Outside the restrooms at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is a little collection of coin-operated amusements, some familiar from San Francisco's Musee Mecanique. This one was new to us. The condemned man's head lights up orange when he's electrocuted.

Registan (a sandy place): this public square was the centre of Samarkand and the site of a large market. It came to be used as the place where royal proclamations were made, public executions held, and trade & commerce conducted. In the 15th and 17th centuries, madrasas were built on three sides of the square. This design, madrasas facing each other across a square or street, is called a kosh, a "double, pair", as the building of madrasas are opposite each other on the sides of the street or square.

Janid dynasty (Astrakhanids or Toqay Timurids) 1599-1745, were the last Genghisid descendants to rule Bukhara.

Patron: Yalangtush Bakhodur (also known as Zhalantos Bahadur or Yalangtush Bi Alchin) 1576-1656, from the Uzbek tribe Alchin, was the military governor of Samarkand who ruled at the behest of the Bukhara-based Janid dynasty.

Prisoners for execution would walk into the first room in the top left and be escorted to the third room to the right. A "doctor" would await the man and ask him to undress and remove any valuables for a physical. The doctor would then escort the man to the middle, rectangular room below the two small rooms above. The prisoner was told to stand against the wall for a height measurement. Behind the wall, another prisoner with a handgun waited for the small hole he was looking at to go from light to darkness. Once it did, he pulled the trigger. Soldiers would take his body to the large, square room to the right and remove any valuables from his body not previously removed (gold teeth, watches). Once complete, the soldiers would take the body to the crematorium in the room below.

LOL...actually this guy was never subject to becoming Thanksgiving Dinner...he and several other turkeys are the beloved pets of my friends Gladys and David and they would never let any harm come to them...they are part of their family! Many thanks to them for giving me the opportunity to have this fine fellow added to my photostream for Thanksgiving! : ) I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with them this afternoon!

Have a Large size helping of this guy if you will (plenty of detail)...and please pass the sweet potato casserole!!! ; )

If you are like so many who will be leaving tomorrow to visit far away family and friends for the holiday, I wish you safe travel and a wonderful, warm, and joyous Thanksgiving!!! : )

Simon turned to face them. They saw what he had just did. There was no getting around it.

Carolina gold rice, heavily roasted vegetables, black garlic, dill emulsion

Excellent execution on the rare slices of flat iron (with the deep garnet flesh peaking though its dark roasted shell); I enjoyed every bit of the dark roasted root vegetables that brought on this deep caramelization and almost char flavour to the dish. The pairing with the dill emulsion was deep, rounded and bold. It was almost masculine in personality despite the detail oriented care seen in the balance of textures and colours. I also found the grassy tannins from the parsley and nasturtium and they way they helped cut thought the rich dill emulsion and great steak flavours very pleasant.

Neither a light nor heavy dish. Like I noted above, a bold dish that simply claimed its presence and I was totally good with that.
