Eastern prickly pear makes a nice little focal point in a small border, in my case along the waterfall, needs some cutting back after they finished blooming,
Eastern prickly pear tends to spread open and low as it grows, Use caution when working with any cactus. even the young, fuzzy looking seedlings can stab. Rose gloves, tweezers and kitchen tongs will come in handy.
I use the long barbecue utensils to cut them back.
Those flowers never stop blooming and they are beautiful I think!

One from the January archives... taken in front of the cottage we stayed in while we holidayed on the East Coast. Oh, how I'd love to be back there now....

I imaged this at 3000mm focal length because it’s only a mere 7.8 seconds of arc in diameter.
One of the downsides of imaging at this focal length is that the seeing conditions have to be good and, unfortunately, they weren’t on this night.

My third annual attempt to capture a fuchsia.
This is getting closer to where I wanted to be with this subject. It's still not exactly what I wanted, but maybe I'll get another chance this year :). The colors of this flower are so vivid and the curves of the shape are so delicate that it's worth the extra effort.
As with many of my flower macros, this was shot on a light table and was illuminated from behind.
This photo is a depth stack of 6 separate images, each of which focuses at a slightly different distance. I was shooting at f/32 to get maximum depth of field, but even then, when the nearest element was in focus, the farthest was out of focus and vice versa. The solution is to shoot multiple images at different focal lengths and then composite them in a Photoshop depth stack.

Yesterday I spent a few Hours in the BMW World in Munich, one of my favourite Places to take Photos. This is my most loved one I took yesterday. Dedicated to Stadt-Kind, one of my Flickr Followers, an Expert in Bokeh!
BMW Welt (English – BMW World), is a multi-functional customer experience and exhibition facility of the BMW AG, located in Munich, Germany. In direct proximity to the BMW Headquarters and the Olympiapark, it is designed to present the current products of BMW, be a distribution center for BMW cars, and offer an event forum and a conference center.
Design and Construction:
In 2001 an international architectural design competition was sponsored by BMW AG. Twenty-seven offices participated in the competition four of which were awarded prizes. The jury awarded two offices Sauerbruch Hutton and COOP HIMMELB(L)AU first prize and made the recommendation for the competitors to rework their design submissions in a third design phase in order for BMW to determine which office would be awarded the contract.
The contract was awarded to the Vienna-based architects COOP HIMMELB(L)AU and the facility was constructed from August 2003 through summer 2007 at a cost of US$200 million. Originally conceived to be open and ready for World Cup 2006, it eventually opened on October 17, 2007, and deliveries commenced on October 23, 2007. The first customer to take European delivery of a new BMW at the Welt was Jonathan Spira. There were 2,200,000 visitors during the first 12 months of operation. The number of visitors increased to 2,930,000 in 2013, of which 60% came from Germany.
Designed with an 800 kW solar plant on its roof, "the building does not have the boredom of a hall, it is not only a temple, but also a market place and a communication center and meeting place for knowledge transfer", said architect Prix at the opening ceremony.

Dresden a city full of emotions. The range of feelings that this city has to offer is immeasurable. The newer Dresden with the Church of Our Lady. The view of the terraces and the underpass of the Münzgasse.
This song human by rone is exactly the range of feelings that accompanied me in this city. The sadness from the past is but also the departure and happiness of the future.

While hiking along the backside portion of the Cinder Cone Trail with a view looking to the southwest across the volcanic painted landscape. This is in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Lassen Peak, a distant backdrop beyond some nearby evergreen pine trees, serves as the focal point of this image. As I aligned myself to compose this image, I wanted to zoom in with the focal length to emphasize the mountain peak, while including some of the surrounding national park landscape for foreground interest.

Never really know what's going to happen shooting portraits. Sometimes I need to work with a model for a couple of sessions to figure out which angles work and which do not. Other times I just approach complete strangers and shoot in a session that lasts no more than a minute or two. There's no rhyme or reason to the results.
This portrait falls into the complete stranger-two minute category. Increasingly I'm finding success has little to do with the technical side of photography. For me it's all about posing the person while making them feel comfortable with the process. I think my photographic skills plateaued some time back. It's the posing stuff where I show continued growth. People really seem to respond favorably when I sound like I know what I'm doing. And the more I do this sort of work, the more I actually believe I know what I am doing.
Odd thing about these portraits is the look often transcends the person's actual appearance. It's like seeing something only by looking at it from a certain angle. If I'm lucky, my lens aligns directly with the person's soul, even if just for an instant. It's as if a veil has been lifted, and in that instant a very intimate glimpse of the person is revealed. This girl's gaze and enigmatic smile are hauntingly compelling.
