We act as we expect with results that are never sufficient enough. Getting lost in the struggle between expectancy and lived reality, we might feel like strangers in our world. A place which we never truly make but that instead makes us.
For spring to come...Yet, weather forecast is for severe winter conditions to prevail in the next few days; I wish I was there when snow covers everything...
So, another three weekends of Sunday engineers is upon us, as phase 1 of the resignalling of the coast draws ever closer to conclusion.
I knew of work at Flint, installing more bi-di crossovers. I knew nothing of replacing part of the down platform loop at Rhyl, mere yards from my doorstep. I'd lost all interest at Flint though, the 6Yxx headcodes meaning Freightliner, rather than Colas, were on the job. Ying ying ying.
A text at 0430 this morning alerted me to the presence of a train at Rhyl, and one daylight mooch later, this pair of crackers were hogging the viewfinder.
Made my day, that. Even if it has left me mildly insomnaic...
56113 and 56096, looking a little more respectable than the last time they came this way, drawing forward from the worksite under the H bridge at Rhyl.

een vrij uniek moment op deze maandagavond, zelden heb ik de rivier de Ijssel zó "spiegelglad" gezien. Nou had ik deze plek al eerder op het oog maar dat ik dít zou zien was echt boven verwachting.
a very unique moment on this Monday evening, I never ever had seen the river Ijssel so smooth I had this place in my mind for some time but I couldn't expect this view.

I don't often comment on the meanings behind my images. Mostly this is due to the fact that I want the viewer to sort of formulate their own, or at least let the image have it's effect on the viewer without my expounders, and a lot of pieces are attached to personal ideals that don't necessarily need to be voiced. But, I would like to make a general comment on this piece. This image represents my fear, loathing, and general distaste for social expectation, acceptance of domestication and the rituals of the domesticated. This image is not alone in it's representing these ideas, most of my work shares these same themes. However, I am not outside of these concepts either. I live in them just like everyone else, and I have a lot of self loathing because of that. These pieces are a way for me to make sense of that conflict.

On this trip I took a pancake lens that I bought to lighten the weight of my current camera, which is really heavy, and I was pleased with the unexpectedly clear images.
With all the crazy weather in the mid-west we were forecast to get 4-7" but it's just not materializing. What we have gotten so far is a big nothing burger. But temperature wise things are getting ugly - heading for below zero for lows over the next couple of nights. If I win the lottery I'll move to a warmer climate - but there is little to no chance of that happening.
Wrapped in expectation
Penelope was the daughter of Icarius and a first cousin of Helen of Troy. She was the wife of Odysseus and was famous for her cleverness and for her faithfulness to her husband.
When Odysseus failed to return from the Trojan War (he was delayed for ten years on his way home), Penelope was beset by suitors who wanted her to remarry. In order to delay them, she insisted that she could not remarry until she had finished weaving a shroud for Odysseus' father, Laertes. She worked each day at her loom, and then unravelled the cloth each night. After three years of successful delay, one of her servants revealed her deception, and the impatient suitors angrily demanded that she choose one of them for her husband immediately. At the prompting of Athene, Penelope said that she would marry the man who could string Odysseus' bow and shoot an arrow through twelve axes. By this time, Odysseus himself had secretly returned, disguised as a beggar; he passed the test of the bow, and then proceeded to slaughter the suitors who had tormented his wife.
In expectation of next weekend… another one of the beautiful @carla_sonre from previous session @paul_meulemans. Hopefully Covid-19 will contain itself in the Wroclaw area…
