Decided to spend a little bit out back to see if more deer would come through. I did see one doe, but at that point it was already pretty dark, and she didn't get close enough for any good pictures. So here, enjoy these "backyard on a cool autumn night aesthetic" shots instead.

The scene was picturesque; this stunning adult Southern Red-backed Salamander (Plethodon serratus) capped off a truly mesmerizing morning of flipping for these guys. This was the last individual I photographed as a light rain and thunderstorm approached the foggy stream side. Nearby lichen- and moss-covered rocks eventuated the rich reds this salamander possessed, making this my favorite photo taken on this trip.

While traveling along a quiet Colorado backroad, I came across this beautiful grove of Aspen trees. The timing couldn’t have been any better, late afternoon light filtered softly through the leaves as spotty clouds drifted above, creating a perfectly soft backlight. And, this is why it’s worth slowing down and letting the road lead the way.
When I’m on a photography trip, I rarely follow a set agenda. Instead, I let the conditions guide me. On this day, I noticed clouds building over a distant mountain range and decided to chase the weather. That wandering path ended up leading me to some incredible light. Ansel Adams once said, “Luck follows a prepared mind.” I’ve found that to be especially true in photography. Knowing where the most potential lies helps guide my choices, but some of the best moments still aren’t planned at all, they just unfold when preparation meets opportunity.
