Slowly building the beast from Alien: Isolation - 1:18 scale. I'm thinking that the lower half of this beast will have limited articulation because of stability...perhaps not. I haven't decided yet. I don't see a reason for the upper legs to ever straighten vertically. Right now concentrating on the sculpt of the lower legs. Sculpt update on The Queen - Aliens (86) - and the Egg Morpher - Aliens: Defiance - Dark Horse Comics. Both 1:18 scale.
The Queen
Completed the rough sculpt of the lower mandible and teeth. The lower mandible is a skeletal sculpt for the moment while I adjust and refine the teeth. After the lower teeth are complete, flesh detail will be added to the mandible.
The teeth are being sculpted on a separate pallet, so when completed can have a mold made and cast in clear resin. The teeth are individually sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two-part epoxy from Aves Studio LLC. Once cured, I've begun refining each using dental tools and fine-grit sandpaper. Hope to have them at a full shine similar to the top set of teeth soon.
I still have to sculpt the gum line for the lower teeth and the pallet will eventually be set deeper into the lower mandible than what you see here. Many adjustments will be made after castings are made. Then additional casts will be made.
Do the top and bottom teeth line up? Close but not really - not too concerned with that since my sculpt will feature multiple head sculpts and not a jointed jaw. So perfect alignment isn't a priority here...although I will do my best to get it as close as possible before making molds.
The Egg Morpher
Began filling the detail to the back "pipes" of the beast. I've also begun the sculpt of the creature's hands which will be very similar to the Giger Alien hands but larger. The rough sculpt right now resemble Bugs Bunny gloves and not that of the nightmarish xenomorph but no worries, that will all change....just how I work.

Been a crazy couple weeks with the Holidays ramping up and office work to be completed...but things are slowly getting back to normal and I finally had some time to complete one of the hands to the Egglayer Xenomorph.
I haven't sculpted many hands so it's a fun challenge and allows me to accumulate some teachable moments through trial and error. What doesn't kill you will make you stronger right?
Elongated fingers are creepy so I may have slightly drifted from the comic reference material a tad but I think it will add to the finished figure. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, I have included a before and after shot for those interested, as well as a scale shot for the curious.
I will sculpt the second hand in the same dynamic fashion along with a neutral set of hands similar to the smaller Big Chap I did a few years back.
May be my last update for the new year? Not sure. Anyway, thank you all for your continued support! I hope to bring much more to the custom hobby next year. 2019 was a struggle to get things moving but I battled through it.

Started to sculpt the centerpiece to the Nostromo sleep chamber, bringing all seven separate chambers together. ALIEN 1979 - 1:18 scale. I considered creating the center station entirely out of sheet styrene but decided a combination of clay, cast and styrene will work best. First step will be to sculpt the body of the centerpiece...minimal detail at best. Second will be to mold and cast the finished sculpt, cast and refine shape. Next I'll add detail with sheet styrene and other greeblie work needed and finally mold and cast the finished piece, bring the pods back together and mend gaps using epoxy making the connections seamless. #alien #sleepchamber #nostromo #sith_fire30

Sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt from Aves Studio.
I'm close to completing the mouth of the Alien Queen - finished sculpting the lower gum line around the teeth of the lower jaw. Also started to flesh out the lower jaw a bit but have much more detailing to add before it's considered complete.
Both the top and lower set of teeth have been sculpted separate and will be cast eventually using a semi-clear resin..or crystal clear, and painted afterward.
This coming week I want to complete the teeth and lower jaw and set up the components to the head for molding and casting. From there we go to the neck as well as the Queen's inner jaw.

Been a crazy couple weeks with the Holidays ramping up and office work to be completed...but things are slowly getting back to normal and I finally had some time to complete one of the hands to the Egglayer Xenomorph.
I haven't sculpted many hands so it's a fun challenge and allows me to accumulate some teachable moments through trial and error. What doesn't kill you will make you stronger right?

Busy sculpting the lower abdomens of three projects so far, this being one of them. Completed the spinal column last night - not worried about limited to the articulation at this point. Only caring about the sculpt. Articulation can be solved in the casting phase where I don't have to cause damage to the master sculpt...."cause damage" may seem a little harsh. How about "make adjustments" lol! More updates to come.

Build progress on The Narcissus Shuttle "The Stowaway" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Been busy working on some major adjustments to the shuttle wall that contains the beast...but first I...
- Completed the corrugated design of the upper wall.
- Finished adding the base to the wall.
Once that was completed I discovered the wall was extremely too tall in relation to the 1:18 scale "Lucky Star" Ripley figure. The "cubbyhole" the alien fits into was to too open height wise. So I went back and literally cut the wall in half down the middle horizontally and removed three quarters of an inch from the top section. Then brought to two parts back together and patched it.
Even though the height of the wall is still about .125" too high in my opinion, it's acceptable now. Working on the separate console having to make adjustments to the height of the piece to mach the newly scaled wall panel - may just rebuilt the console from scratch.
The "cubbyhole" for the alien is on target height wise now smile emoticon Began adding pipes(styrene rods) within the compartment. The alien will be removable but only from the back of the wall build through a detachable panel held by magnets. More actual build images will come soon.
Both the centerpiece tower and wall panel are close to having the smaller details added. May consider building the other wall panel opposite this one to keep the job at an equal progression. More to come!.....#alien #nostromo #narcissus #shuttle #stowaway #ripley #luckystar #diorama

Sculpt progress on the Derelict Corridor Diorama - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Still building the surface of the corridor and began to build the opposite wall per the design they used in the production build. The top and bottom sections of the new wall are held with aluminum rods and will be sculpted over and gaps filled with Aves FIXIT sculpt. Sculpt update - Began working on the build late last week but haven't had time to post updates so what you will see here is a series of images taken along the course of several days (more like very late nights). The material I am using is Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.
I always begin with sculpting the head first. This creature is larger that the standard xeno warrior so the figure will be featuring a completely new sculpt, no recast parts from others I've made. The body will be similar to the big chap (alien 79), but slightly larger, with longer limbs and fingers. I'm staying true to the artists concepts and panel depictions of the beast within the comic....to the best of my ability. This isn't my first rodeo when it comes to sculpting comic based characters (Star Wars anyone?).
The skull will be a hard shell, similar to the warrior drone. Very similar to the spitter alien (Colonial Marines) so I'm using a reduce frame of an existing spitter head cast. The head sculpt will feature both an open and closed mouth. Waiting to find out if the beast features a traditional inner jaw or an expanding protrusion similar to the Deacon from prometheus. About a half inch longer than the warrior drone head.

Sculpt progress on the Neomorph - 1:18 scale - Alien:Covenant
Tabled for a few weeks while I got started on a few others projects but back at it over the weekend focusing on the mouth. I have mentioned that I plan to do variants of this head sculpt (open mouth, closed, concept etc) and decided it would be easier to build the variants if I was to sculpt the open mouth first than to try to do it vice-versa.

First was to drill and clear out a cavity for the mouth's opening, then build up the mandible, allow to cure, then the tongue and upper jaw.

I hope to have the head sculpted and reduce the ear openings a bit on my next go. Devastator stands slightly over 22" tall. He is a statue-type (non-transforming) replica. He has super articulation in his head (ball joint), shoulders, upper arms, elbows, wrists, fingers/hands, waist, hips, upper leg (swivel), lower leg (swivel) knees, and his left foot is on a ball joint (cab of Mixmaster) His head was built with epoxy (ave's fixit) and will be available (one day) for casts.
Devastator's got LEDs in his alternate head (white as per customer's request) as well as on Scrapper and Bonecrusher.
His custom gun comes from a GI Joe Sigma six figure and has an on/off switch which controls a bright red laser.
My sculpt of Darth Maleval as seen in the Dark Horse comic Star Wars Legacy. Fully sculpted and painted using Aves FIXIT and Testors Floyquil paints. Fully articluated, Approx. 5.125 inches High. - In scale to the Hasbro Star Wars 3.75 inch figures.
It just got a fresh paint on the other side of the car to match the drivers side..I just haven't got a shot of it yet.

I've never been happy with my head sculpt of the creature...it's always been a little off from the art Tristan created. The other day, I reworked the head sculpt once more, adding a thicker, longer jaw bone, adding some meat to the cranium and shortening the winged flaps on both sides of the frontal section. I also pushed the jaw back a bot giving the creature a slight overbite.
Much happier with the look now and should be even happier once the tendons surrounding the mouth are sculpted in.
Shaped the wire for the new hand...already began the sculpt of the fingers which will be updated soon.
I've brought down another piece to the workbench...it's been awhile and hope to get some new sculpt progress made soon. #spacejockey

I still have one more version to do before I return to sculpting the limbs. I want to do a "birth" version of the head turned up which will require a redo of the cranium sculpt, including neck and shoulders.
I have a build itch that's needing to be scratched so expect a return to the Nostromo build soon.

I know it will pass but I am so ashamed to be British at the moment. Here's to working until I'm 80.
Sculpt update on "Sleeping" Ripley - Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79, 1:18 scale.
Recreating the final scene in ALIEN where Ripley begins her ill fated hypersleep aboard the Narcissus shuttle.
The figure casting has accrued some sculpting revisions - minor but needed. You may see some mild shading around the face, epoxy that was added especially for the cheekbones that had to be raised.
The figure fits into a bedding that was sculpted with AVES FIXIT and shaped before curing to fit the figure in place.
The canopy shots have been adjusted to soften the vacuumed plastic imperfections since it distorts the white resin copy of the sculpt beneath. So it's kinda like an overlay till the final figure is painted.
So this piece will go into the Narcissus Shuttle diorama I am currently building. I am working on a sleeping Jones the Cat that will be included with Ripley within the pod.
Thanks for your patience with the updates. I'm enjoying my new job and I feel I will be able to commit more time in the evenings to increase my sculpt work on the several projects you all have been following here.

Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt made entirely from Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC
I said "entirely" because it's the first figure I have created so far in which I haven't used a frame of any kind to sculpt upon. Total FIXIT with a little weight to it - makes it feel expensive LOL! I need to do a scale shot to show how it scales to my 3.75" figures in the series.
Working on completing the lower abdomen of the creature, which will connect via a ball socket to the upper torso...that comes later in the casting phase. Right now, all the parts will be connected via wire or wax clay. Haven't completed the back section of the lower abdomen yet.
Next step after finishing the lower abdomen will be the upper arms and the hips. I plan on tooling the arms with traditional shoulder joints with the hips being connected via ball sockets. This can all change as the sculpt progresses.

Sculpt progress on the Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN. I think,...well, I'm sure I'm close to having the head finished....Finally LOL! I keep going back to make adjustments but it's gotta be right or everything else will just look wrong. I have a little more adjustments and age to add onto the piece before moving to the body. The area around the neck and shoulders will be difficult as I don't have many images to go by showing detail..I plan on sculpting the body this week, along with starting some other sculpt projects. Sculpt progress on the Chestburster - Kane - Alien 1:18 (79) scale. Created a cup to sculpt down into and build up to create the exposed cavity and the distressed garment Kane is wearing at the moment of his demise. This entire section is removable. The tail of the burster has been sculpted - the remaining baby burster will be sculpted separately to fit in the cavity you see here. I have in mind to do a version that can move and push up and through the chest using a tab going through the figure and the table along with magnets. This will be a heck of a project to paint when complete. #alien #chestburster #kane

the tile is gone, as is the drywall. I had expected that this would happen. I knew that removing the drywall was unavoidable. see the note about the stud to the right of the window. :(
Some images of a test cast of the Protomorph (Xenomorph) Head sculpt and Jaw. Cast was made using smooth-on Smooth Cast 320. I resculpted the teeth of the head as I was not happy with the softness of the detail pulled from the cast. The jaw fits in nicely - more detail shots (profiles) will be shown soon. Once the dome is made, the inner mouth and tendons will be attached to complete the first master. The wall socket for the big air conditioning unit toasted itself. Made an appointment with the fixit man, ran to the hardware store for parts, and he came, replaced the wall socket, replaced the plug, and charged a pittance.

Finished the build yesterday. The final figure has better articulation than originally expected. I can actually pose the figure from a "crawl" to a "rising" position which is a plus since I originally conceived the idea of the figure being a static posed piece. An unpainted resin piece, using revoltech joints in the shoulders, elbows, wrists, upper legs, knees and ankles. Sculpt update - The Space Jockey - 1:18 scale. Bones only partially bent outward, will finish the job tonight. Got so involved with the sculpt that I forgot that I needed to produce a hole in the creatures chest DUH LOL!
