A march against the exploitation of and racism toward international students in Australia that the governments (both state and federal) continue to allow to exist. International and Australian students from NSW universities (such as Newcastle, UTS, Macquarie, UNSW and Sydney University) rallied together, marching from Sydney University to UTS and on to NSW Parliament House, asking for the government to intervene and change legislation that allows international students to be taken advantage of.

Some basic rights like abolishing the 20-hour work week limit and providing student travel concessions to international students were demanded in chants and songs. At a deeper level though, the protesters are demanding an end to the systematic racism and exploitation of international students, who are increasingly treated more as a means to profit than as students to educate.

We know that bags are made of water proof material so we use that to our advantage and cover bike seats in the rain.

Another poster scored from Brian Bubonic. He used to work at a Video/Record store where he would get this sort of thing.

The term "Working Poor" refers to individuals who, despite being employed, live in poverty due to low wages and inadequate working conditions. This phenomenon is prevalent in many parts of the world, including the European Union. In Southern Europe, particularly in countries like France and Italy, the working poor demographic is significant and troubling. These individuals often engage in low-paying, physically demanding, and hazardous jobs that offer little to no job security, benefits, or opportunities for advancement.

The plight of the working poor is especially poignant among young women. These women often find themselves trapped in a cycle of exploitation and hardship, performing jobs that are both physically taxing and socially demeaning. They work long hours in sectors such as agriculture, construction, manufacturing, and service industries, where the working conditions can be deplorable.

In France and Italy, it is estimated that a significant portion of the workforce belongs to the working poor category. According to recent studies, approximately 8-10% of the working population in these countries falls under this classification, with young women being disproportionately affected. These women are often migrants or from disadvantaged backgrounds, lacking the resources or opportunities to escape their circumstances.

Poem: "Ode to the Working Poor Women"

In fields where the sun beats down,

And sweat mingles with the soil,

They labour with furrowed brows,

Invisible in their toil.

In kitchens where the steam does rise,

And knives cut through the day,

Their hands move with practiced ties,

In a world that turns away.

In factories dim and loud,

Where machines never cease,

Their spirits, though weary and bowed,

Seek a fragment of peace.

Unseen, unheard, they strive,

In a cycle of relentless need,

But within their hearts, they keep alive,

A hope, a dream, a seed.

To the young women who endure,

In the shadows of our cities bright,

Your strength, your courage pure,

Is a beacon in the night.

Haikus

Toil in silence, strong,

Sweat and hope, their daily song,

Brave hearts, all day long.

Fields and kitchens call,

Women rise and never fall,

Shadows hide them all.

"The only way animal exploitation will stop is if we shift the paradigm away from animals as property and toward personhood." ~ Gary L Francione

"We can’t be honest with our children about the ways animals are exploited because we ourselves are uncomfortable with it on some level and know our children would not be comfortable with it either. Most of us are aware that other animals, including the ones we regularly exploit are intelligent, sensate individuals with interests in living and continuing their lives free of exploitation." ~ Lucas Hayes

Ted Grant regales visitors with stories of his exploits, in the former darkroom of his house. Victoria, BC, Canada, Aug. 2013.

The world lost a great photographer when Ted Grant passed away on April 19th, 2020. Those of us who knew him personally lost a dear friend. Ted was considered the father of Canadian photojournalism. In a nutshell, Ted was to Canada what the great photographers of Life Magazine were to the U.S. Despite his professional standing, Ted was a modest, down-to-earth gentleman who delighted in sharing his experience with others. RIP, Ted. We'll miss you.
