ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG: the Wien FJB underground station has five tracks, and is currently used by several regional and suburban train lines that run north and west of the capital.

Thomas Schütte’s 'Model for a Hotel 2007', which sits atop the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square, lends itself perfectly to those of us who like to dissect a shot - every angle reveals a new structure. It's quite amazing.

An architectural model of a 21 storey building, constructed in specially engineered red, yellow and blue glass, it is over 8 tonnes in weight and about 5 metres tall.

Almost 40 years old ÖBB 4020 304 (delivered as 4020 104) still waering its white and blue livery is seen as train S 21039 from St. Pölten to Wien FJB near Traismauer. These EMU's will be replaced by newer low floor trains in near future.

When these cars went into production in 1934, they were technically very advanced for the time with a monocoque body shell, front wheel drive, independent front suspension, hydraulic breaks and from 1936 rack and pinion steering. The styling of the body was the work of Italian artist and sculpture Flaminio Bertoni.

They were much lower, sleeker and had far better cornering and handling capabilities than most other cars of the period. For this reason they were used by both the Germans and the Freach Resistance during WW II and by criminals and the police, including the fictional French detective Maigret.

Citroen also produced cars in Slough, Berkshire. Local assembly and a high degree of British components allowed the cars to avoid heavy import duty that was imposed to protect British car manufacturers. It also meant they could be importer to British colonies where a system of 'imperial preference' favoured British sourced cars.

The Slough built Tractions differed from the French and Belgian versions, not only because they were mainly right hand drive but also that they had leather seats rather than cloth and wooden dashboards instead of metal.

This car is a small boot version 'Light Fifteen' model with a 1911 cc four cylinder engine. Later models had a larger boot grafted on. The 'Light' is to differentiate it from the 'Big Fifteen' long wheel version. The 'Fifteen' refers to the fiscal horsepower, not the break horsepower, used by the government to apply car tax.

Production of the Traction at Slough finished on September 1955.

I'm not sure about you but today sees the start of my holiday season. Oh yes! And so just in case some of you are rushing off for the holiday period, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for making this year a very, very special one for me.

Over the last twelve month I have not only discovered a joy for photography, I've also 'met' many wonderful new friends. We have laughed together, teased each other, shared private thoughts, helped and coached each other - and this is all the more amazing when I think that this time last year I hadn't come across any of you!

Anyway, I'll shut up now except to say thank you once again and to wish you all a peaceful and restful time.

(Whoops, I nearly forgot to mention that this is an abstracted view of Vent, a street-level structure near Paternoster Square in the City of London, that serves as the ventilation shaft for an underground electricity sub station - and, to me, today, looks like a Christmas Tree! :)

Twice before I've posted my 'last' shot of Covent Garden's Bridge of Aspiration, but it has so many possibilities and I love the structure so much that I'm staying with it for a little while longer!

The bridge - nicknamed the 'twisted concertina' - connects the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet School,

This is (maybe) the last shot I'll post of the ventilation shafts at Heathrow's new Terminal 5 building. There are more but I think we're close to having seen enough now... :)

This shot - a close up of the tops of two of the three shafts - is from the T5 and vent sets.
