Temple of Olympian Zeus - Athens - Greece
The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Greek: Ναός του Ολυμπίου Διός, Naós tou Olympíou Diós), also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greek capital Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman period the temple, which included 104 colossal columns, was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.
The temple's glory was short-lived, as it fell into disuse after being pillaged during a barbarian invasion in 267 AD, just about a century after its completion. It was probably never repaired and was reduced to ruins thereafter. In the centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, it was extensively quarried for building materials to supply building projects elsewhere in the city. Despite that, a substantial part of the temple remains today, notably sixteen of the original gigantic columns, and it continues to be part of a very important archaeological site of Greece.
The temple is located approximately 500 m (0.31 mi) south-east of the Acropolis, and about 700 m (0.43 mi) south of the center of Athens, Syntagma Square. Its foundations were laid on the site of an ancient outdoor sanctuary dedicated to Zeus. An earlier temple had stood there, constructed by the tyrant Peisistratus around 550 BC. The building was demolished after the death of Peisistratos and the construction of a colossal new Temple of Olympian Zeus was begun around 520 BC by his sons, Hippias and Hipparchos. They sought to surpass two famous contemporary temples, the Heraion of Samos and the second Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. Designed by the architects Antistates, Callaeschrus, Antimachides and Phormos, the Temple of Olympian Zeus was intended to be built of local limestone in the Doric style on a colossal platform measuring 41 m (134 ft 6 in) by 108 m (354 ft 4 in). It was to be flanked by a double colonnade of eight columns across the front and back and twenty-one on the flanks, surrounding the cella.
Corinthian columns detail
The work was abandoned when the tyranny was overthrown and Hippias was expelled in 510 BC. Only the platform and some elements of the columns had been completed by that point, and the temple remained in that state for 336 years. The temple was left unfinished during the years of Athenian democracy, apparently, because the Greeks thought it was hubris to build on such a scale. In his treatise Politics, Aristotle cited the temple as an example of how tyrannies engaged the populace in great works for the state (like a white elephant) and left them no time, energy or means to rebel.[1]
It was not until 174 BC that the Seleucid king Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who presented himself as the earthly embodiment of Zeus, revived the project and placed the Roman architect Decimus Cossutius in charge. The design was changed to have three rows of eight columns across the front and back of the temple and a double row of twenty on the flanks, for a total of 104 columns. The columns would stand 17 m (55 ft 9 in) high and 2 m (6 ft 7 in) in diameter. The building material was changed to the expensive but high-quality Pentelic marble and the order was changed from Doric to Corinthian, marking the first time that this order had been used on the exterior of a major temple. However, the project ground to a halt again in 164 BC with the death of Antiochus. The temple was still only half-finished by that stage.
Serious damage was inflicted on the partly built temple by Lucius Cornelius Sulla's sack of Athens in 86 BC. While looting the city, Sulla seized some of the incomplete columns and transported them back to Rome, where they were re-used in the Temple of Jupiter on the Capitoline Hill. A half-hearted attempt was made to complete the temple during Augustus' reign as the first Roman emperor, but it was not until the accession of Hadrian in the 2nd century AD that the project was finally completed around 638 years after it had begun.

Venus is a Roman goddess, whose functions encompassed love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory. In Roman mythology, she was the ancestor of the Roman people through her son, Aeneas, who survived the fall of Troy and fled to Italy. Julius Caesar claimed her as his ancestor. Venus was central to many religious festivals, and was revered in Roman religion under numerous cult titles.
The Romans adapted the myths and iconography of her Greek counterpart Aphrodite for Roman art and Latin literature. In the later classical tradition of the West, Venus became one of the most widely referenced deities of Greco-Roman mythology as the embodiment of love and sexuality. She is usually depicted nude in paintings. Source Wikipedia

This is Yester Castle darkly, dimly and dramatically figured. It was the stronghold and home of Sir Hugo de Giffard, also Jiffard, a 13th-century Scottish Baron. He is remembered in legend as the, “Wizard of Yester.” Yester Castle was built around 1267 with Sir Hugo acting like a diabolical King Solomon and calling spirits to build his stone works for him. If instead of the diabolical focus Sir Hugo was more inline with the God of Solomon then his demons may have been a gifted labour source for his good works. Some have said that he was in pact with the devil and that his source of amazing conjuring deeds was all infernal. His fortification is noted as being assembled by an army of hobgoblins. The best remains of the castle ruins are named as either Bohall, or Hobgoblin Hall, also The Goblin Ha’. This Goblin Hall may have been constructed by a workforce keen to protect their stone crafting secrets and possibly also French in origin. The language barrier and insular ways could have given rise to the workers been seen as demons doing Sir Hugo’s bidding.
Bohall as an Irish name is said to derive from, “baigell,” which meant, “having profitable pledges,” Sir Hugo seems to have been the embodiment of someone that is noted as having prospered by having profitable pledges. Most likely because it still stands as the only roofed section of Yester Castle it is suggested that the Goblin Ha’ is where Sir Hugo practised dark arts such as necromancy and making pledges, pacts with infernal spirits. The Hall is even stated to have an entrance to Hell. The design of the structure that still exists gives a much clearer indication of the Hall as the place to bring in animals at times of siege in lower section and to have above the animal stalls floors for two legged occupation with the lowest tunnelled into the bedrock being a vital access to water and not an entrance to the underworlds. Magic often features in Legend in ways that can quickly come undone if you look closely at the weave of Folklore, and investigate into the weft as that which is seen as superb for enchanting stories is not the best factual material for histories.
I hope that Sir Hugo being of either Giffard, or Jiffard has no overbearing influence on the Giff versus Jiff debate? That is usually the .gif versus the .jif at least in pronunciation.

Some good ol' Canadian Rockies for you today. This area has to be one of my favorites out of all the places in the world I have yet seen. I could wax long regarding everything that enchants me about these mountains but for today I just wanted to share the sense of immensity that so caught me in this scene. Standing on the edge of an empty highway, looking across this wide valley at mountains that looked immense but somehow still managed to hide just how big they were until you noticed the forests at their base. I am used to looking at landscapes with tiny little people, scurrying across it like ants, but seeing trees rendered with the same treatment caught me in this moment. And these weren't even the tallest mountains in the area, nor were they isolated peaks. These craggy behemoths stretch for hundreds of miles like leviathans of rock and stone.

We might meet this Love in any of her creaturely embodiments. In her elusive excess, she ignites a desire that drives beyond our grasping ego. “For this reason I will do my best,” wrote Hadewijch. The love-process morphs power into actions of care, of justice, of celebration. Of poetry. These are all actualizations of the possible. They express the infinite desire for incarnation. But also, still and often, does our most carnal desire. The divine Eros may be transcendently irreducible to sexuality: but after all it calls forth the immanent life of the creation by means of sex. Our creaturely carnality cries out in and beyond sex for disclosure in love, not the closure of possession. “A body that is in love,” writes Luce Irigary, a contemporary philosopher who hails from the same region as Hadewijch, “does not endure being fixed as an object.” 18

His eyes, twinkling like two agate beads, gaze towards the distant horizon, where the promises of a new day loom. His open beak, a window to his soul, releases a dawn symphony. Not just a passing chirp, it's a story being told, a cry of love, a hymn to life, tearing apart the stillness of dawn.As the embodiment of nature's spirit, she carries within her heart a song of hope, casting it into the ether of the universe, a reminder of the hidden beauty of life and the power of sounds that elevate existence. It is an echo of the forest, a whisper of the river, and a cry from the wilderness, awakening the soul and igniting the senses.
The Pipes of Pan is an oil-on-canvas by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. Painted in 1923 during Picasso's classical period, the painting depicts two statuesque men of mythological origins. Frequently acknowledged to be his cornerstone work during this era, the painting makes use of a large canvas and a classical color palette that are acutely reminiscent of the ancient world. The subjects which Picasso chooses to explore within this work– male Greek youth, musical pipes, as well as the Mediterranean setting– all hark back to classical ancient art.
This work was painted at the crux of Picasso's classical period from 1919 to 1929, in which he was greatly intrigued by classical art. At the time that he had painted The Pipes of Pan, Picasso was traveling extensively in Italy, and consequently drew inspiration for this painting in the Greco-Roman art he found there. His admiration for such is evident in the pensive and motionless way he portrays his subjects, as well as the tactile yet unembellished background. Additionally, the subjects themselves are Greek by nature– the pipes held by the figure on the right are a clear reference to the pipes of Pan, the personified Greek god of “life in the periphery”– who essentially functions as the embodiment of peripheral attitude (free-ranging, and lustful but frustrated) and pastoral life. The setting of the painting, too, is evidently Mediterranean by its sunny blue background.
There has been known controversy in the past regarding the so-called “true nature” of the subject for this particular painting. At the era of this painting, Picasso, who was deep into his fascination with classical art, met Sara Murphy in 1921. She was a beautiful and wealthy American expatriate who became flirtatiously involved with Picasso, their relations leading all the way up to the conception of this painting. Infrared photographs of The Pipes of Pan taken in the 90s revealed an initial composition that included four total figures. Many art scholars believe that one figure was to be Venus, depicted as Sara, and that another figure was to be Mars, depicted as Picasso. However, a possible reason why this initial idea was scrapped was because Picasso's infatuation came to a head– perhaps Sara rejected him, and so he erased her from the painting composition.

Elizabeth I – The Virgin Queen (1533-1603) - Part of the Regal Twelve series.
http://alexiasinclair.com/the-regal-twelve
The daughter of King Henry VIII, Elizabeth was born into royalty at Greenwich Palace near London. Henry, hoping for a male heir, declared Elizabeth illegitimate, accused her mother of adultery and had her beheaded. Succeeding her sister to the throne, Elizabeth ruled with the knowledge that effective rule depended upon popular support. Advisors urged the queen to marry to strengthen ties with allies and to produce heirs to the throne, yet Elizabeth chose instead to marry England. Strategically aligning herself with the catholic figure the Virgin Mary, Elizabeth secured a shift of power through her embodiment of symbolic virginity. Purified, she was transformed from an illegitimate protestant woman to ‘the virgin queen’. Her purification began with a physical transformation by cutting off her hair, whitening her skin and adorning herself in pearls; symbols of purity and wealth.

Sacré-Cœur Basilica is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1871 Franco-Prussian War and the socialist Paris Commune of 1871 crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular vision of a loving and sympathetic Christ.
The Sacré-Cœur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

Beneath a crown of roses and firelit jewels, she reigns — the Ruby Veil, sovereign of allure and silence. Her gaze pierces through webs of silver and scarlet, each gem a secret, each thread a vow. The air hums with the perfume of roses and the whisper of danger, as her crimson lips gleam like a promise never meant to be kept. She is the embodiment of gothic divinity — fragile, fierce, and infinitely timeless.

Today, May 1, 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the start of Amtrak. Back in 1971, few would have expected it to last 5 years, let alone 50. One year ago, it's future was very much in doubt. As P42 42, the Saluting Our Veterans heritage unit, made its first voyage on the westbound Southwest Chief after being mothballed for a few years, the gloomy day was very symbolic of the times. With it's already slim budget having been repeatedly slashed due to years of political wrangling, and the nation locked down in the midst of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, Amtrak's revenue tanked as ridership fell precipitously. But if ever there was an embodiment of the "Little Engine That Could," Amtrak soldiered on in the brutal year that was 2020. It was forced to embargo some short distance trains indefinitely, and cut almost all of its long distance trains to tri-weekly service.
One year later, on it's 50th birthday, Amtrak's future looks the brightest it has ever been. With a new infrastructure bill on the horizon, it will finally be able to replace it's aging fleet of locomotives and worn out passenger equipment. So the bright, sunny day today was appropriately symbolic of it's future. And just as symbolic would be cracked, dented, and worn out lead locomotive P42 13, not just of how brutal the past year has been, but how brutal the past 50 years have been.
Miss & Mister Elegance 2025 – Fourth Challenge: SINFUL CREATURES
For the fourth and final challenge before the grand finale, the contestants of the Miss & Mister Elegance 2025 contest were faced with their most daring transformation yet: embodying one of the seven deadly sins paired with a corresponding animal. This challenge called for a blend of creativity, boldness, and storytelling, as participants were tasked to personify their chosen sin through an outfit inspired by its associated creature.
Whether it was the cunning Fox of Greed, the fiery Dragon of Anger, or the slithering Snake of Envy, each contestant had to bring their vision to life with elegance and flair, captivating the judges and leaving a lasting impression. From imaginative styling to expressive poses, this challenge pushed the contestants to channel the raw essence of their sin and the spirit of their animal in a way that was both artistic and unforgettable.
Here’s how I approached the challenge in my own interpretation...
My Descripiton:
Mister Elegance 2024, Jayden, embodies the sin of Greed, inspired by Ban from Seven Deadly Sins.
Once a rogue who sought immortality, he was driven by an insatiable hunger for everything he could never have—power, wealth, and a love lost to time. His quest for eternal life led him to steal from gods, his heart forever longing for what remained just out of reach.
With the sharp wit and cunning of a fox, Jayden represents Greed as a force that twists desires into something dark and all-consuming. Holding a cupcake in his hand, he reveals how even the simplest pleasures can be distorted by obsession.
He is the embodiment of endless hunger, chasing after the unattainable, never knowing when to stop. Like Ban, he is both a tragic hero and a relentless force, driven by the fire of his own insatiable desires.

Some families ended up here almost accidentally. Some inherited the mausoleums that they now live in from their great-grandparents. Others came from the provinces and couldn’t make enough money to live in the big city. In all cases, they’re basically families with nowhere else to go.
The people who live here manage to extract livelihoods from the dead. Teenagers carry coffins for 50 Filipino pesos—about 50 American cents. Children collect scrap metal, plastic, and other garbage to sell. Their fathers are employed to repair and maintain tombs while their mothers maintain the house, which could be the family mausoleum or the mausoleum of their employers. Rent-free shanties are wedged between or on top of crypts.
Unlike many of my countrymen, I don’t see these folks as the destitute bottom-rung of society. I see them as living embodiments of the raw spirit of the Filipino people, a nation so tough it can and has survived under any sort of hardship.
Don't tell me I'll never see this future. “Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible," said the illustrious Lord Kelvin. . .
The heart of nature and the embodiment of life as a whole
Built for the Biocup 2022 preliminary round with the theme nature
“A structure not supremely interesting, not logical, not … commandingly beautiful, but grandly curious and superbly rich. … If it had no other distinction it would still have that of impressive, immeasurable achievement … a supreme embodiment of vigorous effort.” (Henry James)
I love tulips better than any other spring flower;
they are the embodiment of alert cheerfulness and tidy grace, and next to a hyacinth look like a wholesome,
freshly tubbed young girl beside a stout lady whose every movement weighs down the air with patchouli.
Their faint, delicate scent is refinement itself;
and is there anything in the world more charming than the sprightly way they hold up their little faces to the sun.
I have heard them called bold and flaunting, but to me they seem modest grace itself,
only always on the alert to enjoy life as much as they can and not be afraid of looking the sun or anything else above them in the face.

Stainless steel
Living Arts Centre grounds
The grounds of the Living Arts Centre are home to a three-part narrative installation by Canadian artist Stacey Spiegel. These sculptures (beginning with Book Wall, then Pool of Knowledge, and ending with Data Wall) all address the notion of “change” in society and the economy, from an industrial age to digital age.
Book Wall is a large stainless steel sculpture, depicting stacked books. The artwork is a visual embodiment of knowledge in the 20th century and an homage to the deliberate study and reading of books, encyclopedias, periodicals and newspaper.

This is a photo I’ve wanted to capture for a while but snow cover at this ruin which sits at around 650ft above sea level, usually means the valley itself is snowed in, making road access a hair-raising affair. It also means that snow tends to thaw away quite quickly which gives very limited opportunities to visit in conjunction with these icy conditions. To overcome these problems, I parked the car up in Sulby and actually hiked in along the full length of the frozen valley, something I’ve never experienced before.
It was well worth the effort as I was rewarded with a treasure trove of photography opportunities largely all to myself and I spent a good 6 hours walking around all the sites in the area. With this shot I wanted to convey the contrast between the warmth of the sun’s rays on the tholtan stones, set against the deep cold of the surrounding hills. Experiences like this are the embodiment of precisely why I love landscape photography so much! What a spectacular day it was! ❄️

Spring Couture fashion is an inspirational reminder of our innate Biophilic connection to nature. Spring is a time of new beginnings, new life, the watering of our spirits, and unfolding the petals of our hearts.
To convey this embodiment of Spring, Miss SL ♛ Portugal adorns a Sweet Thing Duchess Gown with vibrant, multi-colored rose petal accoutrements and Nature's Ornamented Crown composed of flowering vines and berries. Integral to her color scheme, she incorporates her country's national floral color of lavender which blossoms in huge fields across her country in the Spring. She mixes bright lavender roses with vibrant hues of pinks, greens, yellows and teals in the petals, daffodils, berries, vines, and fabrics of her outfit.
Miss SL ♛ Portugal complements her gown with a white floral petal shawl by Gold; Arwen Secret Garden bell sleeves by Irresistible; Cassie hair by Exile, Bliensen + MaiTai Chirp earrings, Candy Doll Deya White Wedges, and Vaak animesh Hummingbirds, attracted by the fragrant flowers, accompany Miss SL ♛ Portugal.

With their blazing energy, orange roses are the embodiment of desire and enthusiasm. Orange roses often symbolize passion and excitement and are an expression of fervent romance.
"You do not become good by trying to be good, but by finding the goodness that is already within you, and allowing that goodness to emerge."
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth
Oscar is the embodiment of the type of goodness Tolle talks about. He knows his soothing and calming powers and he just gives generously. If we trusted in the power of goodness in humans and knew that it was an unquantifiable and never ending source, more of us could be like dogs.

The writer’s fingers hovered above the keys of the old typewriter, the blank page in its carriage a stark reminder of his creative drought. Words, usually so eager to spill onto the page, now clung stubbornly to the recesses of his mind. Then she appeared, a midnight muse sculpted from shadow and moonlight. Her presence was a hushed symphony, a subtle shift in the room’s energy that tugged at the frayed edges of his focus. The elegant line of her silhouette against the desk, the soft glow of the lamplight tracing the delicate curve of her neck, the almost imperceptible sway of her hips – each detail a distracting line of poetry, a siren’s call to his writer’s heart. The papers scattered by the wind from the open window mirrored the chaos blooming in his thoughts, his ideas swirling like leaves in a whirlwind, all drawn irresistibly to the captivating form before him. She was the living embodiment of the story he yearned to write, a flesh-and-blood metaphor threatening to overshadow the very words he struggled to find.

Hands are the embodiment of the strength of tenderness. The boat, born in the heart of the sea, displays all the strength of the fishermen in the Portuguese waters. Every movement, every gesture, bears witness to these men's daily struggle against the wild elements. Their rough hands tell stories of hard work, of sacrifices made to feed their families and their community. In every grip of the net, in every rise of the sea, the essence of their indomitable character and their intimate connection with the surrounding ocean is evident.
Enamored with his masculinity for 8 years and counting,
