From an old, out-of-print french book on monogram embroidery. I can't even remember where I got this book. I must have picked it up when in Paris in the 1990s.
made this wedding cake for one of my former segment producers. the idea for the design came from him! i instantly fell in love with the embroidered look which was surprisingly not as difficult as it looks :D the actual cake should've had a flower bouquet on it, but it's not in the picture (obviously, haha)
Just finished stitching this one. I love how it turned out! We're bringing these with us to the Maker Faire, and look for DIY kits on my Makers Market shop.
I used the Croquet Dress pattern from Oliver and S and the sleeves from Dana's First Day Dress pattern. And I added a lot of hand embroidery on the yoke and shoulders!
I stitched one of E's pictures for her preschool teacher.

The Scottish Room was dedicated in 1938 and built to resemble a 17th century Scottish Great Hall. The decoration pays tributes to ancient Highlands clans, heroes and the Scots' struggles for freedom. Above the fireplace is a portrait of Scotland's most famous son and poet Robbie (Robert) Burns. Standing proud above the mantle are bronze statues of national heroes William Wallace and Robert the Bruce (King Robert I).
The blackboard cover and other panels throughout the rooms are caved with names of famous Scots such as Bell, Knox, Hume, Livingstone, Boswell and Watt.
The chandeliers are based on an iron coronet found on the battleground of Bannochburn in 1314 as Robert the Bruce defeated the English King Edward II. The plaster ceiling features Scotland's national flower the thistle.
The hand-embroidered draperies open to to reveal stained glass windows of the Coats of Arms of four Scottish universities: Glasgow, St. Andrews, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

The Nationality Rooms are located in the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning building. The rooms are gifts to the university from Pittsburgh's ethnic communities. Each room has been designed to represent the culture of the nation represented. The rooms function as university classrooms and are not open all the time for the public to explore particularly during school terms. Visitors are advised to contact the University for opening times and guided tours.

The very first Nationality Room opened in 1938, and new rooms are still being planned now. There are currently 30 Nationality Rooms at the Cathedral of Learning.

After Christmas, things went on sale. I bought two things: an SD memory card for my camera, and this 100% embroidered silk fabric. Normally at CAD $40 (USD $30) a meter, it was 55% off at $18 (USD $13.60) a meter. I bought two meters.
I intend to use it to cover an open bookshelf to prevent the books and DVDs from getting dusty all the time.
Handmade Goddess doll is made from hand painted and embellished repurposed cotton duck cloth salvaged from a vintage table cloth. This doll has been beaded and hand embroidered in meandering red cotton stitches and seed beads. Her center holds a shisha mirror held on in an non traditional shisha stitch.
