Build update on the AutoDoc medical station - Nostromo - ALIEN 79. Working on the overhead section of the med tower - Figuring the light portal locations along with the small compartments tucked just underneath. I scrapped the initial overhead as it was too wide - it should be roughly the same width as the medical bed (perhaps a little wider). Hope to get the overhead done this week, see Covenant and begin new sculpts next week. :) ...so much more to come
OH and good news to those that may care, I've decided to get the tool box detail laser cut instead of using decals!!! .#alien #aliencovenant #nostromo #autodoc #diorama #scratchbuild #modelmaking
Sculpt progress on the Space Jockey - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Prepping to begin sculpting the rib cage and the back sides of the creature and it's chair. Yep, thanks a mini me version sporting a Weyland science uniform. Also a work in progress (as like real life). smile emoticon I like to put a little bit of myself into the action. #spacejockey #alien #diorama #sculpture #avesfixitsculpt #lv426 #derelict #hrgiger
Quick Sunday update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 Chamber - completed the sculpt to the overhead section of the entrance way using Aves FIXIT. It's a solid block...was thinking of building a styrene frame to sculpt over but I had some older FIXIT I had to use up so what the heck...it worked out just fine. Still have padding to complete - hope to get an hour or so to complete that tonight. Threw the chair (still a work in progress) in there for the second shot. I featured as an outtake in Day 4 (Part 1) a shot of my father-in-law against the sunrise. It was a good shot of him, one that I was proud of - to a certain point. It had a lovely backdrop in the colourful sunrise but I also mentioned that I felt it was lacking in a number of ways. I'd been mulling over in my mind how to improve on it and when Dad suggested I come in again early on Friday morning I was determined to try it again. As ever, a confluence of events and influences came together to create this shot.
The day before I'd been annoyed at myself at getting engrossed in shooting and missing the opportunity to capture the crew (both of Dad's engine and the other), what I needed was an ambush point, a pre-arranged station where I could be confident of getting a good shot without holding them up. The biggest problem I'd identified with the previous day's shot was the lack of context - I wanted it to scream railway - and yet I wanted it to be clean and not full of distraction. On my American road-trip, Jeff had used a technique which I had long wanted to replicate. He positioned me on a long straight section of the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway and used his rented 85mm f/1.2 lens on his full-frame 5D to give super short depth of field and used an umbrella'd flash on a light stand to really make me 'pop' off the background. The rails seemed an obvious parallel and with no colour in the morning sunrise I was freed from the limitation of 'having' to use it - which actually helped out. I had a tripod for the camera, but I had to be the light stand - fortunately I had my remote. I did a quick couple of setup shots and then asked one of the guys to stand in place.
As I accosted him he put down the plastic bucket he was using and stood where I indicated, looked at the camera and bang, I took the shot. He scurried off to return to his task and as I reviewed the result it became painfully obvious that I should have asked him to keep hold of the bucket - he needed something to do with his hands. I cast around for nearby 'props' and the germ of this idea leapt into mind. The "Not to be moved" sign is another of those safety measures to protect the crew, but the same words go rather well with the 'strong-minded' character of our beloved driver Ian. When he passed by I asked him to stand in place and handed him the sign. "You can't move that" he said. I told him not to worry and that I'd personally make sure no-one moved the engine in the few minutes it was not in place. I told him to look 'unimpressed' - an easy task - and fired the remote.
I've bumped clarity, vibrance and saturation in Lightroom - but otherwise this is SOOC. I'm so pleased with it. It works on a number of levels and I'm very proud of the result.

I sense from the dearth of comments yesterday, you are tiring of train shots. Well, this is the last and I'll give posting a break for a while. But to finish off, here's a few more from the final day. I say a few. There's nine. All clickable though.
The original kitchen was a mess: inaccessible and unuseable countertop areas, no dining area, very little prep space, dark and without nearly enough storage.
The new kitchen triples the usable countertop area, doubles storage, brightens the room up substantially and makes it seem far larger - without moving any walls. We needed a modern cook's kitchen without having it clash with the rest of the house, and I think we succeeded.
The green hanging glass light fixture comes from Bruck Lighting; the beautiful green glass mosaic tile from Hakatai up in Ashland, Oregon; the enormous, apron-front stainless sink - big enough to bathe a small child in - from Lavello Sinks. The cabinet hardware is from House of Antique Hardware (the cabinet pulls are actually winow sash lifts, mounted sideways), and the faucet is from Delta. The cabinets are an inexpensive model from KraftMaid and the stone is from a local fabricator and installer. The floors are a solid-plank bamboo, and the color matches the original oak hardwood in the rest of the house.
The green motif matches Jineui's large collection of Jadeite plates, cups and bowls, some of which might be visible in certain photos.

Nostromo Wall Panel/Corridor Portal - ALIEN79 - 1:18 scale. The plan is this....I was able to scale a line drawing of the panel wall I found on the RPF forums. I plan to trace the piped pattern using rolled Aves FIXIT sculpt - one strand at a time. Will take awhile but the outcome will be worth it....especially once molds and casts have been made. #nostromo #alien #corridor #avesfixit #sculpting
Build update on the Nostromo Sleep Chamber / Crew Sculpts. ALIEN 1979. 1:18 scale. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT. A scratch built diorama work in progress.
Next up for the sleeping crew are Lambert and Dallas. Both are static sculpts, non-articulated. I haven't added the monitoring pads yet and there are a couple minor details that need to be added but all in all they are complete.
Sculpted the bedding for each figurine so they fit securely into place.
Next up is Ripley and Jonesy - Even though it's not officially seen in the film, I believe the cat was included in Ripley's sleep chamber as it was in the Narcissus at the end of the film.
I'm using resin casts from my Narcissus Ripley sculpt to build not only the Nostromo Sleep Chamber version of Ellen Ripley but also the Narcissus version and another of her daughter, Amanda Ripley from Alien: Isolation.
Hope you enjoy the update! More to come! #alien #nostromo #narcissus #miniature #alienisolation #sculpting #diorama #sleepchamber #scratchbuild
Paint progress on the Newborn - 1:18 scale - Alien: Resurrection. Musée Miniature et Cinéma piece for director Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the CARO / JEUNET expo.
Working on the first couple layers of the face, eyes, mouth. Very fleshy at this stage - want to highlight it out a bit with some aged whites or even lighter tans with a hint of greens running through it. Will begin moving toward the back of the head and neck over the next day or so.
Difficult for me to work on this piece all in one day due to my work and home schedule so I'm doing the best I can- Living for a quiet weekend. To have more time to paint this and much more.
Hope you enjoy the works in progress... #aliens #alien #newborn #painting #sculpture #customactionfigure #miniature #caro_jeunet
Sculpt progress on Lambert. ALIEN 1979 - 1:18 scale. Added additional detail to the pants and sleeves to the shirt. For her Nostromo suit I added a helmetless collar which is removable and additional details to the suit itself. Back to her basic uniform...Need to sculpt the vest. Was contemplating on having a magnetized two piece vest but decided against it. I have two other versions of Lambert's upper torso planned. All a work in progress....#alien #nostromo #lambert
Sculpt update on the Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. Continuing the progression to the back of the Jockey chair. Detailing added with additional weathering to come. I'm going to pause on working the back and begin moving to the torso of the creature....so the head is about to become a permanent fixture to the piece where currently its been a separate piece held in place by a metal rod. #alien #spacejockey #hrgiger #giger #derelict #diorama #sculpture
Build update to the MU/TH/UR 6000 chamber or "Mother" to the Nostromo crew - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale scratch build. Frame is primarily complete, with some additional structural pieces to be added, I'm ready to begin detail...panel by panel, square by tiny square. Also need some sculpting details to the portal. Talk about a test of patience.....oh well, I made this bed so I might as well sleep in it! LOL! - I'm actually going to begin work on the chair first, then a few panels...the I'm back at working on figures...I got some new ideas I will be sharing shortly as well as returning to some other, unfinished pieces that require my attention. Need to shuffle the deck every once in awhile. #alien #nostromo #MUTHUR6000 #diorama #scratchbuild #aliens #weylandyutani

Build status on the Protomorph (Xeno) - Alien: Covenant - 1:18 scale. Textured the acrylic dome using rough to fine sanding pads. When painted, this will give the dome an organic look. Build progress on the Autodoc Medical station - Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Completed the frame that supports the revolving bed - Two cylinders, one inside the other, made from sheet styrene. The bed mounts to the inner cylinder which glides across a fitted groove cut out from the outer cylinder. This will allow the bed to slide into the "MRI" chamber. When the bed is set out, a clear rod can be attached underneath to offer a touch more stability for display purposes. Next step is to build out the tower and finished detail to the bed. Ash and Kane are 1:18 scaled sculpts in progress. #alien #nostromo #autodoc #aliencovenant #ashisarobot #kane #diorama

Sculpt update on various projects...
- 1:18 scale Newborn from Alien: Resurrection
- 1:18 scale Egg Layer Xenomorph from Aliens: Defiance
- 1:18 scale "The Beast" from ALIEN (79)
and a couple more images from the 1:18 scale Sleep Chamber (NOSTROMO) project.
For the Newborn and the Egg Layer Xenomorph, it's all about hands. I've created the frames for the hands I will be sculpting this week. For the Egg Layer Xeno, I want to sculpt a "neutral" hand which is nothing more than an enlarged version of the original ALIEN 79 hand so that will be fun.
For the ALIEN 79 "Beast"...I am happy with what I have done with the figure but I see where improvements can be made. The head sculpt has never been 100% for me...and I think with a little tweaking I can get it there. I'm also thickening the lower abdomen sculpt as its proportion to the upper rib cage is a tad overblown. I'll post a separate update to explain all that later.
Finally, I wanted to shoot a couple more images of Parker from the Sleep Chamber build just to get a couple more shots of that hand before I sculpt over it with another one. LOL!..and I shot another image of Ripley because it was just there. LOL! This was the shot Ridley wanted but the production company thought nudity (although logical in this circumstance) would limit the number of people that would see the film so he chose the alternative (the ridiculous bands across the chest) that didn't see the light of day anyway! LOL!
OK! See? I'm still kickin' out updates! LOL! I hope you all are safe and doing as well as you can with the current state of things. Hope my little updates can break up some of the monotony out there.
Thanks for looking! More to come!

Sculpt progress on the 1:18 scaled Space Jockey - ALIEN 1979.
Sculpt material used - Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Clay
So I'm only a couple of hours sculpt time to completing the back on the Space Jockey! I am currently working on the piping that is located behind the head of the creature.
Completed the sculpt to the other side and I'm happy with how it all balanced out. Took a couple of adjustments which meant sanding down a cured area and sculpting over but that's the name of the game when working with epoxy. Glad that's over with! :)
When the back is done, I plan to begin working on the front of the Jockey, where the eventual "cannon" will connect. I will take a break however and work on other projects that need attention (including some alien work).
I hope you all enjoy the updated images and for all you Alien fans out there, I hope you had a GREAT ALIEN DAY!

Decided to move forward with one of the Kane variants I want to create - the Facehugger attack version. ALIEN 1979 - 1:18 scale. This version will be of Kane in the Autodoc having the helmet cut away revealing the facehugger for the first time. I took one of the helmets I have on hand and cutting it down the middle carefully using an xacto knife....then adding magnets so that both parts can be brought back together and finally distressing the helmet to resemble acid burn and heat from the laser cut. Used a small lighter to melt away the helmet section and coasted the inside of the clear dome with super glue then padding with cloth to get the weatherized ruin of the interior. Will hold off on paint work till the figure is complete. A work in progress....#alien #nostromo #kane #facehugger #sith_fire30
Working to finish an alternate head sculpt to "The Beast" - ALIEN (79). 1:18 scale. The inner mouth or "tongue" can extend and retract manually. Sculpt update on the NEWBORN - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt using Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC
Sculpted hips and began working the upper arms.
Realized I need to thin out the lower back a bit and complete some detail just behind the shoulders before I can replicate (mold/cast) and head on to the next stage. Loving the elongated arms of this beast....
At this point with the project, I have pretty much caught up to the point where I left off with the Covenant Xenomorph, Neomorph and Defiance Praetorian - arms and legs. So expect a variety of updates, not JUST the Newborn from this point forward.
More updates to come! Perhaps some Star Wars updates soon? Bringing some back to the workbench. #alien #alienresurrection #newborn #ripley8 #studioadi #sculpture #avesfixit #avesstudio studioADI
Sculpt update on The Queen - (Aliens 86) and the Egg Morpher (Aliens: Defiance). All 1:18 scale, sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.
Began sculpting the lower jaw of the Queen. Started with a rough sculpt of the jaw, eyeballing the proportion and adding addition girth to the sculpt that once cured can be reduced through carving and sanding.
You can see my progression via the images attached. The next step will be to add a separate gumline that will include a set of lower teeth. Again, separate from the jaw so I can cast the piece in clear resin when it's time for replication.
The "neck" of the queen will need to be reworked once the master casts have been made. I'm using the smaller Revoltech Queen figure as an articulation reference for much of the articulation points for my sculpt.
For the Eggmorpher from Defiance, I've been sculpting the details to the back of the creature including the "pipes" as I like to call them as well as the separate spinal piece that emerges just below the back of the neck.
Next challenge for this sculpt will be the hands and the upper legs.
I've got a ton of pieces to mold and cast. And since just getting over a bad illness and this hurricane scare, it put me off a couple weeks. Sorry about that. I will always try for sure to get one update a week...don't want anyone to think I've fallen off LOL!
Hope you enjoyed the update! Always, more to come!

Okay, the day I dreaded has arrived. I've been tagged. This is me. There should be a law requiring photographers to stay behind the camera. Yes, I'm smiling. No, I'm not trying to look mean. No, I didn't touch a thing in PS. I know, my collar is crooked. Yes, I'm posting this on a Sunday evening, hoping the stampede of frightened flickr-ites won't be too great. Tagged by my pal, wanderingbub72.
1. I'm from a big family. My Mom had only one brother and no sisters. Mom had 11 children, my Uncle had 12. I'm the youngest son. It was a curse being the youngest son back then. Still is.
2. I grew up in the Sixties. Flower power, Haight-Ashbury, The Momma's and The Papa's, and all that. I still like to burn incense.
3. I'm a good cook. That's why I'm fat. 'nuff said.
4. I've never had a car accident. I have been in a car accident as a passenger. I did get a ticket once, for running a red light.
5. I can sew. I used to be a production manager for a garment manufacturing company.
6. I've worked as a telephone line technician, cheese maker, sewing machine operator, graphic artist (by hand and by software), inventory clerk, computer/networking technician. I have used Photoshop since version 5, perhaps 10-12 years and professionally.
7. I've always liked creating artwork (nearly all kinds of media) and photography since I was very young. I started with a Kodak Brownie (620 film). My first 35mm SLR was a Mamiya ZE.
8. I work on my own car, as long as it doesn't involve rebuilding an engine or transmission. Anything else I can do. I can fix just about anything. Mr. Fixit. I used to buy non-working SLR cameras, repair them and resell them.
9. I love animals of all kinds, but have no pets. It's much nicer to play with my friends cats and dogs and let them take care of them. Ditto for children.

Sculpt update on the Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. After a few video updates, thought I'd produce a few pictorial updates on my progress.
Phase II has begun, building and sculpting the forward section of the creature's vessel. This section will support the large "cannon" that towers over the doomed pilot (to be sculpted later).
I've also added 1/2 inch more to the base of the sculpture, as the original proportions didn't match up to the amount of space needed to produce the lower half of the sculpt below the creature's body. This was done by creating a 1/2 styrene frame, attaching it to the base and sculpting over it. Originally it was a full inch but I realized quickly it was too much and reduced accordingly. I'm happy with how it looks now, not only in its own proportions but to the scale of the 1:18 EVA figures that I'm also working on (seen in the shots).
Do I continue on or take a break? I need to take a pause and work on other projects to keep things fresh. Not that I won't work on this while taking on other builds but I need to get into those projects first and bring this back into the fold later. It's that or I keep working on this and let the other projects gather dust. Not cool with doing that.
Hope you enjoy the video updates I've posted recently. You can find them all in one place on my youtube page that I'm slowly populating.

Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Worked on the remaining frame work for the wall panels. Finished both yesterday and began adding detailing....which is going to take some time. Using a mix of styrene, Epoxy and various misc items (greeblies) to build out the details. I've decided to begin building back into the shuttles main entrance first before moving into the pilot stations...for the exception of the wall panel with all the piping rolling around. I really want to do that wall! HA! So the storage compartments will be separate sections and the airlock will be a separate section..the only way I can build this will be to keep it modular. #alien #narcissus #shuttle #diorama #stowaway #bigchap #luckystar #scratchbuilding #modelbuilding

Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt made entirely from Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC
I said "entirely" because it's the first figure I have created so far in which I haven't used a frame of any kind to sculpt upon. Total FIXIT with a little weight to it - makes it feel expensive LOL! I need to do a scale shot to show how it scales to my 3.75" figures in the series.
Working on completing the lower abdomen of the creature, which will connect via a ball socket to the upper torso...that comes later in the casting phase. Right now, all the parts will be connected via wire or wax clay. Haven't completed the back section of the lower abdomen yet.
Next step after finishing the lower abdomen will be the upper arms and the hips. I plan on tooling the arms with traditional shoulder joints with the hips being connected via ball sockets. This can all change as the sculpt progresses.

The many faces of the "butterfly".
Got some patching to do then each of these will have molds made.
I still have one more version to do before I return to sculpting the limbs. I want to do a "birth" version of the head turned up which will require a redo of the cranium sculpt, including neck and shoulders.
I have a build itch that's needing to be scratched so expect a return to the Nostromo build soon.
Had a muscle injury to deal with that put me out over the past week or so but back at it! More to come!!!
