Smart TV evolution

The expectation of our TVs have changed – we now expect our set to do a lot more than just flicking through broadcast TV channels. Consumers have been given a taste of a vast array of online content made available through TV sets, allowing the viewing of programs that...

Wednesday 17th June. There was widespread expectation First Minister Nicola Sturgeon would announce a move to phase two of lockdown on Thursday 18th June and give indicative dates for further easing of lockdown.

In phase two the virus is controlled but remains; R is consistently below 1 and WHO conditions are met. Physical distancing would still be required.

Phase two includes: People meeting in larger groups; workers being allowed to return to construction sites; opening playgrounds; small shops selling non-essential goods reopening (but not shopping malls); outdoor beer gardens but not indoor areas of pubs.

"Ms Sturgeon has previously stressed that not all of the changes will happen overnight, and it might not be until "the coming weeks" that some are in place."

#1227 - 2011 Day 131: 116 days ago, Gavin left for his expedition to Fiji, followed by travelling through USA and Canada. Today he came home.

Carolyn managed to break through the early morning fugg of a trip to Heathrow to give me a smile of expectation at Gavin's arrival.

This is the holy trinity of food. I have a new favorite place. Sure, I still love Disneyland and all, but Chompie’s New York Deli is truly the happiest place on earth. I have been counting down the days until I got to eat here. Not just since we planned this trip, or knew this trip was happening, but from the time I learned about Chompie’s to just whenever I knew we’d be coming back to Arizona. No matter what the trip was for or when it was, I was going to eat here. We went yesterday and both went for the regular order of Jewish Sliders. The Jewish sliders are lean brisket, a potato latke and monterey jack cheese on a challah roll - three of ‘em. But they do also make Western Sliders (brisket, onion string and cheddar) and Breakfast Sliders (turkey sausage, latke, and a fried egg). The Jewish Sliders were out of this world amazing. They’ve been built up in my head with nothing but the highest of expectations of perfection since I first learned about them and they lived up to every bit of that expectation. So, when we came back today, we just had to try the other sliders, but didn’t want to give up the Jewish Slider experience. Thankfully, they not only sell them in regular orders of three, but a ala carte. So what you see here is one each of the above described sliders. Each one as fabulous and amazing as the other. I really couldn’t pick it favorite, it would be like trying to pick a favorite child. Ultimately, they are each sheer awesomeness for their own reasons and in their own specially epic ways. Where part of me wishes I lived closer to a Chompie’s or that a Chompie’s was closer to where I lived, it’s safer for me if that never happens, because I’d probably weigh about 500 pounds. Because while what you see here are their sliders from the restaurant, they also have a deli section in the same building. Fresh bagels, challah, sourdough, marble rye, different savory deli items and case of wonderment in the form of pastries. Cannoli, éclairs, black and white cookies, baklava, rainbow cookies, rugalah, and more and more and more. Actually, when I opened the door the first time, the very first thing I saw were the rainbow cookies, I literally jumped and down and clapped and ran to the bakery case. Chompie’s is a tiny bit of heaven on earth.

Expectation.

By John William Godward (1861-1922).

Oil on canvas, 1900.

Balcony scene in a classical setting. A young woman lies stretched out on a marble balcony seat, facing the left of the picture. She lies on her front, on a tiger skin rug, propping her head up with her right arm, a black feather fan with an elaborate handle in her left hand, hanging down the side of the seat. She is dressed in a salmon pink dress with yellow patterned fabric wrapped around her middle, and a blue sash securing the loose dress fabric. Her dark, thick hair is pinned at the back of her head. The ends of the balcony walls are decorated with stone heads of gods. A mature tree grows next to the balcony on the far left, the tops of trees showing above the balcony wall on the right. The sea is visible in the background, with coastline in the distance, below a bright blue sky.

Godward painted everyday scenes in the costume of the ancient past. He was no antique scholar, and aimed at a general classical look rather than worrying about the accuracy of his props. This painting shows off one of his finer skills: capturing the veins and stains on blocks of marble.

EXPECTATION

Wednesday 29 July, 7.30pm, £10/£5.

Z-arts, 335 Stretford Road, Manchester, M15 5ZA

Theatrication is formed of young performers from Derbyshire aged between 18-24 and a considerably older director. Expectation is their debut production. Mixing dance, physical theatre and drama, 'expectation' reflects on the issues and themes affecting young people as they mature and become part of a society that is often confusing, demanding and difficult to navigate. "The company members of Theatrication delivered a tour de force ensemble performance in their inaugural devised show 'Expectation'. Each performance was fully crafted and woven into a highly engaging synergous whole..." Clare Limb: Déda. The production is a recipient of an unltd* award. PHYSICAL THEATRE

As we enter September, the expectation is that the summer ends and the cloud and cold will accumulate again. St Johann is easily showing the lie to this though, with emerald fields under bright blue open skies - just see the scope of the entire range of the Wilder Kaiser mountains and the Nieder Kaiser ridge encompassed in clear air. Tomorrow, temperatures are predicted to reach highs of 84 degree - summer's by no means over, make a great deal on a late booking and grab a last chance to get some sun before our final arrival day on the 21st!

Expectation. Bring on the monsoon.

My monarch should be a butterfly tomorrow, and just in time for the good weather!

A doctor's visit:

Bloodwork, flu shot. Pain only

In expectation.

I don't really know when I got over my fear of needles, exactly. Sometimes it feels like it happened gradually, over years of time. Sometimes, I think there must have been one doctor's visit that was suddenly easier than the others. I do seem to remember becoming curious about the blood being drawn, and it eventually overtaking my anxiety.

The nurse who administered my shot and drew my blood today told me about her daughter. She's 6 years old and actually laughs when she gets her vaccinations. At the eye doctor, she asked excitedly if there would be needles. The nurse also told me about some adults who still pass out in her lab. I can understand that, I suppose. When a liver biopsy was suggested two years ago, the idea of an 8 inch needle puncturing my diaphragm and piercing my organs was deeply disturbing. But smaller needles have become much more bearable in the years since adolescence.

At what point are we socialized to be afraid of shots? Which movies, and what friends, teach us? And more importantly, what other fears do we experience as Truly Scary, but like the insignificant prick of a needle, are really only painful in our imaginations?

Ah, yes. The fear of failure.... It haunts me still. But lately I've been starting to get a little curious about what happens after the failure. The thin trickle of insight that inevitably appears.

Maybe, just maybe, I'm beginning to outgrow it.

Update: No, I wasn't.

impatience, anticipation, expectation... a little more impatience.... What do you mean, Christmas isn't 'til Tuesday?!?

After much scrutiny, I decided to speak to the theme of "expectation" that I saw in Kerin's last three pictures.

A really lovely day out to Wisley Gardens.

Whilst I took lots of traditional shots of the gardens I’ve opted to post this quirky shot of some empty pots. There’s the expectation that something blooming marvellous will appear at some point in the future!
