SAN FRANCISCO Police Department K-9 PYRO was with SFPD OFFICER CANALES at the PET FOOD EXPRESS on California Street in SAN FRANCISCO this weekend for a fund raising event to raise money for the 'COVER YOUR K-9 FUND'. The fund provides bulletproof vests, trauma kits, heat sensors, and other safety equipment for police dogs. 'COVER YOUR K-9' was formed to help California police departments struggling with budget cutbacks.
San Francisco Police Department K-9 PYRO, a Belgium Malinois, and his partner, SFPD Officer CANALES were the center of attention of the event. The friendly staff at PET FOOD EXPRESS was excited to support the fundraising drive. Many customers asked questions about the police dog work, posed for photos, and donated money to the fund.
There are 11 police dogs with the San Francisco Tactical Unit in which four are crossed trained in the Explosive Unit & seven in the Narcotics Unit. The Narcotics Unit has two full time dogs, while the Muni Unit has five bomb sniffing dogs. The San Francisco Airport has a unit that consists of twelve police dogs. US Customs has a separate Federal program where dogs search for illegal agriculture & money (the dogs can smell the ink on large amounts of money).
There are many police dogs around the Bay Area that need of safety equipment and training. For more information or to make a donation, go to www.coveryourk9.org or send a check to the 'Cover Your K-9 Fund', P.O. Box 620629, Woodside CA 94062.

5972 was originally named 'Olton Castle' and is seen here at the National Railway Museum in York.
The steam locomotive no. 5972 "Olton Hall" is a 4-6-0 Hall class locomotive.
In the 2000s the locomotive achieved fame after it was used to haul the "Hogwarts Express" in the Harry Potter series of films.
In the films the locomotive is depicted pulling a train of four carriages. Scenes were filmed inside King's Cross railway station, crossing over the Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland and at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway — along with internal scenes on board the train.
When filming, "Olton Hall" carries a "Hogwarts Express" headboard on the smokebox, featuring the Hogwarts School crest. The same emblem is featured as part of the Hogwarts Railways' sigil on the tender and carriages. She retains her GWR number of 5972, but with alternative nameplates fitted, naming the engine "Hogwarts Castle". She is painted in a maroon livery — a non-standard colour, as Great Western Railway locomotives traditionally used Brunswick Green.
The renaming as "... Castle" has become a railway preservation joke: "..the Hall that thinks it's a Castle". The Great Western Railway Castle Class engines were a larger type of locomotive.
Somewhat ironically, the Hornby Railways model of the locomotive is actually a model of a Castle class locomotive not a Hall.

📚History: Bombardier Aerospace began studies in 1991 and the aircraft was officially launched in 1993. The first flight occurred on October 13, 1996. The Global Express shares the Canadair / Bombardier Regional Jet's fuselage cross section and is similar in length, but despite the size similarities the two aircraft are very different due to the nature of their roles. The Global Express features an advanced all new supercritical airfoil with a 35° sweep and winglets, plus a new T-tail. The aircraft is powered by two BMW RollsRoyce BR-710 turbofans with FADEC. The advanced flight deck features a six screen Honeywell Primus 2000 XP EFIS suite and is offered with optional heads-up displays.
The Global Express was announced on 28 October 1991 at the NBAA convention. Full-scale cabin mockup was exhibited at the NBAA convention in September 1992. Conceptual design started early 1993 and the programme was officially launched on 20 December 1993. The aircraft high-speed configuration was frozen in June 1994 and the low-speed configuration was established in August 1994.
Bombardier subsidiaries have three specific roles in the project: Canadair is the design leader and manufactures the nose; Short Brothers, Belfast is responsible for the design and manufacture of the engine nacelles, horizontal stabiliser and forward fuselage; and de Havilland Canada builds the rear fuselage and vertical tail and carries out final assembly. The major external supplier is Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries which builds the wing and centre fuselage sections. In 2015, Bombardier announced to reduce production because of lower demand caused by slowing economy and geopolitics in markets such as Latin America, Russia and China.

The Virgin Express flights map from summer 1998. The Brussels-based carrier was the Virgin Group’s low-cost operation on the European continent, after it acquired EBA in 1996.
The map is simple and straight forward. I like how they show charter destinations with a lighter marker than scheduled destinations, making the scheduled operations easier to follow. More airlines should do this with codeshare operations.
Virgin sold Virgin Express to SN Brussels Airlines in 2004 and the two merged to form Brussels Airlines in 2007.
Virgin Express operated one A320, 12 737-300s and five 737-400s in June 1998, the Flight Fleets Analyzer shows.
Hogwarts Express tender & engine almost complete. I'm reasonably happy with the whole thing, but may do some more mods soon. Although it does lack some of the complexities of other builds I've seen, I'm happy with the overall proportions and feel.
The wheel spacing of the tender is a little short, but I've devised a system to float some small wheels in the teasing holes that Lego have moulded into the PF train motor. The alternative of adding a third wheel behind the motor just looked too long to me.
Note the IR receiver neatly tucked into the tender.
Also, I am aware that this isn't sitting on Lego track - But that is the only non-lego item.

Snowball Express XI was a great success as we welcomed nearly 1800 children and families of our fallen military heroes to Dallas for a week full of activities!
Beginning with the arrival of our generously donated charter flights by presenting sponsor American Airlines with all volunteer flight crews from all over the country, the families were taken by Greyhound motor coach and Patriot Guard escort to our host hotel, the Hilton Anatole Dallas. The hotel was filled with activities in the Teen and children lounges, and in the Gallo family lounge for the adults.
Day one began with our police and patriot guard escort to Fort Worth, completely shutting down highway 30 with a 48 school bus precession. Firefighters from Arlington lined the overpasses to wave and salute our families!
After arriving in Fort Worth, the annual Walk of Gratitude was held at the famous Fort Worth Stock Yards. The families were then treated to the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show at the Cowtown Coliseum. From there our families were taken to the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base for a private concert by Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band in a Hangar on base. Gary put on a great show as always for the families and then handed out teddy bears for all the children. Food was provided by Texas Land and Cattle, and prepared with the help of Chef Robert Irvine.
Day 2 included a fun day at four separate game centers around DFW. That evening everyone enjoyed a great dinner and entertainment at Medieval Times Show & Dinner.
The third day included our annual Talent Showcase presented by the Texas Music Project, followed by another amazing closing show by our Chief Fun Officer, David Hira.
Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers who help make this amazing week of tributes possible for these special families who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Please visit www.snowballexpress.org to see how you can help sponsor of volunteer for the 2017 event!
