I am always lagging behind, so a lot of the times my husband gets in the picture! The Dwight Harrigan/Exxon Mobile Bayou Boardwalk at Bellingrath Gardens and Home in Mobile, AL. A beautiful walk through over the Fowl River.
Happy Fence Friday and stay cool over the weekend friends!
Dad and the King take RISI north out of Johnsonburg with a leader that pissed off basically everyone other than those out shooting. I checked to see what was lining up for the train out of Riker in the morning, and saw this exact set, in order. We all figured it had to be flipped. Zach came through the door later that morning with news that the train was working the Sewer Plant with the prescribed set, so of course we had to capitalize!

From the New York Times: Under a draft plan Democrats are circulating, the Treasury Department would tax a handful of the biggest emitters of planet warming pollution to pay for climate change......to an estimated $500 billion.
Exxon would be one of those companies. Good.
Wonderful Friday and weekend to you.
One of the many Natural Gas Rigs off the coast of Alabama...specifically, this one is in Mobile Bay just north of Fort Morgan. This one was owned and operated by Exxon-Mobile. My understanding is that most, if not all, of these rigs scattered throughout the immediate area are no longer in use and now abandoned. However, they are a haven for marine life and have become particularly popular among fishermen looking for that big catch! Regardless, they are are interesting photography subjects...

A beautiful day, but what can you do with 222 seconds to kill?
Get the Big Stopper and capture something blue.
Former Texaco Gas Station located off Highway 99 in rural Manteca,CA. This was originally a Texaco Gas Station then by 2000 was branded under the Exxon name. In 2005 the place was rebranded once again this time under the Arco name.
Here is the gas station back in 1997 when it was a Texaco...

Abandoned gas station, Wortham, Texas.
Clouds were starting to set in as I made this shot, and the lone on-duty member of Wortham's law enforcement establishment sat in his police cruiser across the street, waiting to see what I was doing. When he figured it out, he pulled up and struck up a conversation. Very nice fella, he even told me about another interesting site in town a block away that he thought might be interesting to shoot. Turns out he was right...pictures coming soon.

This is a much faster alternative than driving all they way up and around Mobile Bay to get to the other side.

Gas flare at the Exxon Mossmorran plant in Fife. The flare functions as a safety device when the plant is operating at other than normal condition. Although interesting to photograph it is a cause of growing anger from people living in the vicinity of the plant who are affected by the light and sound from the flaring.
I haven't been shooting much lately, but I found these shots from a couple of years ago of a foggy morning on the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge.
This one is the Exxon refinery, taken from across the river.
An interesting recent find, here in New Zealand, was this Minolta 7000 AF Maxxum featuring the crossed X's in the Maxxum logo.
The Maxxum branding was just for the US market - other countries the camera was known as the 7000 AF or Dynax 7000. Given the history behind this crossed X camera, I was most surprised at finding one in NZ.
When this camera launched in early 1985, it featured this new crossed X Maxxum logo, however the oil giant Exxon also used this crossed X in their logo and went on to take legal action against copyright with Minolta.
A settlement was reached and Minolta was allowed to sell the last units already produced with the crossed X logo but had to redesign their Maxxum logo which went on to feature two standard X's.
It was very much just the first production run of these cameras that had the crossed X logo, so a rarity value to these and even more so here possibly as this was the branding for the US!
Happily, this one seems to be in good working order and may no doubt be put to use again!
