7 January - A Doll A Day 2022
Vienna tram cars 4011 and 1411 arrive at the stop in front of Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, working route D from Alfred-Adler-Straße to Nußdorf.
For much of its life, route D had terminated at Südbahnhof (the stop is now called Quarter Belvedere), but when the new Hauptbahnhof was built (utilising the Südbahnhof site and more), route D was extended under the railway, initially (December 2012) by two stops to Alfred-Adler-Straße, but late (in December 2019 - since this photo was taken) two stops further to meet routes 6 and 11 at Absberggasse.
4011 is a Duewag-design (albeit SGP-built) type E₂ motor car dating from 1978, while 1411 is a c₅ trailer car of the same vintage (albeit built by Lohner). They are the last of the instantly-recognisable high-floor Vienna articulated three-bogie trams with two-bogie trailers, the first of which (type E) appeared in 1959, and are expected to be taken out of service by 2026.
After travelling to Vienna by train over three days (with overnight stops in Nürnberg and Jihlava in the Czech Republic) for a steam-hauled railtour over a non-passenger line, today was spent mostly on trams in Vienna before departing for an overnight stay in Linz (albeit via the new route to Wien Flughafen) and then a few days based in Dresden, exploring secondary lines in Saxony. The last three days had been very hot with unbroken sunshine, so I'd hoped to spend much of today photographing rail-based transport around the city. But the weather broke, and the morning was completely overcast, so I ended up visiting the temporary terminus of one tram route (being cut back as a result of a new U-Bahn line) as well as the extended route D. But then I noticed blue sky was coming in from the north-west, so I jumped on a route D tram and headed over this way for some serious photography.

Wowweeeee what a banger!!!! Probably the roughest looking car I've ever seen on the UK's roads (this picture makes it look a lot better than it really is!).
These are seriously hard to come across now, these third generation Ford Granadas. This is a Ford Granada L diesel, and is the only one on the roads anywhere in the UK! (according to HML) Seriously lucky find, and only about 5 miles from where I live too!!!!
This car is not going to last long at all, by the looks of things. If this car gets scrapped (looks possible) then the Ford Granada L diesel will become extinct on Britain's roads.
Save this please!
Not sure about wheel trims, but it adds to the beaten up appearance!
