Launched in 1944, the Becuna (SS-319) completed five wartime patrols in the Pacific Ocean. Becuna is similar to many submarines built in Philadelphia for the U.S. Navy.
Becuna is a BALAO-class submarine built in New London, CT. During World War II, "Becky" prowled the Pacific Ocean for Japanese ships, and is credited with sinking 3.5 Japanese merchant ships. Converted in 1951 to a Guppy 1A type with sophisticated radar and torpedo equipment including nuclear warheads, she is the only Guppy 1-A submarine on display.
Becuna's Cold War missions often found her in the Atlantic, trailing Soviet submarines with eavesdropping equipment aboard. She served in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and ended her long and distinguished career as a training submarine in Connecticut.
Becuna was decommissioned in 1969 and has been part of Independence Seaport Museum's Historic Ship Zone since 1996. Becuna is a National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2001, Becuna received the American Welding Society's Historical Welded Structure Award.
It's hard to shoot anything decent on a submarine. I hit my head, and had an amazing headache the rest of the day.

Members of the Maryland National Guard joined service members from across the United States, territories, and even from around the world, to work together to build the Boy Scouts of America’s newest camp site in Mt. Hope, W. Va., during their annual training, June 3-17.
The Maryland National Guard’s 244th Engineer Company and 243rd Engineer Haul Team participated in the Joint Task Force Summit, constructing the site of the BSA Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve, along with members of other states’ and territories’ Army and Air National Guard and Reserve components; Navy and Marine members; as well as their Bosnia-Herzegovina Armed Forces counterparts.

On 11thOctober 2018, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Greece (NRDC-GR) conducted the “DIADES of PELLA” Seminar at its premises. The Seminar was organized by JENG Branch and was attended by 15 representatives of other NATO HQs, Affiliated Formations and units as well as NRDC-GR personnel.
Deputy Commander of NRDC-GR, Major General Ivan ORTOMAROV, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the military engineering as well as the evaluation of Critical Infrastructure and its application in support of a Comprehensive Operational Process.
The aim of the Seminar was to improve knowledge, interoperability and communication within the Military Engineer (MILENG) NATO Community with regard to NRDC-GR’s role in the joint environment. Furthermore, during the Seminar, EX TRJR18 MILENG best practices and Lessons Identified were discussed and analyzed.
The Seminar was exceptional profitable, enhanced the NATO MILENG networking and common understanding with the sharing of information and knowledge while promoting the MILENG concepts and thinking in the frame of the “Comprehensive Approach”.

The Los Angeles District marked anniversary 237 of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during their annual event June 29.
Under the commander’s motto “Taking Care of People,” the District converged on the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale, Calif.
Engineer Day was the perfect venue to recognize teammates for their decades of service and accomplishments. This year, 78 District employees met the criteria of 10-to 45-years of service. In all, 28 employees were available to receive their award at the event.
GALVESTON, Texas (June 9, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District celebrated the Corps’ and U.S. Army’s 241st birthday with an awards ceremony to recognize the STEM Volunteer, Innovator, Employee, Engineer, Regulator and Supervisor of the Year, induct a USACE Galveston District retiree into the Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees as well as to honor staff for their contributions to the community, state and nation.
COHOES - Engineer Soldiers from Detachment 1, 1st Platoon, 1156th Engineer Company (Vertical) based in Kingston and some members of the 152nd Eng. Co. clear brush and debris from around Lock 15 on the outskirts of Cohoes on June 15.
The City of Cohoes requested the assistance of the N.Y. National Guard to assist in restoring and renovating this historic area in order to transform it into a bike and walking trail for the city residents. The area was once an extension of the Erie Canal.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, in coordination with the County of Ventura, is set to resume maintenance dredging near the entrance of Channel Islands Harbor.
#USACE estimates dredging about 2 million cubic yards of sand during the project. Material dredged from the entrance of the harbor is pumped across the harbor entrance, down Silver Strand Beach and deposited a mile away, just to the south of the Port of Hueneme.

Army Reserve Soldiers from the 479th Engineer Battalion, headquartered in Watertown, N.Y., conduct an air assault and village patrol in 97-degree heat at Fort Chaffee, Ark., Aug. 2, during Operation River Assault, a bridging training exercise involving Army Engineers and other support elements to create a modular bridge on the water across the Arkansas River at Fort Chaffee, Ark.
