On Saturday morning, June 8, 2019, the Rosman High School Tigers celebrated their Commencement Exercises at the Brevard Music Center.

Along with Dr. McDaris and the Board of Education chaired by Mrs. Tawny McCoy, alumnus Drey Owen welcomed all to a fully-packed Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium in between gentle bouts of rain. The combined Marine Corps Junior ROTC of Brevard and Rosman High Schools presented the colors.

Senior Sean Sprouse sang the national anthem, and student body president Jacob Voris addressed the audience as master of ceremonies for the day, followed by Salutatorian Avery McNeely and Valedictorian Azilee Grace Owen.

The Student Support office announced the award of numerous scholarships to graduating seniors. Tracie Owen read the commendation of the Lillian & Bud Cothran Scholarship Award given to Grace Owen, and counselor Sarah Shawver recounted a total of over $860,000 in scholarships awarded!

A musical interlude was offered first by Sean Sprouse singing "I Lived" by OneRepublic, then Peyton McCall singing and playing guitar, with Marcus Stamey on guitar in "Remember You Young," by Thomas Rhett.

Assistant Principal Patrick Chapman read the names of graduating seniors as they received their diplomas, with 78 seniors graduating in the Class of 2019.

Graduation Advisor Linda Peeples organized the ceremony, while junior marshals assisted graduates, faculty, and honored guests into and out of the auditorium. Chorus Director Sydney Bryant led the chorus in singing the Alma Mater to close the ceremony before the recessional.

Turn over your baby onto its stomach. This will help to build your baby’s neck, arm, shoulder, back, and stomach muscles.

Pull your baby up to sit down. This will strengthen its shoulder, core, arm, and back muscles.

Move your baby’s legs in a cycling motion to make its legs, hips, knees, and abs stronger.

Very interesting behaviour from a Black-Tailed Godwit. Really shows off the slightly curved bill.

Have Home Fitness Equipment. The best holiday present that you can give to yourself is a piece of home fitness equipment. You can use this to continue your exercise regimen at home even during the holidays. If you frequently go to the gym, you might find it hard to consistently go there in the month where the snow is heavy and time is less available. If you have home fitness equipment, it would be very convenient to do your routines even when the weather is very bad. You can start by buying a treadmill or an elliptical machine if you like.

This holiday season, don't let the cold weather and the plentiful treats make you heavier. You should guard yourself against the health risks that a sedentary lifestyle brings, especially if you are in the obese or overweight classification. You need to start getting active even if it's the time of the year where you are supposed to rest, eat, and be merry. Whether you choose to do household holiday chores, do no-equipment exercises, or purchase your own home fitness equipment, make sure that you continue to burn fat this December.
