A trip to LA is not complete without a trip to Hollywood! It was really cheesy and goofy but I had a lot of fun. (Until the car died, but that's another story entirely)

As you all know I love architecture shots and there sure were plenty of neat ones to pick from here. Come back to this image later - I'm sure you'll be able to trace my steps because I took photos of many of these buildings from a more isolated viewpoint.

After the show I went to some bar, which featured this memorably battered EXIT sign.

Interstate 80 East, Union County, within Bald Eagle State Forest.

Exit 199 (Mile Run) provides easy, convenient access to the northern edge of the state forest via a gravel-surfaced woods road. Travelers seeking services need to drive 13 more miles to the next exit.

This is Catch Photo #18, a new game of Photo Catch I'm playing with my Partner Darek (aka blankspace321) . We each take turns adding something to the photo. We limit ourselves to 20 additions each. This is the 19th of my 20.

Some of the weirdest landscape I've ever seen only a few hours from Los Angeles California on the 10

An eastbound Piccadilly Line train arrives at Hammersmith Underground Station, Platform 3, on a February morning in 1984. Not much more to say about this shot, except to deplore euronomad's focusing technique. The confectionery vending machine at right is offering Cadbury's Dairy Milk and Whole Nut Chocolate, and twin packs of Wrigley's Spearmint Gum.

A corridor in the law firm I worked for in International Place in Boston's Financial District.

Taken in 2006.

Inside the Zeise Kinos, about the only cinema around here that has good movies and popcorn - most repertory cinemas here are too small to have a popcorn machine (or whatever reason they have not to sell popcorn).

We went to see "The Intouchables", by the way - go, too, if you haven't!

I took this while at the Stratosphere in Vegas. These were a common sight in the tower.

This is the cleaned up, non-blue line version from earlier. I liked the shadow on the wall and the odd colors (which isn't nearly this salmon color in real life).

ISO Speed: 100

Exposure Bias: 0 EV

Post-Processing Notes: This is a composite of two photos. The Exit sign background was taken at work last night, using my wee PowerShot A590. The image of me was taken here at home, using my EOS 50D. Much thanks to Poe Tatum for her kick-ass tutorial on creating a mask using the pen tool (this thing is going to save me hours upon hours upon hours of labour in the future). I've had this image in my head for several weeks now, just waiting for the day that I could finally put it together and upload it. Considering that this is the first time I've used this method for masking, I'm quite pleased with it, although I'm sure it could be better.

THE DEADBEAT CLUB, by The B52s (video at www.singingfool.com)

Huh? Get a job?

What for?

I'm tryin' ta think.

I was good, I could talk

A mile a minute

On this caffeine buzz I was on

We were really hummin'

We would talk every day for hours

We belong to the deadbeat club

Anyway we can

We're gonna find something

We'll dance in the garden

In torn sheets in the rain

We'll dance in the garden

In torn sheets in the rain

In the rain

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

Going down to Allen's for

A twenty-five cent beer

And the jukebox playing real loud

"Ninety-six tears"

We're wild girls walkin' down the street

Wild girls and boys going out for a big time

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

Let's go crash that party down

In Normaltown tonight

Then we'll go skinny-dippin'

In the moonlight

We're wild girls walkin' down the street

Wild girls and boys going out for a big time

Anyway we can

We're gonna find something

We'll dance in the garden

In torn sheets in the rain

We'll dance in the garden

In torn sheets in the rain

In the rain

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

We're the deadbeat club

Oh no! Here they come

The members of the deadbeat club

I don't think I've ever been so happy to be laid off! Yesterday evening was my last day of work, and I'm now a happy and proud member of the Deadbeat Club. Huh? Get a job? What for? I don't want a job. I want to do what I enjoy, what makes me happy. The advice to "get a job" has to be some of the worst advice I've ever heard. :P

Signed,

Gary (Newly Inducted Member of The Deadbeat Club)

P.S. Technically, this Friday is my last day of work, but yesterday evening was the last day of actual work. Well, the last day of going in to do nothing and get paid for it. From now until Friday, I won't be going in at all, until 10a on Friday morning, but I'll still be paid for it. Make sense? I didn't think so. :P

Apparently, I missed my exit to Disneyland. This wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't driven this route three or four times a week. To make matters worse, once I did exit at the next off ramp, I got lost. This wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't lost in the city I grew up in. To make matters worse, as I originally passed the correct off ramp, I may of said 'don't worry, I grew up here and know this city like the back of my hand'. In my defense, the back of my hand DOES have more wrinkles now than it used to.

I've passed this nest on my way home from Blackwater numerous times, yesterday I decided to stop and take some photos. I've seen nests in some strange places (channel markers, power line poles, stadium lighting, etc) but this is my favorite one.

Photo of the day February 18, 2021 - Spent some time at Wilcox Auto on this rainy Thursday. Decided to take a picture of the door, as seen from my seat in the waiting room. Brought my car in today for a tire issue, had my wife's car here yesterday for an oil change.

The flowers have peaked. The fair ended a little more than a week ago. And Fall is in the air. The monarchs are restless and ready to travel. The gardens are still beautiful.
