#EXXONKNEW
San Francisco
July 13, 2017
“Investigate Exxon.
Recent reports have shown that Exxon knew about the threat of climate change decades ago. Yet over the course of nearly forty years, the company has contributed millions of dollars to think tanks and politicians that have done their best to spread doubt and misinformation — first on the existence of climate change, then the extent of the problem, and now its cause. If Exxon intentionally misled the public about climate change and fossil fuels, then they should be held accountable. We’re calling for an immediate investigation.”

Pinellas 296--which is called 118th Avenue, Bryan Dairy Road, and 102nd Avenue, depending on which municipality you are in, is a major cross-county road that is almost a freeway in some portions. Despite this, I believe there is only one gas station along the entire stretch. There used to be two...until this Exxon closed.
This place has been closed for a few years now and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere soon.

(Former World Gas Station)
Self Service Gas Station
Updated note on 02/13/2010: In the Los Angeles Times over the last year, there has been several articles about the giant oil companies and how they are either getting rid of their retail operations or selling them off to another party.
Chevron (Chevron Texaxo), Mobil (Exxon Mobile) and Union 76 (76 Conoco Phillips) are three giants that come to mind. Some of things that I have read were Conoco Phillips has sold their retail operations to a thrid party, and Chevron is exitng certain markets.
Finally, Exxon Mobil was down sizing and exiting markets, but it was not clear where or which brands.
In Southern California, several years ago, prior to the EXXON Mobil merger, Mobil was the major player and EXXON had just re-enteered the Southern California market by taking over WORLD Gasoline Stations. All the original EXXON full service Gasoline Stations had been closed for several years and rebranded or closed by EXXON upon leaving the Southern California market.
That is probably the reason why there are two tiers of types of stations run by EXXON Mobil around here, Mobil regular full/self serve auto repair/convenience store Gasolind Stations and Exxon has mini marts or self serve Gas Stations, no full service EXXONS or ones with auto repair.
This old Exxon station sits on the northern fringes of Memphis, literally the last gas station before going out of Memphis toward Millington. This view is from February 2014, but the relatively good news is a street view from the summer of 2014 shows it had since reopened as what looks like one of those generic, ghetto-type beer and gas stores.

Former Exxon, 1980-built, Thomas St. (Hwy. 51) near Watkins St., Memphis
Here is a re-created view of the former Exxon station on Route 66 in Adrian, TX next to the Mid-Point Cafe as it probably appeared in the 1970s following the name change from Enco and the addition of unleaded gasoline and a diesel fuel pump.
Today, the station stands vacant and the service bays are gone, along with the pumps and imaging. A 1960 Chevrolet Impala sport sedan (four-door hardtop) is now parked on the side where the outer service bay was located.
What About the Exxon Valdez?
Perhaps one of the most memborable oil spills in history, the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989 was certainly large - with about 257,000 barrels of crude lost - but it is only a fraction of the size, by volume, of the biggest spills in history. Despite the relatively small volume compared with the biggest oil spills, the Valdez disaster seriously affected the area's ecology.
The spill covered about 1,300 square miles after the Valdez struck a reef and began leaking oil into Prince William Sound, an extremely remote area that is generally only accessible by helicopter or seaplane.
The cleanup effort was also hampered by the area's calm waters, which couldn't mix the oil dispersant chemicals to break down the oil. Other clean-up efforts had unintended negative effects on the region, such as the destruction of microorganisms. About 26,000 gallons are estimated to remain on the Alaskan shores as a result of the Valdez disaster.
There was also the loss of animal and marine life in the area. It is estimated that more than 250,000 seabirds, as well as thousands of other animals died as a result of the spill.

Station on Route 66 east in Tucumcari, NM as it probably appeared in the 1960s under the Enco brand, which changed to Exxon in 1972.
It is located on East Tucumcari Blvd. across the street from the Station is located on East Tucumcari Boulevard (Route 66) across the street from the Tucumcari Inn (formerly the Best Western Aruba) and Historic Route 66 Motel (the old Royal Palacio Motel).
Today it stands vacant after ceasing operations as an Exxon station in the 1990s and operating as an independent garage in later years.
Powers Cemetery is just outside Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania in Lawrence Township, Tioga County. Seeing a gas station from a cemetery is slightly odd.
First the Exxon closed down early in 2008 and then a few months later the BK was gone, along with others in Smithfield and in Franklin. More info here.
I've only been in here a few times. This one time I came in here in 2004 or 2005 this crazy old bat was yelling at the cooks and the manager because was demanding that her bacon for her burger be flame broiled too. She was holding up the line, and everybody was griping. That was the last time I was in there.

Former Exxon Station, 1970s design, currently under renovations. This is the 2nd major remodel. This time, I believe they will finally wipe out the original 1970s design. Located on Venice Blvd. at Sawtelle in West Los Angeles, California, Southern California. Photos taken on 07/07/2009. This station was very close in design to another former Exxon Station on Santa Monica near Sawtelle.

A very large train layout seen at a recent estate sale. Very sad to see this man's passion torn apart in two days that probably took years to create.
The second day of the sale virtually the only thing left was the tracks, not to scale vehicles and some broken pieces of plastic that tore loose when buildings were removed.
