I've always been intrigued by the texture and look produced by shooting with a long focal length lens in a snow storm. This year with COVID and staying home I've had more time to study my everyday surrounding like this view from my deck of the trees and woods at the back of my property, I look at them everyday and especially when it snows. I've been trying different compositions but none were exactly what I wanted. That being said, I did use one in the icicle shot that I posted. I thought I'd try again and I think I found what I was looking for. A nice composition with pleasing lines and balance. I like it because it sits good with me, the chaos of the smaller branches with their horizontal and diagonal flow support the strong near vertical lines of the trees leaning to the left and then leaning to the right. Then the cold texture of the snow completes the image! Well that's what I was thinking anyway. I hope you enjoy this bit of my winter snow storm.

It was our usual walk, for which I took my camera and tripod, in the hope that I would find Sasanki. Unfortunately, this year, in the place where they grew, I did not find them - nothing is lost, maybe tomorrow in another place. My wife and I took a slightly different route than usual, behind the castle towards Zychorzyn i Rusinów. There, a small river Brzuśnia flows out of the forest (the right tributary of the Drzewiczka). There is usually a pool in front of the bridge and a small clearing next to it strewn with yellow spring flowers with butterflies bending over them. We went down there, and there were real wonders, in the comfort and warm spring sun. This is the first photo from here. In this case, focusing is the key to taking full advantage of this lens.

Kirkjufell mountain and the coastal road near the town of Grundarfjörður, on the north coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula, Iceland.
Kirkjufell (Icelandic: Church Mountain) is a 463 m high mountain. This beautiful landmark is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Its isolated position jutting out into the sea makes it a focal point for tourists and seamen alike. Surrounded by beaches, Kirkjufell has a lovely walking trail around it as well as a more challenging climb up to the top where bird and fish fossils can be found.
On digital cameras there is often a Macro Focus mode which switches the auto focus system to attempt to focus on subjects much closer to the lens.
We measure macro ability (of cameras with non-interchangeable lenses) in our reviews as the ability of the lens to get the best possible frame coverage. So a camera which can fill the frame with a subject that is 20mm wide has better macro capabilities than one which can only capture a 40mm wide subject.

For a change of style, but to stay on the theme of Paris, I propose you some views of the city taken with long focal lenses, which can give a tight frame and sometimes original points of view

Caught a glimpse of a gentleman with a hat while I was turning round and managed to take a last second snapshot
We're don't know which side of our families of origin took such loving care of this pocket watch through the years. The inscribed date on the inner cover reads April 1920.
I experimented with apertures, extension tubes, and focal points, and had a fine time while it rained. I had intended to add it to Macro Mondays last Monday until I noticed that I had entered an older macro two years ago.
Thanks for looking, and for your faves ;)

Through the year there are rare events that take place that really capture my imagination, fall leaves, spring bloom, thunderstorms... Fireworks though, that's one I truly enjoy. In essence it is a simple idea, a quick composition, easy to gain focus quickly even when shooting manual lenses. The joy is palpable, the crowd is paying attention to one thing only, everyone solely focused on this transformative art. Oohs, Ahhhs ring out through the night under the percussive sounds of the fireworks. Beauty unfolds, a flower blooms and vanishes just as quickly into the night, and for a fleeting moment you, as a photographer have to find your composition, address the focal length you're using, adjust on the fly. And before you really know what's going on, it's all over and the crowd disperses and you're left all alone packing your gear back up, hoping you managed to capture a small slice of the night.

HOBBY: Computing, as in building computers, repairing, and any electronics. Never toss an electronic or computing component even if deader than the proverbial doornail. My husband is the expert. I’m trying to learn.
WHAT: Light-emitting diodes (LED) pre-cut (or before sizing) in/on a breadboard. Yes, shallow depth of field. By choice!
FOCAL POINT: Third from left LED in front row.
LIGHTING: Components are in a soft box lighted on two sides by standing Photogenic StudioMax lights triggered by an off-camera SB 800 strobe at 1/64 power.
SIZE: The breadboard (base with holes) measures 2 in / 5.08 cm), and with the negative/unused space equals about 2.5 in / 6.35 cm.
The height including negative/unused space measures 1.75 in / 4.45 cm.

Australia is suffering a major climatic disaster. Those infernal fires are of gigantic proportions, that are hard to imagine for most of us. Climate change is real. Young people have realized and are shouting for help, but sadly, politicians seem to don't care. In Mexico our ignorant president are supporting fossil fuels instead of renovable energies, which is a tremendous error for our future. Hope we can make a change before this is unavoidable.
