Build progress of the Nostromo - 1:18 scale ALIEN. The Observation Blister - I received the laser cut pieces I designed last week. Assembled the arch to the observation portal and sculpted the arc frame using Aves FIXIT. Will do the same to the opposite, exterior side and add the interior ribbing using styrene. Purchased stainless steel rods (.25") which will be the track for the mobile observation chair that will roll on the rails from the blister to the control console. #alien #ash #observation #nostromo #robot #sith_fire30
My Dad, Del Lawton. His nickname is Tinker Del (or Mr. Fixit) because he can't NOT tinker with things. He has more tools than I've ever seen and I wanted to grab a portrait of him amongst his organized chaos of a garage. And yes, as you can see, he is a sandals n' socks guy.
Strobist info: AlienBee AB800 with only reflector camera left aimed at subject. Triggered with Phottix Strato II's
View from the front of the camera. That bumper on the right doesn't look great either, but is feels solid for now at least.
Still can't believe I've taken on this project and am thrilled at the progress so far smile emoticon - The problem, I'm running out of FIXIT!!! Gonna have to place a reorder soon! #spacejockey #alien #sculpture #hrgiger #avesstudio #avesfixit
Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt using Aves FIXIT Sculpt from Aves Studio LLC.
Looks kind like a bust doesn't it...not a bad idea. Still, it's only the buildup of the upper torso. I will be sculpting detail once a needled it down a bit more. Then will come the lower abdomen, arms. legs etc.
The upper torso and head will be one piece. Just don't have the tech available to create an articulated neck that works with this sculpt. If anything it would have been a rubber sheath that would drape over and articulated frame.
Different expressions are also in the works. Sculpting tails for the other xenos at this time and a tongue for this beast.
More to come!!! #alien #alienresurrection #newborn #ripley8 #clone #sculpture #miniature #avesfixitsculpt #avesstudio
The new tub, tile and cabinet are beginning to look good (at least at a distance). There are a lot of small glitches that have to be fixed. The job site supervisor (a misnomer, as she was on site only rarely at this stage) kept minimizing the issues until we put up 12 post-it notes with problems for her to look at. You might note a substantial time gap between this slide (April 8) and the subsequent slide (May 1). The company brought in their A-Team, real problem solvers, who decided the only thing they could do was tear out all the wall tile, trim, cabinet / vanity, and closet, and start almost from scratch. They said they would fix it and they were true to their word.
You might want to look at the original image to see the problems up close.
This is slide 11. Go to slide 12.
If you take from nature, please give something back.
Yes, I know these are roses :) It is that big white blob of bokeh that is bugging me...
Have a great day my friends and thank you for your visits!
From the Dark Horse comic series Knights of the Old Republic, written by John Jackson Miller, comes my completed Zayne Carrick as he appeared in part four of Commencement.
Big, heavy and well worn, Zayne's suit has been sculpted and painted to appears to be a mix of woven material, leather and a lightweight metal alloy which includes a working removable helmet and PlSS (Primary Life-Support Subsystem) backpack.
Figure sculpt update for 3/18/22 -
Migraines took me out periodically over the the past couple weeks...those of you that suffer them know what I'm talking about. Unfortunate reason for the delay but feeling much better now
Update of Jedi Dass Jennir from the Dark Horse Comics series Dark Times (Out of the Wilderness arc). I finished sculpting the hair, arms, chest and back. Next comes the details to the belt and his holster. I have to sculpt it in such a way where articulation won't be hindered when positioning him on his steed. I'd rather the figure not be built on a parts swapping gimmick but worse case scenario, I sculpt a second lower body of his legs in a static sitting position and forget about it. It's more work but it's a personal project so why not? We'll see.
Next up is progress made on the bounty hunter Falco Sang from the same series. I finished sculpting his upper body along with detailing to the front and back of his chest harness/gun holster. The actual holsters themselves are being sculpted separately and will be attached in such a way as not to impede on the arm articulation. I have a couple ideas on how to accomplish that. Also working on custom weapons seen in the comic using some Marauder GR weapons I purchased a few years back along with some various Star Wars themed weapondry.
Finally sculpt progress made on the Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell, Skorr. This character comes from the classic Marvel comics strip of the same title. Body sculpt build is complete, and I’ve started sculpting the boots which will be shown in a future update. Starting from the bottom, up and will add some additional articulation as I go forward. The frame was originally a Boss Fight Studio Spartan and has worked very well for this build so far.
That’s it for now! As of this update, I was able to get some additional sculpt work completed so I’m shooting those updates now and will have that up soon. Just didn’t want too much time to go by without an update.
Hope you enjoy and thanks again for your continued interest and support for my work. ❤

Nostromo Main Air Lock - 1:18 scale UPDATE. ALIEN (1979). Spent some time creating the interior wall racking using butyrate tubing. Took some time to get the hang of it and I may still want to go back and redo a couple because of irregularities but all in all they turned out pretty nice for it being my first time using the tube material. Next up for this project will be the finer detail to the interior walls as well as the ceiling build. I've attached some updated images of my progress. #alien #nostromo #airlock
Sculpt progress on the "Egg Morpher" Xenomorph - Alien: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale.
Another set of images showing progression. The last image is the latest (late last night). Sculpting with Aves FIXIT.
Two things I plan to change - the ribbing just below the carapace needs to be thinned out, and the vertebral segments at the back of the head needs to have a higher arc.
The creature is unexplained..which is intriguing to me because I don't need to know a reason for it's existence. It's depiction in the comic is something out of nightmares (read the comic series, you'll understand).More to come! #alien #aliens #nostromo #darkhorsecomics #xenomorph #eggmorphing #sculpting #customactionfigure #miniature #avesstudio
I spent some time last night and sculpted little round spigots knobs out of FIXIT. Simply pressed little balls of the epoxy onto a scrap sheet of styrene and sculpted away. Later after curing I slightly bent the styrene to pop them off the surface then took some sandpaper to clean them up. Not industrially precise but honestly have you seen these knobs close up? Some look like they were hand cast in iron - very irregular in some spots. Still need some sanding but very happy how they turned out. ALIEN 1:18 scale.
Sculpt update on the Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN (79).

Completed the sculpt of the "control sticks" for each hand, "the interface" and detail along the back of the pilot's chair. I want to tackle the upper rear of the pilot chair before moving onto another project. Been a couple additional weeks than I planned to work on this piece but I'm "in the zone" so to speak and want to continue while not suffering a loss of interest. I'm doing this in my own time and not for a client so I have that luxury.
Crazy to think I look at this piece as becoming an "action figure accessory" or some part of a 1:18 scaled play set. It's where my mindset is...always has been since this ALIEN 79 project started. It just so happens that it's a sculpture study at the same time LOL!
I've taken care to be as accurate as possible to the Giger production version of the doomed pilot but I'm sure a few spots have emerged as "best interpretation" at this point. I'm not looking to be 100% spot on. I don't think anyone who has taken on this project has. I hope those of you who are die hard Space Jockey fans will be forgiving.
Usually the first attempt at a new alien dome would require at least one adjustment so that the dome "snaps" into place....This time though, success straight from the gate!!! This dome snaps perfectly onto the alien head and hugs the contours just underneath.
Images you see here are of both the master sculpt and initial cast with domes attached. I increase the tones in the images so you can see the shell of the clear dome.
More images to come as I continue with the inner jaw and tendons - am thrilled this step in the vac forming was the only step needed. :) #alien #aliencovenant #protomorph #xenomorph #vacuumforming #PETG #dome #sculpting #success
Nostromo Wall Panel/Corridor Portal - ALIEN79 - 1:18 scale. The plan is this....I was able to scale a line drawing of the panel wall I found on the RPF forums. I plan to trace the piped pattern using rolled Aves FIXIT sculpt - one strand at a time. Will take awhile but the outcome will be worth it....especially once molds and casts have been made. #nostromo #alien #corridor #avesfixit #sculpting
Sculpt progress on the 1:18 scaled Space Jockey - ALIEN 1979.
Sculpt material used - Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Clay
So I'm only a couple of hours sculpt time to completing the back on the Space Jockey! I am currently working on the piping that is located behind the head of the creature.
Completed the sculpt to the other side and I'm happy with how it all balanced out. Took a couple of adjustments which meant sanding down a cured area and sculpting over but that's the name of the game when working with epoxy. Glad that's over with! :)
When the back is done, I plan to begin working on the front of the Jockey, where the eventual "cannon" will connect. I will take a break however and work on other projects that need attention (including some alien work).
I hope you all enjoy the updated images and for all you Alien fans out there, I hope you had a GREAT ALIEN DAY!

Build status of the Autodoc - Medical station on board the Nostromo. ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Building up the center tower to the tri-monitor suite, then the overhead. Starting to finally fill out a bit! Walls will come later. Need to detail out the bed a bit more (which is removable at this point) along with the head and foot rests. Build using sheet styrene. #alien #nostromo #aliencovenant #kane #facehugger #chestburster #diorama #scratchbuilding Alien Alien: Covenant News The Nostromo Unplugged
Started to sculpt the centerpiece to the Nostromo sleep chamber, bringing all seven separate chambers together. ALIEN 1979 - 1:18 scale. I considered creating the center station entirely out of sheet styrene but decided a combination of clay, cast and styrene will work best. First step will be to sculpt the body of the centerpiece...minimal detail at best. Second will be to mold and cast the finished sculpt, cast and refine shape. Next I'll add detail with sheet styrene and other greeblie work needed and finally mold and cast the finished piece, bring the pods back together and mend gaps using epoxy making the connections seamless. #alien #sleepchamber #nostromo #sith_fire30

I did some casting to build a couple of corridor walls for deck A of the Nostromo. These two corridor walls are full resin casts and are about 90% complete in build - need to add a control panel or two as well as a few additional tubes/wire. Everything you see in these images are cast pieces from molds that came from scratch builds (for exception of the Parker and Brett figures). I'm very close to completing all corridors leading from the galley of the ship. All I need to do it create the flooring....which means some laser work is about to go out soon. #alien #nostromo #sith_fire30
the dancers looked like they had a good time and they got a lot of fried food for it. and money. i hope.
H2 was fun to create! The droid was once an R2-D2 figure, with heavy modifications to the sides, head, legs (removed) and undercarriage. The wings are made from styrene and epoxy with a small plastic tube threaded through the main body to either side. The head and wings have a full range of rotation. The clear stand was once that from a microman figure - works perfectly with H2.
Build update to the AutoDoc medical station-NOSTROMO-ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began building up the central section of the room, Completed the monitor suite above the bed as well as the surgical tool locker. I'm thinking of using a sticker/decal for the tools instead of cutting then out piece by piece. Began working on the overhead which needs some revisions after realizing it's too wide and the front isn't supposed to be curved if only slightly. Sorry for the painters tape in the shot but it's necessary to get the feel for what I'm doing. I took the parts of the bumper that fell out of my camera and glued them together to get an idea of the size of the mirror bumper. It's 6mm in diameter. Koh's camera is a store in NY that is known for repairing these in the past, and the guy I talked to on the phone said this part isn't needed. I'd like to be safe and fix it though...

Completed 1:18 scale, 4.25" tall sculpt of Darth Malgus - Sith Lord from the Lucasarts/Bioware MMO game Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Figure is a complete sculpt using a custom articluated frame as it's armature. The 8 different heads have all been sculpted and hand painted - each depicting a window of time in the life of Malgus and inspired by the cinematic trilogies created by Blur Studios: Return, Hope and Deceived.

All armor is hand sculpted and original. The chest and left shoulder armor are removable and can be replaced with "battle damaged" armor as an alternate. Hood is a sculpted piece and works along side the soft goods cape which is an altered piece from a store bought VOTC Darth Vader.
Lightsaber is hand sculpted, casted in plastic. Saber does not light up. Bean is removable from hilt.
Sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt and hand painted using Testors Polly Scale and Floquil acrylics.
Sculpt progress on the Space Jockey - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began sculpting the arms of the creature using Aves FIXIT s my sculpting material. Sharp/clean areas will be weathered, softened. The next step will be the shoulders, body and upper back portaion of the chair. Hands will be last before moving on to the rest of the piece. More to come! Sculpt update on the Queen - ALIENS 86 - 1:18 scale. Worked on the back "fins" of the crown - one side close to completion, the other side dremeled and ready for sculpting. Also finished dremeling out the underside of the carapace so I can begin sculpting the details once the top surface is complete... Will not be long till I begin sculpting the Queen's head! The many sculpts of Kane (Sir John Hurt) - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. Works in Progress. Using a new batch of head sculpts (my original 1/12 scale sculpts) reduced using Hydroshrink. Sculpt updates!! First is an alternate version of Ripley's (Sigourney Sigourney Weaver) head sculpt. Gave her some bangs as she appeared early in the film and one version will have a head set. Not long till we get to paint!!! #alien #ripley #sigouneyweaver #nostromo #sith_fire30
Sculpt update on the Alien Warrior - 1:18 scale - ALIENS 86. Completed the small scaled head sculpt of the Alien Warrior. The first attempt had the head too wide, the second was too short in length....the third though is just right smile emoticon The lower jaw is a borrowed cast from my ALIEN79 beastie. I plan to create some variants similar to the 79 version. Now - back to sculpting the upper torso and plenty of head sculpts that need to be painted. #aliens #alien #warrior #queen #hive #sculpture #art #monsterinthebasement
