of Kilmarnock for over 400 years. The Castle takes its name from ‘The Dean’ or wooded valley, a common place name in Scotland. However, until about 1700 it was called Kilmarnock Castle. Owned originally by the Boyd family, it has strong historical connections with many people and events famous in Scottish history. Robert the Bruce who gave the Boyds these lands; James III of Scotland whose sister married a Boyd; the Covenanters, some of whom were imprisoned here; Bonnie Prince Charlie, whose rebellion was joined by the 4th Earl of Kilmarnock and Robert Burns who was encouraged to publish his poetry by the Earl of Glencairn who owned the Castle at that time. A lovely few hours spent today at Holkham Deer Park in Norfolk. I was hoping to see some rutting going on, but there was very little actual rutting today, just a lot of posturing. But it still made for an interesting afternoon.

This Fallow Doe came in to investigate and see what was going on, she also enjoyed devouring all of the nuts that had been put out for the birds.

Several around at Holkham but no rutting while I was there.

While driving today I spotted a large number of fallow deers on the side of the road. Heavy traffic and nowhere to park, so I had to find some place to turn around and go back to the field and find a place to park. Walked along the road taking the heavy traffic as cover not to upset the deers. Managed to get a few shots of this smaller group as they were resting beneath a

large oak tree. They were free ranging within a large fenced area. But nevertheless they look wild.

In this morning's welcome sun I was an easy target to spot. This doe came upon me by surprise and was away.
