I got up this morning later than normal for a snow event due to a lack of confidence in what it would hold for my area. When I looked outside my suspect attitude was confirmed, about 1/2" and very little clinging to the trees. The temptation was to stay home since I have basically moved on from winter even if the weather has not yet. Figured what the hell, one last fling couldn't do any more harm than wasted time and gas. I knew the snow was packing more of a punch up north but the closest scenic spot that would work this day I have already shot to death in the snow, that being Apple Orchard Falls.
Headed over to Roaring Run first and shot the snow and stream there, surprised at the rather weak water flow of the falls since it's not like things have been dry here of late...but that's how most of our VA waterfalls roll, looking good for but a few days after wet weather and then go away. Little mountains= small watersheds. The wind was pretty bad here and I was trying some stacked shots since there was snow all over everything and the sky fairly interesting. Will take some time to process those.
Going for broke since I was 1/2 way to Falling Springs Falls, one of the nicer in VA, with some real question marks on the mountainous roads getting over there and whether or not the inevitable wind would crash things. The roads were not too bad but did require the first real snow driving, and when I started up the highway after Covington saw the most pristine and beautiful winter scenery yet! It was all great around the falls with very little wind.
Turbo, my 2 year old Border Collie was along and he doesn't like this place due to the boulder field one must negotiate down from the highway. He'll go almost anywhere but hates those rocks even without snow. I got on down and for awhile didn't know if I was going to be able to convince him to come on around through the woods, but he finally did it. The water was lower than my usual visits here which meant the spray was not as bad, it can severely limit things when the falls are really looking good. I hear a lot of lesser flow is OK and sometimes better stuff and I think that is just people displaying more of a positive attitude than I, making the most of what they get dealt. I like my waterfalls flowing very well, not flood stage, but good spring wet weather full.
One will never get this shot with a better water flow though. Could barely get it today and had to wait for the spray cloud to drift other ways before I could shoot. This is 2 horizontal shots stacked, didn't do a lot of work on the image since it's not a very colorful place this time of year and the warm springs fed stream generates so much heat it melts the snow away for quite a distance. This is one of the lesser comps I got there just thought I would throw it out first, need to get the others out quickly since as I said before I'm done with winter.
When I got back up top I got a little chuckle inside about these 2 other photographer guys that were probably 10 and 20 years younger than I and weren't about to go down to the bottom, one guy got 1/2 way down before going back and the other refused. I shot some more above the falls too.
I loved the music of the 80's and that's why I love so much of this new indie stuff, reminds me of then Dan Croll "From Nowhere"

Life is one big jigsaw we spend years assembling all the pieces together and start skirting around the edges setting up the boundaries that will keep all the pieces together.
Sometimes we have great progress then things slow, every now and then we place the wrong piece into a section that confuses us and sets us in the wrong direction.
And then out of the blue all the piece fall into place showing us the full picture.
Its taken a long time to reveal mine mainly because my puzzle kept getting knocked off the table.
I hope you find the last piece of your jigsaw.
something I really like about this photo apart from its a nice picture. I think it the way my right hand is just so naturally placed. these things are becoming more noticeable every day.

Bridalveil Fall is 188 metres (617 ft) and flows year round.[2] The glaciers that carved Yosemite Valley left many hanging valleys which spawned the waterfalls that pour into the valley. All of the waterways that fed these falls carved the hanging valleys into steep cascades with the exception of Bridalveil Fall. Bridalveil still leaps into the valley from the edge of the precipice, although that edge has moved back into an alcove from the original edge of the valley. While Yosemite Falls seem to also fall into this category, the original course took the Yosemite Creek down a gorge to the west of its current location.[3] The primary source of Bridalveil Falls is Ostrander Lake, some 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) to the south.
When the wind blows briskly, the waterfall will appear to be falling sideways. During lesser water flow, the falls often don't reach the ground. Because of this, the Ahwahneechee Native Americans called this waterfall Pohono, which means Spirit of the Puffing Wind.[4]

For this card I used the envelope pattern and the find joy set from HA.
The tree is one of the HA designs for the silhouette. The link to the shape is on the supplies on the blog.
We did not get a lot which other places around us did. The roofs are white the grass is moderately covered. I’m going to get the shovels and the car scrapers out this afternoon. Ugggg.
Shoes say a lot about a person. I'm curious to know what mine say about me? They're all gray with random patches of brightly-colored plaid underneath. Converse All Star, of course. ♥

Someone on Twitter commented on how I stop taking pictures..... (Hi Matt.)
I decided that yes, I need to pick up my camera more. I need to bring it with me more and when I bring it with me I need to use it.
So begins a not-everyday-but-more-often-than-not photo project.
P.S. I am in LOVE this with shot. These leaves were just BEGGING to have their picture taken. Gosh, I love fall.
One yellow leaf. Seeing this one yellow leaf on a tree made me feel hopeful that Fall is (finally) on its way.

life is a freefall
we're all falling
from the start
for love
for lies
for something to believe in
we fall forever
until someone catches us
but the fall doesn't stop
we just...
fall together
but sometimes
their arms get tired
they let go
we continue to fall
& they fall too
but no longer is it for one another
it's for one other
person to believe in
we aren't searching
we're falling for someone
who's worth the catch
in a split second they're there
in our arms
& in a familiar second they can be
just gone
but we don't stop falling
& our arms don't truly tire
they're always ready to catch someone new
even if we aren't
& we're always ready to wrap our arms
around a someone new
& even if we yet don't know it
life is a freefall
but the key is
to remember
we're not alone
we're all falling
a freefall
searching for something true
