Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung - A Performance by Robin Rhode
Robin Rhode imagines Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung (Expectation) in Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung - A Performance by Robin Rhode. In partnership with Performa15. Composed in 1909, Erwartung takes the unusual form of a one-act monodrama for a solo soprano, accompanied by a large orchestra. For Rhode, this atonal opera about love, loss, and lamentation, recalled the many hardships experienced by women in South Africa during and after the fall of Apartheid. Originally set in the moonlit, wilderness of the forest, Rhodeâs reproduction of Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung - A Performance by Robin Rhode interprets Times Square itself to be a contemporary forest filled with light emanating from the electronic billboards instead of the moon. The performance takes place in a huge aria with just one soprano and non-speaking performer carrying out the opera, with the sights and sounds of Times Square acting as a Greek Chorus in the background.

Ava as Miss Havisham from Dickens' "Great Expectation" who is stood up by her fiancé on her wedding day and never takes off her wedding dress or puts away the wedding breakfast and cake even as she grows to be an embittered and lonely decrepit old woman.
Today, Miss Havisham poses in a lavish pink gown for a portrait that her fiancé, Mr. Compeyson, has encouraged her to have painted.
Miss Havisham (thinking): "My wonderful fiancé has said that this portrait will immortalize me as I am as we await our wedding. He says that it will forever remind us of our our youthful days of love: 'With this portrait,' he says, 'you shall be frozen in time.'"
"I must remind myself of his words as I stand here and pose. I must fight this restless feeling...I know what will help: imagining myself as I will be on our wedding day, the happiest day of my life.
"If I could wish for a day on which to be frozen in time, it would be that glorious day, the day when I will become the woman that I was born to be, forever enveloped in my exquisite feelings for the man I love..."

Mixing dance, physical theatre and drama, 'expectation' reflects on the issues and themes affecting young people as they mature and become part of a society that is often confusing, demanding and difficult to navigate. "The company members of Theatrication delivered a tour de force ensemble performance in their inaugural devised show 'Expectation'. Each performance was fully crafted and woven into a highly engaging synergous whole..." Clare Limb: Déda. The production is a recipient of an unltd* award. PHYSICAL THEATRE

Saturday morning. Yeah. Forget the day at the park! It's a joke...!! This car was on sale on a parking lot in Maryland during my last trip.
Samedi matin. Ouais. Oublions la journée au parc! C'est une blague...!! Cette voiture était en vente dans un stationnement du Maryland au cours de mon dernier voyage.
It's simple to say that signs of growth are all I needed. New weeds among the dead stones, and what it means to be alone where no one is living. It's an easy expectation, silence and all that. There are cars crossing below this hilltop cemetery, and clearly enough to me, they don't know I'm up here. A nearby neighbor keeps the grass cut, and a new memorial to his wife stands with the century-old markers. I met Vince ten years ago, but haven't seen him since. He was clearing off the years of brush and alder trees, and I'm thankful for the effort. Whether I'm sitting here in the sinking evening, or long and late through the star or moon-lit night, it means the world to me to have this mournful corner to myself. It's a good place to daydream.

Algy's parents had a mirror with the 5 boys advert on which I found hard to look at. Continuing this form I havn't included 'Desperation', of which there is a shot. Though with hot chocolate it would appear that desperation appears after Realisation that mummy has just taken the cup away.
