More in hope that expectation we set out on Christmas Morning
But the angels came
In fact when we arrived at 12:00 they were already flying around in the brilliant sunlight., and apart from a brief pause mid afternoon they never stopped
We came to see them Christmas Day and they handed out their presents
Last weekend was our annual fishing and camping trip to Julianadorp. Contrary to expectations, we had great weather during the day. Thunderstorms were predicted for Friday evening, so when I heard rumbling we packed up. In retrospect it was not too bad, but the beach is not the place you want to be with a thunderstorm, especially with the long fishing rods. It only rained at night then. The second evening we also left quickly, another dark sky arrived. We were just in the car when the rain started, which then continued all evening and half the night. Safe and dry in the tent, that only sounds cozy. After two nights it was time to pack up and go home.

This trip was more about hope than expectation, and unfortunately it didn't really work out. Beinn a' Chearchaill is a one of the mountains that is often overlooked in the Torridon area, and it had taken me a very long time to getting round to climb it. It is a steady trudge up from the Bridge of Grudie by the shores of Loch Maree opposite Slioch. The top of the mountain is an amazing bowling green of a flat sandstone platform that is covered in bowling ball size stones - how did they get there??? The main reason for climbing this hill is the amazing views to the other bigger hills all around it. You look into the jaws of Coire Mhic Fhearchair of Beinn Eighe; across to the steep cliffs of Liathach; along to Beinn Dearg; across a deep valley to Beinn an Eoin and across Loch Maree to Slioch. That's in good weather - but not today... The thick cloud with squally rain hid those wonders, and I got this one fleeting view to the neighbouring Meall a Ghiuthais. Ah well - at least this taste gave me a good idea of what would be possible, so I will do my best to go back on a better day, camera in hand. This would be a really good hill to climb in the winter.
The moon is swimming naked and the summer night is fragrant with a mighty expectation of relief. - Leonard Cohen
The approach to the big reveal of Eskdale across a bog...I feel this image almost has a look of a South American vista of the Andes! But maybe not.

With several days of rain as a comforting prospect, an earlier scarlet color change in this maple makes a recent superb memory......and expectation for the same next and every Fall.

Expectation is like a drug, when taken in the right way, it helps us excel in life. The problem with expectation is that once you expect too much, many a times it became the mother of all disappointment and frustration that tend to lead us to actions that we would ultimately regret. The key to a happy life my friend, is to manage your expectation well.
