From an old, long out-of-print Italian book on beautiful monogram embroidery. It includes some of the best examples of this type of work I've ever seen. Many of these pieces were ebroidered for royal and titled families over the last century, hence the use of crowns in quite a lot of the work. The text is in italian.

The Scottish Room was dedicated in 1938 and built to resemble a 17th century Scottish Great Hall. The decoration pays tributes to ancient Highlands clans, heroes and the Scots' struggles for freedom. Above the fireplace is a portrait of Scotland's most famous son and poet Robbie (Robert) Burns. Standing proud above the mantle are bronze statues of national heroes William Wallace and Robert the Bruce (King Robert I).

The blackboard cover and other panels throughout the rooms are caved with names of famous Scots such as Bell, Knox, Hume, Livingstone, Boswell and Watt.

The chandeliers are based on an iron coronet found on the battleground of Bannochburn in 1314 as Robert the Bruce defeated the English King Edward II. The plaster ceiling features Scotland's national flower the thistle.

The hand-embroidered draperies open to to reveal stained glass windows of the Coats of Arms of four Scottish universities: Glasgow, St. Andrews, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

The Nationality Rooms are located in the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning building. The rooms are gifts to the university from Pittsburgh's ethnic communities. Each room has been designed to represent the culture of the nation represented. The rooms function as university classrooms and are not open all the time for the public to explore particularly during school terms. Visitors are advised to contact the University for opening times and guided tours.

The very first Nationality Room opened in 1938, and new rooms are still being planned now. There are currently 30 Nationality Rooms at the Cathedral of Learning.

I can't believe it didn't win a prize.

Embroidered owl for a new tote I'm making.

By now can you tell I like golden stuff??

After Christmas, things went on sale. I bought two things: an SD memory card for my camera, and this 100% embroidered silk fabric. Normally at CAD $40 (USD $30) a meter, it was 55% off at $18 (USD $13.60) a meter. I bought two meters.

I intend to use it to cover an open bookshelf to prevent the books and DVDs from getting dusty all the time.

This is for me - when I just need keys, phone and cash (my other bag has just about everything in it). It's a simple across the body bag featuring hand embroidered flowers and the names of the months.

From a design in the book Doodle Stitching. I used felt for the background and beads instead of French knots, for sparkle and to use up some beads.

Split stitch embroidered words on a blanket teacosy. Do you know where the phrase is from?

I redid the photo so it would show up clearer.

Hand embroidered tray cloth upcycled into a fresh white hat. Lined with linen and the embroidered cloth feels like linen too.
