These are embroidered geek shirts I made for my neice River's first birthday. She grew out of the Joss Whedon onesies I made her last year.
This one is Serenity/Firefly themed. It's from a part in the show where River Tam (my niece is named River after this character) is seen trying to fix the bible with what she sees as inconsistencies. Book (a reverend) explains that you can't fix faith, it fixes you. This quote is perfect and I had to stitch it.
I designed these embroidered bracelets/cuffs to be sewn completely in the hoop. The button hole is stitched out in the hoop too. All you gotta do is sew on a button at the end.
I've been wearing them like crazy and offer them in my etsy shop.

This is a little dog that I embroidered to use in an ABC book I am making. I think that he is just too cute.
I found an old embroidered linen tablecloth (130 x 160 cm) from second-hand store. I was surprised when I saw at home that piece of flower-chaplet is not finished. Needle and yarn was sticked in the fabric too!!! The original grey-brown-ivory colours are so calm and elegant, but finally I desided not to try to copy the original colours. I made the last piece of embroidery more colourful. Don't you feel that life in the past (more than 30 years ago) was black-and-white (like in old photos) and present (your life) is more variegated?

Rahima (left) - a master embroider - has been supported by AKF to set up her own business. AKF provided Rahima with the initial materials to get the business running. She now employs 10 women who help clean the wool, prepare the dyes and are learning the craft. Her pieces are sold in local markets and exhibited in Khujand in northern Tajikistan. Rahima learnt the craft from her mother (right). Her daugter is in the middle. In Murghab, AKF supports several groups like these. Not only do these women earn an income through these activities but they are also helping reshaping the role of women and their perceived value within their communities.

I intended for this to look like a tattoo sleeve, but on a traditional blue blazer. I liked the juxtaposition of the hard core tattoo style with the preppy lifestyle associated with blue blazers. This was done for my studio arts class in high school.

The embroidered clothing has been a very coveted form of clothing which the women of Pakistan like very much. The SME is a major source of supply for these kind of clothing and which made at various in-house facilities and where the workers prepare these stuff. The development of clothing involves great hardship and very minutely the activity is performed by the KARIGARS (skilled workers) of this industry.
An old missal for rituals in a church has embroidered drawings instead of painted ones. It's the first book like this I've seen in many years working in the Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid (see large).
Un antiguo misal de iglesia tiene los dibujos bordados en vez de pintados. Es la primera vez que veo algo asà en los muchos años que trabajo en la Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid (ver en grande)
