Exxon (closed) [1,050 square feet]
3327 West Mercury Boulevard, Hampton, VA
This location was built in 1986, replacing the original 1959-built location constructed as an Esso on site. The station closed around 1993-1994 and reopened in 1999; in-between that period Boston Market showed interest in building a location on here, but underground gas leaks prevented them from doing so; instead, they built here. The station closed in 2020 and was demolished shortly after I took these photos. In 2022 a 7-Eleven/Exxon was built on site, which opened in February 2023.

Best interior shot I could get by sticking my zoom lens on a meshed fence inside a vintage gas station. Whoever owns this station was/is a collector of gas station memorabilia. I loved all the things I found in there.

Remember when Exxon was Esso? Why did they ever change the name anyway???? This is a typical neighborhood gas station that I remember as a kid. Amazingly, no cars in the pic to date it but I would say 1950s to 1960s.

Climate criminals - Exxon kills: Extinction Rebellion activists blockade the exit to the Exxon-Mobil fuel terminal in Yarraville, Melbourne - with two locking on to a large, concrete barrel which required nearly a dozen cops to move. The blockade resulted in two arrests.
The Exxon-Mobil fuel terminal has long been a target for Extinction Rebellion activists.

#EXXONKNEW
San Francisco

“Investigate Exxon.
Recent reports have shown that Exxon knew about the threat of climate change decades ago. Yet over the course of nearly forty years, the company has contributed millions of dollars to think tanks and politicians that have done their best to spread doubt and misinformation — first on the existence of climate change, then the extent of the problem, and now its cause. If Exxon intentionally misled the public about climate change and fossil fuels, then they should be held accountable. We’re calling for an immediate investigation.”

This was most recently an Exxon and it looks like it stopped pumping only recently. The design, however, suggests a 1960s or so ranch Shell or Esso/Enco. Centerpoint, Alabama.
