So you are cruising along at some classified depth in your nuke powered submarine when something breaks. This is your garage or fix it shop. The US Navy has a number of ships designated as Submarine Tenders. This is one such ship the Sub Tender can handle most repair or update jobs. In this pictures there are at least three subs tied up along side the Tender.

Ash - Sleep Chamber. ALIEN 79, 1:18 scale. Finishing up on the Kane sculpt for the sleep chamber diorama so I'm moving on to the next bunk buddy, Ash. Anyone notice the dead giveaway Ash was a robot during the opening sleep chamber scene?...He was perfectly prone, figures straight and rigid. Anyway, working this figure the same as Kane. Paint progress on "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 -1:18 scale. Closed mouth "lipped" version - Group shots containing the transparent dome. I painted the dome as it would be a living part of the organism, not just a cool see through cover...looking organic, not just transparent. It's living material so you'd think it would have veining, textures, and various waves of color throughout the fleshy dome. Used swirls of clear gloss mixed with earth toned colors inside the dome to give some dimension to the vacuum formed piece. Pretty cool effects when the light moves through it. Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt made entirely from Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC
I said "entirely" because it's the first figure I have created so far in which I haven't used a frame of any kind to sculpt upon. Total FIXIT with a little weight to it - makes it feel expensive LOL! I need to do a scale shot to show how it scales to my 3.75" figures in the series.
Working on completing the lower abdomen of the creature, which will connect via a ball socket to the upper torso...that comes later in the casting phase. Right now, all the parts will be connected via wire or wax clay. Haven't completed the back section of the lower abdomen yet.
Next step after finishing the lower abdomen will be the upper arms and the hips. I plan on tooling the arms with traditional shoulder joints with the hips being connected via ball sockets. This can all change as the sculpt progresses.

Paint progress on "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Thanks to some creative suggestions from many of you on how to make dripping saliva for the creature, I chose to use a dab of hot glue to create the effect you see here...very happy with the results!!!
I actually took it a bit further and coated the glue with clear gloss which will give it a little more strength. Plan to do this with the inner jaw as well! Added a scale shot (little out of focus).

Sculpt update on the Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. After a few video updates, thought I'd produce a few pictorial updates on my progress.
Phase II has begun, building and sculpting the forward section of the creature's vessel. This section will support the large "cannon" that towers over the doomed pilot (to be sculpted later).
I've also added 1/2 inch more to the base of the sculpture, as the original proportions didn't match up to the amount of space needed to produce the lower half of the sculpt below the creature's body. This was done by creating a 1/2 styrene frame, attaching it to the base and sculpting over it. Originally it was a full inch but I realized quickly it was too much and reduced accordingly. I'm happy with how it looks now, not only in its own proportions but to the scale of the 1:18 EVA figures that I'm also working on (seen in the shots).
Do I continue on or take a break? I need to take a pause and work on other projects to keep things fresh. Not that I won't work on this while taking on other builds but I need to get into those projects first and bring this back into the fold later. It's that or I keep working on this and let the other projects gather dust. Not cool with doing that.

Sculpting week off to a great start! Lambert in flight vest - 1:18 scale, ALIEN 79. For the exception of the belt and some minor details, this sculpt is complete. Sculpted the vest last night using Aves FIXIT sculpt. Variants include Lamber in Nostromo T and Lambert in Nostromo Jacket (as seen near the end of the film). Build update on the Command Console Chair for the MU/TH/UR 6000 chamber - Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. I already had some chairs made for other parts of the ship so I just whittled down a copy using a dremel and began sculpting new upholstry to the seat using Aves FIXIT sculpt. Completed Jedi Master Luke Skywalker as seen in issue #3 of Star Wars Invasion by Dark Horse Comics. Luke is in command of Republic forces sent to the planet Rychel in order to repel the invading forces of the Yuuzhan Vong.
The figure was mostly sculpted in Aves Epoxy FIXIT sculpt using a plastic articulated armature. The forearms and hands have been recasted from original parts. The head originalted from a Legacy Snowspeeder Luke figure, casted in wax and completly retooled and refined adding additional markings to the face, age lines, a lower brow, hair and ears...I also strengthened the jaw. The figure measures 3.75" in height. Painted using Floyquil Acrylics by testors.
THRILLING isn't the word to describe what I'm feeling right now after receiving these pictures from Jean-Pierre Jeunet this morning of my Newborn (Alien: Resurrection) head sculpt on display along with various other miniatures made by fellow artists, Kazuhito Kimura, Dominique Roche and the director himself, Jean-Pierre Jeunet!
So happy and thankful once again for the opportunity to contribute to a beautiful display full of brilliant work. I'm honored to be part of it!

Got so involved with the sculpt that I forgot that I needed to produce a hole in the creatures chest DUH LOL! Sculpt progress on "The Alien" as seen in the Creative Assembly game release, Alien: Isolation. 1:18 scale. Using cast parts from my existing beast (alien 79) I am modifying the articulation, parts of the sculpt and will be creating new lower legs for the creature. The legs will not be as articulated as the former Big Chap but I'm not bothered by it. The head is also in the midst of some slight modification and I have created a ball socket in the neck to allow the head to lay farther back as it's form resembles more of a crouched, "dinosaur-like" creature than that of it's cousin. Here is what a painted head cast of the Fifield Monster (Prometheus - 1:18 scale) looks like straight out of the mold after casting the Smooth-On Crystal Clear 3000 membrane around it. Very rough and will need some TLC once the casting material cures completely (still has several hours to harden). Sculpt update on The Queen - Aliens (86) - and the Egg Morpher - Aliens: Defiance - Dark Horse Comics. Both 1:18 scale.
The Queen
Completed the rough sculpt of the lower mandible and teeth. The lower mandible is a skeletal sculpt for the moment while I adjust and refine the teeth. After the lower teeth are complete, flesh detail will be added to the mandible.
The teeth are being sculpted on a separate pallet, so when completed can have a mold made and cast in clear resin. The teeth are individually sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two-part epoxy from Aves Studio LLC. Once cured, I've begun refining each using dental tools and fine-grit sandpaper. Hope to have them at a full shine similar to the top set of teeth soon.
I still have to sculpt the gum line for the lower teeth and the pallet will eventually be set deeper into the lower mandible than what you see here. Many adjustments will be made after castings are made. Then additional casts will be made.
Do the top and bottom teeth line up? Close but not really - not too concerned with that since my sculpt will feature multiple head sculpts and not a jointed jaw. So perfect alignment isn't a priority here...although I will do my best to get it as close as possible before making molds.
The Egg Morpher
Began filling the detail to the back "pipes" of the beast. I've also begun the sculpt of the creature's hands which will be very similar to the Giger Alien hands but larger. The rough sculpt right now resemble Bugs Bunny gloves and not that of the nightmarish xenomorph but no worries, that will all change....just how I work.

Build progress on the Autodoc Medical station - Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Completed the frame that supports the revolving bed - Two cylinders, one inside the other, made from sheet styrene. The bed mounts to the inner cylinder which glides across a fitted groove cut out from the outer cylinder. This will allow the bed to slide into the "MRI" chamber. When the bed is set out, a clear rod can be attached underneath to offer a touch more stability for display purposes. Next step is to build out the tower and finished detail to the bed. So after the inevitable cutting and resizing of the torso that almost made my work go viral for all the wrong reasons (I was briefly a cake designer on reddit it seems), it is once again whole and at this stage, complete.
Check out the comparison shot, before and after - the difference in length was a half an inch.
Along with the sculpt work that replaced that which was reduced and adjusted during the resize, I made sculpt changes to the creature's cranium, completed the detail behind the head and neck of the doomed pilot and reworked the sculpt of the hands to appear more bony and less fleshed out. I actually still have a bot of dremeling to do to the hands...and a moment ago I said this was complete (rolls eyes) LOL!
Next step, taking a break so I can get back to work on other projects. That being said, I know how I am and when there's a step needing to be done it will drive me crazy till it's complete so don't expect this project to be tabled anytime soon. BUT...believe I have the luxury of multitasking now LOL! Thinking about building up the remaining front of the chair, where the "canon" will sit. I'll have a better explanation in the update video that will follow up next week.

Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Worked on the remaining frame work for the wall panels. Finished both yesterday and began adding detailing....which is going to take some time. Using a mix of styrene, Epoxy and various misc items (greeblies) to build out the details. I've decided to begin building back into the shuttles main entrance first before moving into the pilot stations...for the exception of the wall panel with all the piping rolling around. I really want to do that wall! HA! Usually the first attempt at a new alien dome would require at least one adjustment so that the dome "snaps" into place....This time though, success straight from the gate!!! This dome snaps perfectly onto the alien head and hugs the contours just underneath.
Images you see here are of both the master sculpt and initial cast with domes attached. I increase the tones in the images so you can see the shell of the clear dome.

Material used - Aves FIXIT Sculpt from Aves Clay
Completed the sculpt of the "control sticks" for each hand, "the interface" and detail along the back of the pilot's chair. I want to tackle the upper rear of the pilot chair before moving onto another project. Been a couple additional weeks than I planned to work on this piece but I'm "in the zone" so to speak and want to continue while not suffering a loss of interest. I'm doing this in my own time and not for a client so I have that luxury.
Crazy to think I look at this piece as becoming an "action figure accessory" or some part of a 1:18 scaled play set. It's where my mindset is...always has been since this ALIEN 79 project started. It just so happens that it's a sculpture study at the same time LOL!
I've taken care to be as accurate as possible to the Giger production version of the doomed pilot but I'm sure a few spots have emerged as "best interpretation" at this point. I'm not looking to be 100% spot on. I don't think anyone who has taken on this project has. I hope those of you who are die hard Space Jockey fans will be forgiving.
Build update on the Nostromo Sleep Chamber / Crew Sculpts. ALIEN 1979. 1:18 scale. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT. A scratch built diorama work in progress.
Next up for the sleeping crew are Lambert and Dallas. Both are static sculpts, non-articulated. I haven't added the monitoring pads yet and there are a couple minor details that need to be added but all in all they are complete.
Sculpted the bedding for each figurine so they fit securely into place.
Next up is Ripley and Jonesy - Even though it's not officially seen in the film, I believe the cat was included in Ripley's sleep chamber as it was in the Narcissus at the end of the film.
I'm using resin casts from my Narcissus Ripley sculpt to build not only the Nostromo Sleep Chamber version of Ellen Ripley but also the Narcissus version and another of her daughter, Amanda Ripley from Alien: Isolation.

Sculpted hips and began working the upper arms.
Realized I need to thin out the lower back a bit and complete some detail just behind the shoulders before I can replicate (mold/cast) and head on to the next stage. Loving the elongated arms of this beast....
At this point with the project, I have pretty much caught up to the point where I left off with the Covenant Xenomorph, Neomorph and Defiance Praetorian - arms and legs. So expect a variety of updates, not JUST the Newborn from this point forward.

The sleeping giant - Engineer in Sleep Chamber - Prometheus 1:18 scale. - So I took the cast of the Engineer I created earlier last week, and shaped it using a hot gun to give the body the appearance it was at rest. The head sculpt of the masked giant is complete and has been cast and attached to the body. Next step are the tubes leading from the chamber to the Engineer as well as the tubes leading from the exterior rear of the chamber. The tubes for the Engineer will be borrowed while the exterior tubes will be sculpted and cast in rubber. #Prometheus #sleepchamber #engineer
Build progress of the Nostromo - 1:18 scale ALIEN. The Observation Blister - I received the laser cut pieces I designed last week. Assembled the arch to the observation portal and sculpted the arc frame using Aves FIXIT. Will do the same to the opposite, exterior side and add the interior ribbing using styrene. Build update to the AutoDoc medical station-NOSTROMO-ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began building up the central section of the room, Completed the monitor suite above the bed as well as the surgical tool locker. I'm thinking of using a sticker/decal for the tools instead of cutting then out piece by piece. Began working on the overhead which needs some revisions after realizing it's too wide and the front isn't supposed to be curved if only slightly. Sorry for the painters tape in the shot but it's necessary to get the feel for what I'm doing. Sculpt update on "Sleeping Ripley" - Narcissus - ALIEN 79 1:18 scale.
How about it! A sculpt of Ripley all covered up! LOL! Got a lot of grief after my last update if you can believe it. Must be doing something right then. LOL! This is a separate sculpt by the way...another update of "topless" Ripley is coming soon.
Seriously now, this sculpt is of Ripley featuring the bedgown she wore at the end of the film where she tucks herself in for the unexpectedly extended sleep.
Made some changes to the hair, sculpted the gown and sculpted the hands in the correct position which will help me build up the arms accurately to complete the piece.
Next up is finishing a sleeping Jonesy (cat) and fitting her into the Narcissus sleep chamber.

Sculpt update on the Alien Queen - ALIENS - 1:18 scale.
Sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt from Aves Studio.
I'm close to completing the mouth of the Alien Queen - finished sculpting the lower gum line around the teeth of the lower jaw. Also started to flesh out the lower jaw a bit but have much more detailing to add before it's considered complete.
Both the top and lower set of teeth have been sculpted separate and will be cast eventually using a semi-clear resin..or crystal clear, and painted afterward.
This coming week I want to complete the teeth and lower jaw and set up the components to the head for molding and casting. From there we go to the neck as well as the Queen's inner jaw.

Sculpt update on The Newborn. Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale.

Got some patching to do then each of these will have molds made.
I still have one more version to do before I return to sculpting the limbs. I want to do a "birth" version of the head turned up which will require a redo of the cranium sculpt, including neck and shoulders.
I have a build itch that's needing to be scratched so expect a return to the Nostromo build soon.
Had a muscle injury to deal with that put me out over the past week or so but back at it! More to come!!!
