The Famous Exit 69 Big Beaver Rd. Sign (this is the one on the northbound side of I-75)

On April 6, 2019, I visited a Traveling Carnival that was Playing that week in Downtown Palm Harbor, Florida. This Photograph shows the Bear Cars circling a Bee Hive with Honey flowing out of the Hive. I would call this the Bears Seeking Honey Kiddie Ride, which was set up on Florida Avenue in Palm Harbor.

This ride is owned by Arnolds Amusements, Inc. and they call themselves: "The Finest Midway for Family Entertainment".

They call this Ride, the POOH BEAR Kiddie Ride.

I had gone to Downtown Palm Harbor that Morning to get a Haircut and was surprised to see the Carnival had been set up on several streets on several city blocks in Palm Harbor.

I normally park on the Florida Avenue very close to the Barber Shop (between 12th & 11th Streets), however I had to park two blocks away because the carnival completely occupied the street in front of the Barber Shop & for several blocks around it. Luckily, I had my Camera with me (so after my Haircut), I strolled around the area taking Photographs of the Carnival Attractions, which were still being Set-Up !

Photographed using the Kodak Brownie Cresta II, and Kodak Ektar 100 film (120 format).

Camera used: Kodak Flash Single Use Camera.

The Strawberry Festival had a vast number of Rides and Food Joints and I'm sure Belle City Subcontracted other Carnival Vendors to fill the venue; either that, or the Strawberry Festival Board itself hired other Carnival Vendors to supply Rides & Food Vendors.

The Ace Hotel, at 20 West 29th Street, opened in the former Hotel Breslin in 2009. The 12-floor Beaux Arts building was originally designed by Clinton & Russell for the United States Realty & Construction Co. and opened in 1904 under prominent hotelier, Colonel James H. Breslin.

The Breslin Hotel was noted for its decorated salons and cafes, and its unusual "ladies' grill room." In its heyday, it attracted boxers like Joe Louis and Gene Tunney who fought at Madison Square Garden. In 1951, an 83-year-old W.E.B. du Bois was arrested here for running the anti-Korean War Peace Information Center. The hotel was eventually converted into the Breslin Apartments, a neglected, rent-stabilized, 360-unit single-room-occupancy building before the GFI Development Company signed a long-term lease in 2007, financing a renovation and appointing the Ace Hotel Group to manage the property.

The first East Coast outpost of the Seattle-based hipster hotel brand, the Ace Hotel was designed by the New York firm Roman and Williams. The rooms are designed like apartments--some with bunk beds, Smeg fridges, guitars, turntables with vinyl collections, wall murals and boxer-style bathrobes. The Ace Hotel currently features two restaurants by restaurateur Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield--The Breslin Bar & Dining Room and John Dory Oyster Bar; No. 7 Sub, an extensiont of Tyler Kord's Brooklyn sandwich shop; an outpost of Portland coffee purveyor, Stumptown Coffee Roysters; and two retail shops--No. 8A and Opening Ceremony.

A burst of bold geometry and color defines this intriguing image captured at The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. The photograph frames a dramatic transition between gallery spaces: a doorway perfectly centered in the composition opens onto a brilliant red stairwell, bisected by sharp diagonal lines and a steel-gray handrail. Above the doorway, a glowing red “EXIT” sign adds a theatrical touch, echoing the dominant color beyond.

The contrast between the spaces is striking. The foreground is subdued, with warm wood flooring and neutral-toned gallery walls that host classical artworks in ornate gilded frames. The lighting is soft, designed to enhance the texture and tones of traditional oil paintings. The left edge of the image hints at one such painting, reinforcing the quiet dignity of this gallery zone.

In contrast, the world just beyond the doorway is louder—visually, if not literally. Red dominates the stairwell walls, creating a vibrant and almost surreal transition space. The staircase itself zigzags diagonally across the background, injecting energy and motion into the otherwise still image. It's not just an architectural element—it’s a visual protagonist.

The design of this photograph plays with perspective, boundaries, and themes of transition. The doorway acts like a frame within a frame, emphasizing movement from one conceptual space to another: from classic to contemporary, from enclosed to open, from hushed to bold. It's a meditation on the museum experience itself, where visitors are constantly moving not just through space, but through time, ideas, and artistic eras.

Subtle cues add to the atmosphere. A fire alarm rests quietly on the right wall, and safety handrails on either side of the doorway signal an ADA-compliant and thoughtfully designed environment. The visible portion of the stairwell includes a mid-century modern railing design, with slim vertical bars and a gentle curve on the stair landing—an elegant blend of form and function.

What makes this image particularly resonant is its quiet symbolism. Museums often house polarities: tradition and innovation, stillness and movement, permanence and impermanence. This photograph embodies all those dualities through simple, precise framing. The open doorway doesn't just suggest physical movement, but intellectual passage and emotional transition.

It’s also an invitation. The stairwell draws you in, offering a literal path forward into the museum’s more modern or experimental spaces. The brightness of the red walls compared to the ambient gallery lighting calls to the viewer like a siren, challenging the calm predictability of the museum routine.

Taken as a whole, the photo is less about the physical structure and more about how space, color, and line interact to tell a layered story. It's about the unspoken narratives that architecture can provide—where even an exit becomes a moment of drama, direction, and design intent.

Santiago Calatrava's underground corridor links the World Trade Center PATH Station with the Battery Park City Ferry Terminal and Brookfield Place Pavilion (formerly known as the World Financial Center). The 600-foot long marble passage crosses West St and almost makes you want to go visit New Jersey. This first part of the $4 billion World Trade Center Transportation Hub opened in October 2013, the rest is supposed to be open to the public by 2015.

After I took this and listened for a while I offered him a buck, but he wasn't looking for money.
