Mount Rushmore National Memorial is centered around a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota, United States. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum created the sculpture's design and oversaw the project's execution from 1927 to 1941 with the help of his son, Lincoln Borglum. Mount Rushmore features 60-foot (18 m) sculptures of the heads of four United States presidents: George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865). The memorial park covers 1,278.45 acres (2.00 sq mi; 5.17 km2) and is 5,725 feet (1,745 m) above sea level. South Dakota historian Doane Robinson is credited with conceiving the idea of carving the likenesses of famous people into the Black Hills region of South Dakota in order to promote tourism in the region. Robinson's initial idea was to sculpt the Needles; however, Gutzon Borglum rejected the Needles because of the poor quality of the granite and strong opposition from Native American groups. They settled on Mount Rushmore, which also has the advantage of facing southeast for maximum sun exposure. Robinson wanted it to feature American West heroes like Lewis and Clark, Red Cloud, and Buffalo Bill Cody, but Borglum decided the sculpture should have broader appeal and chose the four presidents. After securing federal funding through the enthusiastic sponsorship of "Mount Rushmore's great political patron" U.S. Senator Peter Norbeck, construction on the memorial began in 1927, and the presidents' faces were completed between 1934 and 1939. Upon Gutzon Borglum's death in March 1941, his son Lincoln Borglum took over as leader of the construction project. Each president was originally to be depicted from head to waist. Lack of funding forced construction to end on October 31, 1941. Mount Rushmore has become an iconic symbol of the United States, and it has appeared in works of fiction, as well as being discussed or depicted in other popular works. It attracts over two million visitors annually.
This is my entry for the final round of the IDSMO on imperiumdersteine.de (German LUG)
“One Movie, one MOC” was the topic.
Today there are 8 STAR WARS Movies. Each Movie a masterpiece and one-of-a-kind. Now it is time to celebrate the movies. The goal of this year’s final round is to catch one movie (episode 1-7, Rogue One) with your MOC.
Because there were no limits for the size of the MOC I decided to build something that I wanted to build for a long time. Until now there never was the right opportunity for this MOC but today I take advantage of a situation an build it:
The Petranaki-Arena on Geonosis, a location of STAR WARS Episode II – Attack of the Clones.
I didn’t chose the fight with the arena monsters, because what really impressed me when I watched the movie in cinema was the number of Jedi and lightsabers. After so many years of only talking about the Jedi or hearing them, now a huge number is in action to fight for the good…
Many thanks to Boba1980 for the translation
Greetings from Germany

It hit me when I watched our choir perform to their parents this evening, that I was indeed, leaving behind a part of my life that had spanned 3 years, and that the choir, Ben and Greg had been a significant part of it all. From deep within I was overwhelmed by sadness at letting go of something that had mattered to me for so long now, and distress over the uncertainty of how our choir would proceed from hereon, and anger that everything we had done to build them to what they are now, will be destroyed by neglect and mishandling by scatterbrained colleagues with no interest or respect for choral singing.
It wasn’t however, the heavy and helpless sadness I feel when I experience depression, but rather, a sweet sorrow that reminded me I have the emotional capacity to care deeply about others.
I was thankful for their quiet company after the furore of running a 2 day camp with energetic teenagers, as we sat looking out at the rain, and the school shrouded in darkness across the street. There had been management hiccups in the execution of this camp, but they did not compromise on the experience that the students had of it, and we accomplished everything we had set out to achieve when we decided to do this in the first place. It is a fitting end to my years here, and I’m happy, knowing that I made a difference to this lot, at least, and can move on with peace of mind.
THE EXECUTIONER
Björn had an axe imported from Denmark and decided the execution would take place on a hill on the main route by Pristapar. The district commissioner put a lot of effort into getting Natan's brother to take on the job of executioner.
THE EXECUTION
Friðrik wanted to see the axe, kissed it and said: "This is the blessed tool of justice, which I have earned for my sins. Praise be to God for it". His head was severed in a single blow and the axe remained stuck in the block. Two men were needed to remove it. Friðrik was nineteen years old.
AFTAKAN
The interior of a rare cello by English luthier Lockey Hill, completed shortly before his execution for horse theft in 1795. In this photo we can see the tool marks of the original maker, as well as new wood and repairs carried out through the centuries. Shot with a Lumix S1R and a Laowa Probe lens, 432 images at various focal distances have been stacked together to give a cavernous feel, as if the cello has become its own recital hall. Photographed whilst under restoration at the String Instrument Company, New Zealand.
With various cells and holdings all across the globe, Aku Corp often find themselves dealing with municipal gangs, whose loyalty is questionable and ulterior motives unknown. Corruption runs deep within these groups, most notoriously inside the Black Lotus, an organization whose reign boasts a sizeable portion of downtown Tokyo. It's use of various businesses as launderers and fronts for black market deals has grown exponentially, catching the eye of local Aku officers.
According to inside sources, the Black Lotus were looking to expand their minature mafia empire, which could most certainly challenge the interests of Aku. Naturally, they sought to eliminate this thorn in their side before it grew into a bushel that could no longer be sheared so easily. The chaos of this new era is far too great to afford any avoidable losses, so therefore the bug is set be squashed under the boot of domination. Power must be asserted, or will otherwise be taken possession of.
With all the heads of the Black Lotus clan rounded up, a ray of eerie red sunlight peeks it's way through the morning smog. As the fog breaks and the sky is revealed, disheveled are each of the former crimelords, now mere shells of men. A small price to pay to avoid what could have been for the Aku Corporation. After all we must be cunning and ruthless in this cruel era; this new World In Darkness.
This is my entry into the world in darkness contest. The schoolyard depicted is that from a concept art piece of the movie Akira.
Execution on Anoat | Dark Times RPG
“Many years ago during the Jedi Purge, Jedi Master Siuz Tregú led a group of clone troopers to the planet of Anoat. Orders were given to scout the dust ball and report any signs of life or movement from the Seps. That day however, was the day clones turned on the scum which were the Jedi and as we all know, they were taken out. Siuz, as the report says, was just the same. Another loose end.”
Here to show you a MOC me and Luca (luca_s_projects) worked on last weekend while I visited and attended DLA. This was built during some free time we had and did quite well. The MOC consists of the clones and Jedi as mentioned above, speeder design built by Luca and some terrain surrounded by a wall of bricks in DBG. Let us know what you think by commenting below. ~ Noah

ENGLISH:
The Colosseum or Coliseum also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre or Colosseo, is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of travertine limestone, tuff (volcanic rock), and brick-faced concrete, it was the largest amphitheatre ever built at the time and held 50,000 spectators. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum. Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in AD 72 and was completed in AD 80 under his successor and heir, Titus. Further modifications were made during the reign of Domitian (81–96).[4] These three emperors are known as the Flavian dynasty, and the amphitheatre was named in Latin for its association with their family name (Flavius).
The Colosseum could hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators during phases of its various renovations over the centuries, having an average audience of some 65,000; it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles (for only a short time as the hypogeum was soon filled in with mechanisms to support the other activities), animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine.
Although substantially ruined because of earthquakes, thieves, and stone-robbers, the Colosseum is still an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome and is listed as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. It is one of Rome's most popular tourist attractions and also has links to the Roman Catholic Church, as each Good Friday the Pope leads a torchlit "Way of the Cross" procession that starts in the area around the Colosseum. In 2018, it was the most popular tourist attraction in the world, with 7.4 million visitors.

“One night I dreamed that I painted a large American flag,” Johns has said of this work, “and the next morning I got up and I went out and bought the materials to begin it.” Those materials included three canvases that he mounted on plywood, strips of newspaper, and encaustic paint—a mixture of pigment and molten wax that has formed a surface of lumps and smears. The newspaper scraps visible beneath the stripes and forty-eight stars lend this icon historical specificity. The American flag is something “the mind already knows,” Johns has said, but its execution complicates the representation and invites close inspection. A critic of the time encapsulated this painting’s ambivalence, asking, “Is this a flag or a painting?”

The forensic psychologist Gustave M. Gilbert categorised Rudolf Höss as mentally normal with schizoid apathy and lack of emotion. During the interrogations, Gilbert described him as patient, matter-of-fact and dispassionate. Höss was characterised by his foresighted conscientiousness and diligence, always in the service of a higher authority. (Gustave M. Gilbert: Nuremberg Diary. Fischer, Frankfurt am Main, 1962)
On 16 April 1947, the former commandant of the Auschwitz extermination camp, Rudolf Höss, was executed by hanging from this gallows on the grounds of the Auschwitz I main camp in front of his former home adjacent to the camp. It is said that he did not understand until the end why he was called to account, as he had only carried out orders.

Europe - Italy - Italia - Rome - Roma - St. Angelo Bridge - Ponte Sant'Angelo & Castel Sant'Angelo - Castle of the Holy Angel - Towering cylindrical building in Parco Adriano - Commissioned by Roman Emperor Hadrian as mausoleum for himself & his family - Building used by popes as fortress & castle
Rome and its beautiful sites are featured in the new movie "Angels & Demons". I was in the city at the time of worldwide premier, however due to demanding shooting times (from 4am to 10PM) I had no time to go to see the movie. I have however enjoyed the city itself instead.
Castel Sant'Angelo (on the photo) is the final stop on Langdon's Illuminati trail. A giant fortified structure, Castel Sant'Angelo was first begun by Emperor Hadrian in AD 135 as his mausoleum and has been used subsequently as an armored stronghold, a prison and a papal residence, with a private walled passageway all the way to the Vatican. The Castel Sant'Angelo appeared in Dan Brown's 2000 novel Angels and Demons. The location was the secret lair for the Hassassin and was seen as the last existing church of the Illuminati. The book also emphasized the Passetto di Borgo as a secret way of getting from the Vatican to the castle. The castle appeared in the film Roman Holiday in a scene taking place on barges on the river below. In Puccini's opera, Tosca, the Castel is where Cavaradossi is held prisoner. After murdering Scarpia in his private room at the Palazzo Farnese, Floria Tosca goes to the Castel Sant' Angelo, safe conducts in hand, where her lover, Mario Cavaradossi is to be executed. She has been led to believe it will be a mock execution and is horrified to find her lover dead. Rather than be arrested by Scarpia's henchmen, she throws herself from the rooftop.

I saw max's build and felt like trying it out. It came out okay but I don't feel like I did it enough I'm probably going to try for a larger build over fall break in a few weeks.
Is this any better Mark?
A young Thai boy executes a double kick in a perfect manner to shatter two breaking boards at a taekwondo belt promotion test in Bangkok.
Well, the photographs of this series are probably nothing special, certainly not in terms of composition, or execution and accuracy. Yet I think or hope, there also is a place for this kind of thing in life (and on Flickr).
I feel these images have a subtleness, some kind of gentle in-the-moment-ness that I find very relaxing.
The halation and the thin DOF that comes with the wide aperture diverts the eye from too much detail, it simplifies and brings the muted vintage color palette in the foreground, which has some painterly quality to it.
I don't really get tired of looking at them, just enjoying the colors; but maybe it's just me, having the memories of taking them that provoke this type of emotional response?
Either way, perhaps some of you like staring at them too for a bit :)

“On the evening of May 4, 1886, a tragedy of international significance unfolded in Chicago’s Haymarket produce district. An outdoor meeting had been hastily organized by anarchist activists to protest the violent death of workers during a labor lockout the previous day in another area of the city.
Spectators gathered in the street as speakers addressed political, social and labor issues from atop a freight wagon from the adjacent factory. When approximately 175 policemen approached with an order to disperse the meeting, a dynamite bomb was thrown into their ranks.
The identity and affiliation of the person who threw the bomb have never been determined; this anonymous act had many victims. From the blast and panic that followed, seven policemen and at least four civilian bystanders lost their lives, but the victims of the incident were not limited to those who died as a direct result of the bombing. In the aftermath, those who organized and spoke at the meeting – and others who held unpopular political viewpoints – were arrested, unfairly tried and, in some cases, sentenced to death even though none could be tied to the bombing itself.
Meeting organizers George Engel and Adolf Fisher along with speakers August Spies and Albert Parsons were put to death by hanging. Activist Louis Lingg died violently in jail prior to his scheduled execution. Meeting speaker Samuel Fielden, and activists Oscar Neebe and Michael Schwab were sentenced to prison, but later pardoned in 1893 bu Illinois Governor John Peter Altgeld, citing the injustices of their trial.
Over the years, the site of the Haymarket bombing has become a powerful symbol for a diverse cross-section of people, ideals and movements. Its significance touches on the issues of free speech, the right of public assembly, organized labor, the fight for the eight hour work day, law enforcement, justice, anarchy and the right of every human being to pursue an equitable and prosperous life. For all, it is a poignant lesson in the rewards and consequences inherent in such human pursuits..”

From the Flagstaff Viewpoint on Fatham Hill near Newry you have a wonderful view over Carlingford Lough, the Mourne Mountains and Cooley Mountains. The name Flagstaff comes from the fact that flags used to be hoisted on the hill to announce the arrival of boats at Carlingford Louth. For some, the hill is also a place of longing. The Irish poet and outlaw Séamus Mór Mac Mhurchaidh is said to have said shortly before his execution: “If I could only be as a rowanberry on Fatham Hill”.
Dawn breaks the morning after yet another announcement to confirm the delay of the introduction of the new Mk5 stock on the Caledonian Sleeper Highlander service. With the Mk5s on that route now not likely to be introduced until the Autumn, the 35-40 year old Mk2s (pictured) and Mk3s will be kept running in full passenger service for another few months.
Likewise, the Class 90s which have worked Sleeper trains for three decades will perform one last stint before they are no longer able to work the trains anymore (due to ETS and coupling incompatibility).
Freightliner Class 90, 90049 - on hire to GB Railfreight for use on the sleeper services - works the Up Highlander (1M16) south through Winsford.

The present Hall, situated in Throgmorton Street, was bought from King Henry VIII in 1543 for the sum of 1,800 marks (approximately £1,200). This had been the house of Thomas Cromwell, Earl of Essex and Chief Minister to Henry, but had been forfeited to the King on Cromwell's execution in July 1540.
Destroyed by the Great Fire of 1666, Drapers’ Hall was rebuilt between 1667 and 1671 to designs by Edward Jarman. In 1772, it was again rebuilt after a fire which did considerable damage and, in the 1860s, the frontage was changed and the interior altered by Herbert Williams. It was later altered once more in 1898-9 by Sir Thomas Graham Jackson.
The Livery Hall was enlarged to its present size by Herbert Williams in the 1860s. The twenty-eight marble columns provide ideal spaces for the display of the Company’s collection of royal portraits including King William III by Sir Godfrey Kneller, George III by Sir Nathanial Dance and George IV by Sir Thomas Lawrence.
In 1901 the Company commissioned Herbert Draper, a neo-classical painter who had recently been awarded a gold medal by the Royal Academy, to create paintings for the Livery Hall ceiling panels. These were produced between 1903 and 1910.
The Company was at first uncertain whether the artist’s choice – scenes from The Tempest and A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream was appropriate but the artist persevered and completed the remaining space with representations of History, Science, Ethics and Literature.
The tradition that the members of the Company dine together dates from 1371 when it was ordained that 'the brotherhood shall hold their feasts wheresoever they shall agree in common'.
