Something different to see at Horsted Keynes station, a pause in our trip on the Bluebell Railway. We had not expected traction engines and steam rollers as well.

NS TripleCrown™ train 267 rolls west in the warm late afternoon sunlight on a beautiful October day. 267 is just west of Williamsport, Indiana. 267's crew is just about halfway through their trip from Peru, IN to Decatur, IL.

Compound steam engine driving the ventilation fan at Sutton Manor Colliery. Walker Brothers at Wigan made this engine and the fan to which it was attached in 1910. The cylinders of the 520hp engine were 23" and 36" diameter. At the time of my visit this engine was on standby only.

I gave the engine bay a good clean. 15 years old and 122,000 miles on the clock. I wasn't brave enough to use the power washer, I just sprayed some All Purpose Cleaner and dressed the plastics and rubber parts with some trim gel.

The second of two Norfolk Southern Triple Crown trains we encountered Saturday was train 268 seen here in the waning daylight at Johnsonville, Indiana. 267 connects Ft. Wayne, Indiana with BNSF's Argentine Yard in Kansas City, KS.

Today my HPAD is my car engine, this is because I'm having problems with it. I hope its an air block and not the head gasket on its way out, but its erratically overheating and the temp gauge is going up and down like a yo-yo. So this is my Pajero engine who seems to be poorly bad.

After only a few short years, the LS7 7.0L engine of the Corvette Z06 is a legend in its own time. Sure, it’s got more than 500 naturally aspirated horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, but the exceptional high-rpm performance and low-end grunt gives this 427-cubic-in combination the great tractability for which LS engines are known and the pulling power expected of a Big-Block with its historic displacement. The LS7 features a unique big-bore cylinder block that is anchored with a forged crankshaft, featherweight titanium connecting rods and durable, friction-coated pistons. But it’s the airflow capability of the LS7’s cavernous, CNC-ported heads that enables its tremendous power. Large-volume, straight-passage intake runners channel air directly through 2.20-inch titanium intake valves. The mixture is burned in large, 70cc combustion chambers and what’s left exits through 1.61-inch sodium-filled exhaust valves. And did we forget to mention the dry sump oiling system? This is a serious engine for serious enthusiasts. GM Performance Parts’ LS7 7.0L crate engine package includes a production style engine with the dry sump oil pan. You’ll need to supply the external oil supply and oil lines to the engine, but the rest of the assembly is fully dressed, including the manifold assembly with injectors and electronically controlled throttle body, and log-style exhaust manifolds.

A trip from Clifton Forge to Roanoke in 1963 to see the west yard FULL of dead "As" and "Ys, " and what would become "The Lost Engines of Roanoke." This is N&W 475 as gussied up for a Rail Days shindig in 1957. She went North to Strasburg in 1968, I think. The M-2 facing 475 is either 1151 or 1118, but I don't remember which.
