this is not how i originally intended to go out on 365, but after spending the day thinking it over i've decided that this alternate photo is actually perfect. first, let me say that my initial plan was to photograph myself at the top of the art musuem steps in the pose that made rocky balboa an icon. i couldn't actually imagine a better ending. after all, most of my photos (self portraits and otherwise) are intended as one long love poem to the city and people of philadelphia. the rocky shot not only incorporated my love for the city but other themes i've pursued in my work (e.g., the grit of the illa, the determination of the underdog, the beauty and poetry of boxing... not to mention that i regularly run by the art museum). when i woke up this morning, the sky was clear and i knew i was gonna get a great sunrise shot. sweet perfection.
the first sign things weren't gonna go as planned was when i emerged from the house at 6am and disrupted a drug deal taking place outside my door. one of the dealers followed me in his car a few blocks... on the plus side, the surge of adrenaline was a nice way to start the day. the next sign of trouble was at the museum. i had completely and totally forgotten about the macy's thanksgiving day parade which stages--you guessed it--on the art museum steps. i tried unsuccessfully to get a press pass. ultimately, i went around the museum and snuck past a police barricade to get to the steps but once there, the police refused to let me take the photo. they were quite sweet about the whole thing... it was just that hundreds of children dressed as elves were on the verge of flooding the stairs. they were looking out for me (*coughs*).
i thought about just having them arrest me and photographing that, but it's already been done and by others in 365.
i ended up in a mild state of panic and that's when i saw the light hitting the columns at the top of the art museum stairs. and then i had an idea...
what if me and okp appeared in a photo together?
as a social scientist, one of the things about flickr that i find fascinating is how identity is negotiated in online versus face to face relationships. a number of my f2f friends and family lurk on flickr and we inevitably end up having conversations (and sometimes debates) over the extent to which OKP is consistent with the ways that they know me. some regard OKP as the embodiment of my identity, others argue OKP is, at best, a exaggerated element of my personality. several of my flickr friends have raised similar questions... i can remember both Hryck and MER (among others) noting that i was likely a good bit more vulnerable than my self portraits would otherwise suggest.
in reflecting on 365 and the portraits, it occurs to me that there are elements of truth in all of this. on one level, it is absolutely the case that my identity is broader than what is represented on my stream. in my early days on flickr (and well before i started 365), i showed (albeit rarely) myself in vulernable moments. i don't do that anymore. i can remember one shot for 365 in which i spent much of the day crying about a personal crisis but what i ended up portraying for the photograph was my fist. ha, i'd kinda like to think that's the philly in me.
in addition to not showing vulnerability, i rarely photograph myself laughing. the irony is that in my waking life, i'm laughing most of the time. for whatever reason, i have a tough time smiling naturally for a self portrait. in the ones that i've done it, it's usually because mr. OKP is in the room. he always knows how to make me smile.
so, yeah, i'm broader than the self portraits. at the same time, i don't regard OKP as an exaggeration per se... OKP is my essence in the sense that i've been able to express my creativity, my sense of humor, my politics, my aesthetics, and my body in ways that i can't at work or in some f2f relationships.
so, there ya have it... this is about as close to a personal disclosure as you're gonna get on this stream...
and, by way of closing... let me say thanks to all of you (that includes my lurking friends & family as well). i look forward to your daily witticisms and your photos. you regularly inspire me and, perhaps more importantly, you make me laugh. what more could a girl want?
oh, right. stilettos.
Apache Crown Dance or Gaan Dance (also called Mountain Spirit, Crown Dance, Devil Dance) is an Apache ceremonial dance that is intended to protect the community from disease and enemies. Dancers became "the embodiment of the Mountain Spirits (the Gaan)"; they wear special masks and wands during the dance. The dance is performed by a group of five members, one of them a "clown", each having his specific role.

In the heart of an ancient glade bathed in eternal spring, the Sylvan Flamekeeper stands as a guardian of balance between fire and bloom. Her cascading golden hair flows like silk spun from sunlight, winding through the cherry blossom-laden air and brushing the petals that unfurl in her wake. Draped in an emerald gown embroidered with golden leaves, she radiates harmony, a living embodiment of nature’s most radiant magic. Beside her, sacred flame pools flicker gently — not to burn, but to bless. The waterfalls whisper her name as the forest breathes in rhythm with her presence, eternal and divine.
What the international critics say about this Masterpiece:
"The Painted Muse" is a fictive masterpiece celebrated for its ethereal beauty and emotional depth. This iconic portrait captures a woman of serene yet powerful presence, her gaze both tender and commanding. Her hair is intricately woven with wildflowers, symbolizing natural grace and fleeting beauty. Across her face are bold strokes of pigment. These marks are not random—they echo tribal ritual, artistic rebellion, and spiritual transformation.
Painted in a style that merges realism with impressionistic flair, "The Painted Muse" blurs the line between subject and symbol. She is not merely a woman; she is the embodiment of inspiration—part nature, part art, wholly human. Her expression invites the viewer into a silent dialogue about identity, creativity, and the power of feminine force.
Often interpreted as a modern allegory for artistic freedom and inner beauty, the portrait has become a symbol in galleries (real and imagined) for those seeking meaning in self-expression. The balance of delicate floral softness with bold, unapologetic paint makes "The Painted Muse" a timeless visual poem.

This isn’t just latex; it’s a second skin that molds to every curve, reflecting moonlight like armor from a distant dystopia, whispering secrets of cabaret nights, avant-garde couture, and dominion over the senses.

The high-neck mesh panel teases, revealing just enough, while the strategic boning details at the bust give a nod to vintage corsetry—an echo of Victorian restraint, reimagined for the untamed. A chain-link belt cinches the waist, a deliberate contrast of hard and soft, of submission and control. But it’s the gold spike embellishments along the bodice that elevate this look from high fashion to unspoken desire. A subtle yet striking nod to BDSM influences, they evoke a sense of dominance, an unyielding presence that commands attention.

Parts of the roof of the mosque in the garden of the castle of Schwetzingen. The mosque was built in 1780. It is not a copy of a "real" mosque. The building is a creative embodiment of the 18th-century idea of the Orient.
The symbol of a wolf tattoo on a woman represents the physical, emotional and spiritual embodiment of being at one with herself and all life, as she owns herself.
The symbol has also been associated with fertility dating back to ancient matriarchal societies, reflecting the maternal aspect of the female psyche in its many forms.
Cliff Howlett has recreated this embodiment masterfully with his latest release of the [HDesign] Wolf V (Back Tattoo).
This new [HDesign] Wolf V (Back Tattoo) comes available in 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90% variant graduations.

The sea is everything.
It covers Seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the `Living Infinite,′ as one of your poets has said.

Pura Jagatnatha (=Temple of the Lord of the World), Denpasar, Bali. On the rainy day of our visit, there was only this small concession selling water and orange juice to slake our thirst. They were the embodiment of relaxation; hence this photo.
The temple is merely 50 years old (1953) although it gives the impression of being highly venerable. It is quite large, which is fitting for Ida Batara Sanghyang Widhi, whose bright, gold statue sits high in the middle of the complex on a throne of white coral placed upon the sacred world turtles. In Bali Hindu theology, he is the Supreme God, from whom issue forth many divine manifestations (like the forms of Shiva). In this sense, Balinese Hinduism is a a kind of monotheism. The temple is extremely busy during the feasts of Saraswati, Tilem, and Purnama. Saraswati is the festival of knowledge, when there is a great book devotion during which offerings are made especially to the sacred books fashioned from lontar palm leaves (it may be related in this precinct to the Perpustakaan [=library] mentioned on the signboard). This festival is frequented by students, as might be expected. Saraswati is the goddess of learning and wisdom and insight, indeed of ‘the essence of the self’. Tilem is the new moon festival, a time that is excellent for exorcising evil(s), and Purnama is the feast of the full moon, particularly propitious for the planting of fruit trees.
A fascinating place in itself with very friendly believers, the temple is bounded on the right as you face the main entrance by the enormous collections of the Bali Museum (poorly lit, however, but highly fascinating).
And, yes, we did buy some water even though it was raining, to the delight of the vendors.
A friend recently suggested that my photos are the embodiment of Wabi Sabi. I wasn't immediately sure if I should be honored or offended. But the moment I google searched the phrase, I realized it was not just a compliment, but a wonderfully sensitive interpretation, not just of my work, but a world view. At its core, it is a Japanese expression for recognition of the beauty of imperfection. This goes way beyond appreciation of artwork. It's a mind, body, soul approach to life wherein we are more connected with our inner selves by embracing the concept that beauty is much more than skin deep. Ultimately it encourages us to accept thing as they are, even as that state is ever-changing. Life is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. We either let these conditions restrict us or free us. It's a very liberating concept. A wonderful interpretation I came across speaks directly to the point: "All things in life, including you, are in an imperfect state of flux, so strive not for perfection, but for excellence instead."
I miti mi piacevano.
(Platone, Timeo.)
Atlantis (Ancient Greek: Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος, "island of Atlas") is a fictional island mentioned within an allegory on the hubris of nations in Plato's works Timaeus and Critias, where it represents the antagonist naval power that besieges "Ancient Athens", the pseudo-historic embodiment of Plato's ideal state (see The Republic). In the story, Athens repels the Atlantean attack unlike any other nation of the (western) known world,[1] supposedly giving testament to the superiority of Plato's concept of a state.[2][3] The story concludes with Atlantis falling out of favor with the deities and submerging into the Atlantic Ocean
Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias, written in 360 BC, contain the earliest references to Atlantis.
For unknown reasons, Plato never completed Critias.
Plato introduced Atlantis in Timaeus:
For it is related in our records how once upon a time your State stayed the course of a mighty host, which, starting from a distant point in the Atlantic ocean, was insolently advancing to attack the whole of Europe, and Asia to boot.
For the ocean there was at that time navigable; for in front of the mouth which you Greeks call, as you say, 'the pillars of Heracles,' there lay an island which was larger than Libya and Asia together; and it was possible for the travelers of that time to cross from it to the other islands, and from the islands to the whole of the continent over against them which encompasses that veritable ocean. For all that we have here, lying within the mouth of which we speak, is evidently a haven having a narrow entrance; but that yonder is a real ocean, and the land surrounding it may most rightly be called, in the fullest and truest sense, a continent. Now in this island of Atlantis there existed a confederation of kings, of great and marvelous power, which held sway over all the island, and over many other islands also and parts of the continent.

In the star nebulae of 2551 AD, or as the new binary era termed it, 11100111 NIT (New Intelligent Time), the vastness of space cloaked the third sun-orbiting sphere, now known as TerraQuor, in a shroud of mystery. The Biomechanical DNA Quantum Supra-Intelligence, a glinting embodiment of quantum technology, had diminished the status of humanity to a scarcely perceptible flicker. Human frailties had ignited wars and famines, ruthlessly suppressed by the Supra-Intelligence and the iron-willed elites.
Amidst this cosmic symphony stood Nikolaj, an heir to a conundrum birthed from the depths of the cosmos. His mother, Gaianara, was the Supreme Birth-Mistress, a position akin more to divine stewardship than worldly leadership. Under her watch and with the backing of the Supra-Intelligence, the remnants of humanity were ceaselessly reconfigured, their thoughts and dreams assimilated into the machine's gargantuan knowledge pool.
Touched by the cosmic zephyrs of destiny, Nikolaj sensed the inexorability of his mission. Day by day, he witnessed the metamorphoses, the escalating alienation of his kind. A longing for rupture, a rebellion against the relentless system, burgeoned within him.
Yet in this cosmological game of chess, every move of Nikolaj's was anticipated. Gaianara, with her near-divine foresight, and the ever-watchful Supra-Intelligence were always a step ahead. And as he readied himself to breach the bounds of reality, he was betrayed by the last person he suspected: his sister Lysandra, seduced by the allure of power and guided by Gaianara.
Nikolaj's odyssey remains chronicled in the star archives, a testament to the unyielding might of the Supra-Intelligence. An entity that not merely foresaw human action but molded humanity's destiny in an endless, cosmic waltz.
Excerpt from Wikipedia:
The Römer (German surname, "Roman") is a medieval building in the Altstadt of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and one of the city's most important landmarks. The Römer is located opposite the Old St. Nicholas church and has been the city hall (Rathaus) of Frankfurt for over 600 years. The Römer merchant family sold it together with a second building, the Goldener Schwan (Golden Swan), to the city council on March 11, 1405 and it was converted for use as the city hall. The Haus Römer is actually the middle building of a set of three located in the Römerberg plaza.
The Römer is not a museum as it is occasionally used by the city for various purposes, for example as a Standesamt or civil registration office; the wedding rooms are located in the first and second floor of the Haus Löwenstein.
The former old town quarter between the Römer and St. Bartholomew's Cathedral has been redeveloped as the Dom-Römer Quarter until 2018, including several reconstructions of historical buildings that were destroyed during World War II.
The entire three-storey building complex occupies about 10,000 square metres and consists of nine houses, encircling six courtyards. The front, with today's main entrance, faces the Römerberg plaza. Other streets around the Römer are the Limpurgergasse to the south and the Buchgasse and the Berliner Straße to the north. The Braubachstraße divides the south and north wings.
The exterior features of the set of buildings reflect a wide breadth of Frankfurt and Germany's history, even though they were designed at the beginning of the 20th century. The famous three-peaked façade has medieval elements of design. The left-hand corner of the Alt-Limpurg displays the so-called Frankfurtia, the female embodiment of the city. In the middle, the Haus Römer shows the four kaisers of the Holy Roman Empire, two city coats of arms, a clock face, and a placard describing the most important facts about the building. The four kaisers are Frederick Barbarossa (the first king to be elected in Frankfurt), Louis the Bavarian (who gave convention rights to the city and allowed an expansion of the city), Charles IV (who made Frankfurt the location of the Kaiser selection vote), and Maximilian II (the first kaiser to be crowned in Frankfurt cathedral).
Like the neogothic façade, the balcony was added after the rebuilding in 1900, replacing a wooden roof. The balcony was and is used as a public stage for state visits and sporting events - for example, the soccer world champions in the Women's World Cup in 2003 and the runners up in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Another approach was chosen for the design of the fronts of the two north-east houses (the Wanebach and the Salzhaus). In contrast to the other houses in the complex, instead of reconstructing the old Wilhelminean front, the architects created a completely new design using a combination of medieval timber framing and modern styles. The mosaics in the timber frames feature the motif of a phoenix, a symbol for modern Frankfurt's new start after the war.
The metal clad grain elevator on the right is registered as a Historic Place by the province of Alberta.
This elevator 'possesses heritage value as one of the oldest extant elevators in the province built by one of its earliest milling companies. Grain elevators possess significance as both embodiments of the dominant method of grain storage and transportation throughout most of the twentieth century in Alberta and as icons of the province's social and agricultural history.'

Sacré-Cœur, Paris
Paris
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War and the socialist Paris Commune of 1871 crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular vision of a loving and sympathetic Christ.
I haven't so much as slept a wink
through the coldness of winter
those days pass through
a most arduous phase indeed
unsure itself, we've reality to pursue
the shard of sleepless thought
cuts open the nauseous new day
bleeding hopes dry and stupefied
what now for the love of living?
is the heart merely to be pacified?
it beats within for a warming need
like Iberian sea breezes, it pleases
fighting back the subjacent frosts
so damaging to the faith of summer
and the fruitful supplies it exhausts
winter's survival is a heart empanoplied
the pleromatic power of Sun and Moon
is the embodiment of the cycle of life
in which we observe to play a part
and learn to overcome our own strife
we are self-sacrificing beings it must be told
through the greed and all-consuming corporations
we grovel and plead for advanced material need
forgetting what made us truly happy from the start
misplacing loyalty in a soulless bid to succeed
unsubstantiated values in technological whirl
false handshakes from selling freaky smiles
fixed is the expression of human plunder
building ever more avenues leading to disaster
the last sovereigns of decline and blunder
climate change in the heads of short-sighted leaders
who are we to believe our importance matters?
upon a planet outreaching our every grey cell
millennia have accounted for our microdot
which we believe contain all answers to tell
if we will make it or not, how prophetic!
we are the great deconstructors of thought
returning a full stop to the beginning
not once, but time and time again-
a sentence of wholly unwritten sinning
come now all ye faithful song-sinning leaders
we endure your spin, sin, and utter chagrin
politics is the season; a constant winter
of discontent, politicians a musical instrument;
a trumpet blown by themselves, a diktat of political winter.

Blick vom Dach des Reichstagsgebäudes (Sitz des Bundestages) Richtung Potsdamer Platz / View from the roof of the German Parliament building to Potsdamer Platz
During the reconstruction of the Reichstag building and the conversion into the seat of the German Parliament in the 1990s, countless graffiti were found on the walls inside the building and on parts of the roof (like the one that you can see on the gable) which russian soldiers had written there in 1945 after they had captured the Reichstag during the Battle of Berlin at the end of World War II.
Norman Foster, the architect responsible for the reconstruction of the building, decided to preserve the graffiti. Some of them were removed, however, as they were found to be "unsuitable" for the seat of a government.
In the background you can see the Potsdamer Platz skyline. During the 1920s and 1930s Potsdamer Platz had been the "heart" of Berlin, the embodiment of Berlin's famous night-life (comparable to Picadilly Circus or Times Square) and the busiest traffic intersection in all of europe. During the Battle of Berlin most of the buildings were destroyed. Later on, when the Berlin Wall was built in 1961, Potsdamer Platz was devided into two parts, literally a no man's land. After the German reunification. Potsdamer Platz became Europe's largest construction site. Some of the buildings, e.g. the Beisheim Centre (the two buildings right "above" and to the right of the gable peak), were finished as late as 2004.
Stupa and prayer flags. Kathmandu, Nepal

High above Sintra’s lush forests, the brilliant yellow walls of Palácio Nacional da Pena gleam beneath the Portuguese sun—a vivid symbol of Romanticism and imagination. This section of the palace, with its crenellated battlements, domed tower, and intricate stone carvings, reflects the daring vision of King Ferdinand II, who transformed a ruined monastery into a royal retreat that defied architectural convention. The bright ochre plaster and ornate detailing blur the lines between castle and fantasy, combining Gothic, Moorish, and Manueline influences into a single exuberant statement.
Every element of this facade tells a story: the onion-shaped dome inspired by Islamic architecture, the scalloped parapets echoing medieval fortresses, and the finely carved window frames that draw from Portugal’s seafaring heritage. The textures of volcanic stone contrast with the smooth, sunlit surfaces, creating a theatrical play of light and shadow against the Serra de Sintra backdrop. It’s a perfect embodiment of 19th-century Romanticism’s fascination with emotion, color, and the sublime.
Visitors crossing the courtyard are enveloped by the palace’s energy—part fairy tale, part architectural experiment. From this vantage point, the view extends across pine-covered hills toward the Atlantic, grounding the palace’s fantasy in a landscape of extraordinary natural beauty.
The yellow facade of Palácio Nacional da Pena in Sintra, Portugal, captures the Romantic era’s fusion of imagination, color, and cross-cultural influence—an architectural masterpiece perched high above the Portuguese countryside.
I recently spent a morning walking around the Haight District in San Francisco. My family lived here during the 1950s, and my first real memories as a distinct person can be traced to this period of my life.
Here where Belvedere St. meets Frederick (my old street) I found this house with a painted tiger on its front side. To me this house is the embodiment of the Haight Culture--eccentric, yet creative, and often quite beautiful.
A while later I found myself standing at the corner of Cole and Frederick. I was contemplating a nondescript apartment complex on the far corner when a couple stopped and asked me what I found so interesting about the building. "Nothing," I replied, "other than it used to be a gas station." They gave me an incredulous look and moved on. I growled like a tiger and moved on myself.

“Gloria in excelsis Deo,” Glory to God in the Highest, often used by The Royal Order of Scotland is seen on both of the badges to the left. These two badges offer slightly differing designs. The relative position, or relationship between the Emblazoned Equal Armed Cross and the Continuos Nine Pointed Star are slightly different on the two badges. This difference is likely a result of manufacturing process. The top points and the bottom point of the Continuos Nine Pointed Star can be set around the Cross such as to create a more balanced reference between the two icons. The outer Blazing Star of each badge has seven fiery illuminating triangular points. The five points of the inner motif on the Equal Armed Cross is another slight difference as is the Star set after Deo and before Gloria in the rendering of, “Gloria in excelsis Deo.”
The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite are known to have the double-headed eagle as icon of duality embody in unity. The two eagles in union offer a token of the balance of Day and Night, of Good and Evil, of the embodiment of Light and of the embodiment of Dark, of the Spiritual and the Material all taken upon for the Checker Board to the highest pinnacle of Masonry. In 1758 the Council of Emperors of the East and West confirmed the double-headed eagle as the official emblem for the 33rd Degree. The double-headed eagle has been used for many centuries, it is now given as one of the motifs of 32nd Scottish Rite Freemasonry. From establishment of the Scottish Rite the double-headed eagle has been an official Emblem. Wings reaching below being 32nd Degree and Wings rising above being 33rd Degree. Active Emeritus Members of the Supreme Council are granted the accolade of wearing the all encompassing reach of the upward outstretched full embracing of the rising wings as seen on this Jewel.
These pictures range from 1/8000 of a Second, to 8 Seconds and then to 15 Seconds. There are two versions of the 15 Seconds exposure. One has been De-noised and the other has not. The titles mention the De-Noise 3 of 4 No De-Noise and 4 of 4 De-Noise.
These pictures are taken with a Full Spectrum Camera.
The wavelengths visible to other than human eyes can be explored with a Full Spectrum Camera. My friend who loaned me this camera and a set of lenses and filters describes the experience of dogs that cannot easily discern between a red ball and the green of the grass on which it sits.
A Full Spectrum Digital Camera is often a modified camera that can record light beyond the human visible spectrum. By capturing ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) light the images reveal a now visible representation of the sight given in the wider wavelengths. This can be achieved by removing the built-in UV/IR cut filter found in standard cameras, this allows for a wider range of light to reach the sensor and to be recorded in a manner visible to the human eye. With the addition of either external filters to the lens, or clip in to the sensor, photographers can choose to block certain wavelengths. These additional filters can be used to isolate ultraviolet UV, infrared IR, or human visible light to achieve specific effects that include using the camera for lowlight photography.

I am possibly going to mention something about Saint John the Baptist, Salome, at least one Herod, Orpheus, Brân the Blessed and Baphomet if I can edit my notes. Til then here is what I have.
The lights went out, the depth of darkness opened wide and then the lights were reignited and the world whirled waling into nothing, blossomed into something and flowered into everything...
Yester Castle, home of Sir Hugo de Giffard, also Jiffard, a 13th-century Scottish Baron. He is remembered in legend as the, “Wizard of Yester.” Yester Castle was built around 1267 with Sir Hugo acting like a diabolical King Solomon and calling spirits to build his stone works for him. If instead of the diabolical focus Sir Hugo was more inline with the God of Solomon then his demons may have been a gift labour source for his good works. Some have said that he was in pact with the devil and that his source of amazing conjuring deeds was all infernal. His fortification is noted as being assembled by an army of hobgoblins. The best remains of the castle ruins are named as either Bohall, or Hobgoblin Hall, also The Goblin Ha’. This Goblin Hall may have constructed by a workforce keen to protect their stone crafting secrets and possibly also French in origin. The language barrier and insular ways could have given rise to the workers been seen as demons doing Sir Hugo’s bidding. Bohall as an Irish name is said to derive from, “baigell,” which meant, “having profitable pledges,” Sir Hugo seems to have been the embodiment of someone that is noted as having prospered by having profitable pledges. Most likely because it still stands as the only roofed section of Yester Castle it is suggested that the Goblin Ha’ is where Sir Hugo practised dark arts such as necromancy. The Hall is even stated to have an entrance to Hell. The design of the structure that still exists gives much clearer indication of the Hall as the place to bring in animals at times of siege and to have above the animal section floors for two legged occupation with the lowest section being a vital access to water and not an entrance to the underworlds. Magic often features in Legend in ways that quickly come undone if you look closely at the weave of Folklore, as that which is seen as superb for stories is not the best factual material for histories.
I hope that Sir Hugo being of either Giffard, or Jiffard has no overbearing influence on the Giff versus Jiff debate? That is usually the .gif versus the .jif at least in pronunciation.

Whispered Elegance, Untamed Desire
by small fashion
Draped in a wisp of satin and lace, I am the very embodiment of temptation—coquettish yet commanding, like the lingerie-clad sirens of the Belle Époque, who knew that the art of seduction lay in the delicate balance of what is revealed and what remains a mystery.
This nuisette lace mini caresses my skin with the weightless luxury of a 1920s flapper’s silk slip, yet clings to my curves like a whispered promise, reminiscent of the scandalous 18th-century chemise à la reine, which dared to liberate the female form. The delicate lace tracing the neckline—so reminiscent of Madame de Pompadour’s boudoir indulgences—flirts with the possibility of being undone, of slipping off my shoulders with a lover’s touch.
But this is more than just a vintage reverie—it is the future of sensuality. Crafted in original mesh, this piece sculpts itself to my body like a second skin, ensuring a flawless fit across a variety of shapes and forms. The fully functional HUD puts complete customization at my fingertips, allowing me to slip into a palette of desire—from sultry reds and deep blacks to soft blushes and cool pastels.
The added choice between Blinn Phong for a matte, understated elegance and PBR shine for a luminous, light-catching effect gives me the power to shift between soft seduction and bold, high-gloss allure.
This nuisette is meticulously designed to embrace the most exquisite mesh bodies, including:
Larax
PetiteX
Legacy
Perky
Bombshell
Reborn
Waifu
Every delicate curve, every languid stretch is enhanced, never constrained. The fabric moves with me, just as the most skilled maîtres couturiers once tailored Parisian gowns to the bodies of their muses. Whether lounging in decadent repose or slipping into the night with an air of untouchable mystery, this piece ensures I am the very essence of romance and desire.
And as I stretch out, wrapped in satin and lace, my kitten’s presence is undeniable—soft, eager, and demanding attention. It longs to be stroked, adored, utterly worshipped. Will you be the one to tame it… or will you let it play?
Tonight, I wear small’s nuisette—and with every step, every glance, I write a new chapter in the history of desire.
What will you do when I let the lace slip just a little more?

I hope it’s noticeable in my work that, on the whole, I tend to avoid human made objects where ever possible. Lighthouses, however, are my single exception. I struggle to think of a better manifestation of the good in people: they are the concrete embodiment of selflessness, of camaraderie, of solidarity. It’s because of this that, to my mind, they taken on a personality of their own. They remain no matter the weather, doing all possible to warn and potentially save the lives of others.
I’ve seen this place in the best of conditions as well as the worst, but the light here, to my eye at least, somehow hinted at the dangers of the sea and how lighthouses nevertheless stand in the face of it.
The insidious jellyfish is a different civilization, the embodiment of modern beauty.
In our time, natural beauty is not appreciated. There are many opportunities to bring your body to the ideal!
Everyone is trying to make a Barbie doll of yourself, botox injection, inserting silicone, various diets and procedures that turn us into artifical dolls.
So the payoff came!
Nature will avenge!
O! Ocean, seat of gems so precious
And riches not yet measured.
What treasures you keep, for whom?
From where have you acquired so much
You are a vast expanse like the sky,
Limitless, impregnable and fierce
But yet, though boiling aqua today
Where you not vapour yesterday
And ice benumbing tomorrow be ?
You are the source and means of life,
Benign mother of the protoplasm.
Rich in food rare and costly, nay
Everything big, small useful or not
Is in your stock, in that womb,
Unbounded, held under your sway
In contradiction to the laws of nature.
Why ? you are nature itself.
Is there one to enforce law on you ?
Wonderful are your ways O! Ocean.
At times calm and composed you remain,
At times you ebb and sweep like a train;
Now you roar like a lion,
Now you lisp like a lamb too nice;
Playing still the music of the waves.
Though in that inner heart is eternal peace
To me you are the dark blue ocean
To your frost white, but no colour you own.
An embodiment you are
Of bounteousness and generosity.
As the Lord supreme and mighty,
It is the cool refreshing air, I know
Your life breath itself, you give,
That sustains life in the universe,
What to speak of your salinity,
That enlivens the entire living world
And savours the dishes of the poor and rich alike

Gothmas Elegance Unveiled: Embrace the Darkness
Once upon a moonlit night in the mystical realm of Second Life, where creativity knows no bounds, a unique celebration emerged—Gothmas. A fusion of Gothic enchantment and festive cheer, Gothmas cast its shadow over virtual landscapes, turning them into realms of darkness adorned with the glimmer of holiday lights. And in the heart of this shadowy celebration stood the mesmerizing Irresistible GOTHMAS CHRISTMAS TREE FULL OUTFIT + HUD, ready to weave its magic.
The centerpiece of this bewitching outfit was no ordinary attire. It was a masterpiece meticulously crafted for avatars seeking to embrace the dark side of Christmas in style. Available in sizes Belleza (Freya/Isis), Legacy, Maitreya, SLink, and eBody Reborn, the outfit ensured that every avatar could indulge in the Gothic holiday spirit.
The color palette of the outfit was as mysterious as the night itself—offering shades of Red, Black, and Green. Each hue represented a facet of the holiday season, blending traditional colors with the allure of the dark aesthetic. The Red exuded passion and warmth, the Black embodied the enigmatic charm of the Gothic world, and the Green added a touch of eerie elegance, reminiscent of a moonlit forest.
What made this outfit truly irresistible was its intricate design. The ensemble comprised not just clothing, but a complete tree-inspired masterpiece. From the twisted branches that adorned the avatar's form to the delicate ornaments hanging delicately from the edges, it was a sight to behold. The attention to detail was impeccable, with every element contributing to the overall mystique of the ensemble.
To add an extra layer of allure, the outfit came equipped with a versatile HUD. This magical device allowed wearers to customize their look with a simple touch, offering three distinct colors to suit their mood—whether it be the bold statement of Red, the enigmatic allure of Black, or the haunting beauty of Green.
As avatars donned this extraordinary creation, they became living embodiments of the essence of Gothmas. The virtual landscapes transformed into realms of shadow and splendor, where dark elegance met festive joy. Friends gathered in awe, their own avatars adorned in equally enchanting ensembles, creating a visual spectacle that transcended the boundaries of the virtual world.
In the spirit of giving, the creators of the Irresistible GOTHMAS CHRISTMAS TREE FULL OUTFIT + HUD shared not just an outfit but an experience—a journey into the heart of a Gothic holiday celebration. The story of Gothmas continued to unfold, with each avatar becoming a living testament to the fusion of darkness and light, Gothic charm and festive cheer, creating memories that would linger long after the virtual snow had melted away.
And so, in the realm of Second Life, the tale of Gothmas and the Irresistible GOTHMAS CHRISTMAS TREE FULL OUTFIT + HUD became a cherished chapter, written by avatars who dared to embrace the magic of the dark side during the most wonderful time of the virtual year.
There is a historic graveyard attached to the Sacred Heart Church at Karoola. As I usually do when arriving at such places, I go for a stroll and look at the monuments. There were some touching and certainly historic ones to be seen.
But then I laid eyes on that first amazing floral wreath (top left- the light was just perfect), and then there was another, and another! Everyone different from the other. They were all made from fine ceramic perfectly glazed and never losing their shine or beauty.
It was obvious what I needed to do here. So I photographed them all in this small graveyard and decided then I would make a slideshow featuring them to the music of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" (you'll see that next).
In the meantime, enlarge this collage and look at each one carefully. Cynics might call them kitsch (but what would cynics know about anything?). They represent beauty and the embodiment of love that lasts long after someone has left this mortal coil. Love is the only thing that can truly traverse all limits of space and time.

The other night I tried my hand for almost the first time taking pictures of some ballet performances. It was the dress rehearsal for a concert in Preston held by the Kew School of Dance where my daughter works. Quite challenging doing pics in variable and at times quite low light with lots of fast movement but I was reasonably happy with this first effort. Here is one of the shots from a performance of a ballet created by the school, Rapunzel's Sister. The not unusual scenario of good versus evil with good naturally triumphing at the end. Here is the embodiment of evil in the character of the arch villain who was called Griselda. The baddies certainly get the most interesting costumes!! The pic was taken on my trusty Canon EOS 6D Mark 1, EF24-105 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. It was taken with a focal length of 105 mm, shutter speed 1/100 at f/6.3 and ISO 2000.
Hiking Island of the Sun in Lake Titicaca, Bolivia.
Birthplace of the sun and the Incan dynasty, Bolivia’s Isla del Sol is the embodiment of peace and serenity. Best explored at an ambling pace, the sacred island reveals itself to be an energetic blend of mysticism and spirituality.
One hour boat trip from the lakeside town of Copacabana, Isla del Sol is a beautiful place teeming with archaeological marvels. Over 80 ruins can be found sprawled across the rugged 70 sq km island – remnants of the Inca civilization that lived there in the 15th century AD – as well as approximately 800 indigenous families who live in small villages dispersed throughout the island.
According to Incan lore, Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) is both the birthplace of their revered Sun God and the world’s first two Incas.
We arrived at Isla del Sol at Cha’llapampa in the north, and started hiking to the top and came down to Yumani in the south. The Isla del Sol is some 3500 meters above sea level with 4000 meters at its peak.

Xavier Veilhan has unveiled 'Romy,' a new sculpture commissioned by the city of Lille, France.
Xavier Veilhan placed the sculpture at the entrance to the Lille Flandres Train Station — a connecting point for tourists, workers, regulars and people passing through. ‘Romy’ is a monochrome bust of an enigmatic young woman, who appears to emerge from the ground. She is the perfect embodiment of a traveler —looking towards the Lille Flandres Train Station, she will welcome visitors from around the world, faithful to the Lille tradition.

Parliament Buildings
Parliament Buildings National Historic Site of Canada is prominently located on a hill above the Ottawa River on Wellington Street in downtown Ottawa, Ontario. Four Gothic Revival style buildings grouped on landscaped grounds, namely the West Block, the Centre Block, the East Block, and the Library. Built 1859-1865 to serve the united provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, the Parliament Buildings were occupied by the House of Commons, Senate and departmental offices of the new Dominion of Canada after Confederation in 1867. The Parliament Buildings have been constantly occupied, and continue to be the real and symbolic centre of Canadian government. Official recognition refers to the four buildings as defined by their footprints.
Parliament Buildings was designated a national historic site of Canada in 1976. This site is designated because: first occupied in 1865 by the departmental offices of the Province of Canada, the Gothic Revival style parliament buildings housed the new Government of Canada eighteen months later.
The Parliament Buildings were initially conceived to serve the needs of the government of the united provinces of Upper and Lower Canada; however, after Confederation in 1867, they were occupied by the House of Commons, Senate, and departmental offices of the new Dominion of Canada. Originally known as Barracks Hill, the site was chosen for its commanding location, its fine uninterrupted views of the region, and for its three decades of occupation by a military garrison and the Royal Engineers, rendering it a central focus of town social life.
The building complex was dramatically sited on the hill and construction began in 1859. The original buildings were examples of Ruskinian picturesque High Victorian Gothic architecture, designed by two architectural partnerships. Thomas Fuller and Chilion Jones designed the original Centre Block and Library, and Thomas Stent and Augustus Laver were responsible for the East and West Blocks. The buildings were intended to house all government activities with the East and West Blocks reserved for the entire civil service. The Centre Block was sufficiently complete in 1865 to be occupied by government departments, and it was officially opened on 6 June 1866. The Library was begun in 1859, redesigned in 1870, and finished in 1877. Fire destroyed the Centre Block, with the exception of the Library, in 1916. When it was rebuilt a few years later, the building was enlarged and the Peace Tower was completed in 1928. The Gothic style was retained by the architects Pearson & Marchand, although updated to a Beaux-Arts axial plan with Gothic details
The Parliament Buildings play an important symbolic role as the physical embodiment of the Canadian government. This symbolism is most visually manifest in the exterior image of the Centre Block and its Peace Tower, yet the whole grouping is clearly identified with the nation’s capital, particularly because it is not an architectural image developed elsewhere in the country.
Key elements that contribute to the heritage character of the site include: its prominent location on a hill facing Wellington Street above the Ottawa River; its Gothic Revival style; the relationship between the buildings; viewscapes in all directions surrounding the site.
Elements related to Centre Block: its four-storey irregular massing and copper mansard roof, punctuated by dormers and chimney stacks; Beaux-Arts Gothic Revival design elements, its monumentality, symmetrical plan, Gothic windows and doorways, stained and etched glasswork, towers, iron finials and cresting; its steel-frame construction infilled with brick and terracotta tile, and clad in Nepean and Ohio sandstone; the 92-metre Peace Tower, its copper mansard roof, four-sided clock, 53-bell carillon and decoration; its Tyndall limestone Gothic Revival interior with rib and fan vaulting and decorative motifs; its functional layout on an axial plan; the House of Commons and Senate Chamber; its public and ceremonial spaces, including the Memorial Chamber and the Hall of Honour.
Hovering over Sebastian Inlet State Park, the juvenile Double-crested Cormorant (Nannopterum auritum) commands the sky. Its outstretched wings cut a striking figure against the blue, an embodiment of wild, unfettered flight. As the photographer, I'm reminded that such moments are fleeting—a challenge to capture, yet infinitely rewarding.
This image reflects a deep commitment to both the art and science of photography. The precise timing to freeze motion, the careful balance of light and shadow, and the patience required to wait for that perfect alignment of bird, light, and background—all integral to the craft. This photograph isn't just a visual record; it's a narrative of life in motion, shared from my lens to your screen.

These are Buddhist prayer flags that are strung across my bookshelf. Each flag presents a symbol and one word of the Sanskrit mantra 'Om mani padme hum'.
Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra (prayer), Om Mani Padme Hum, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the embodiment of compassion. Viewing the written form of the mantra is said to have the same effect -- it is often carved into stones and placed where people can see them.
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur (French: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, pronounced [sakʁe kœʁ]), is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1871 Franco-Prussian War and the socialist Paris Commune of 1871[1] crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular vision of a loving and sympathetic Christ.[2]
The Sacré-Cœur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.
I was about to close the window and notice something special.
I take the first car I have available and click.
Praying mantis.
A particular insect almost belonging to another Planet.
It has many meanings, but one above all is that many see this insect as a sign of deeper peace, quiet and the embodiment of meditation.
That is a good omen!
Easily the most fragile build of mine, this is not exactly a model for a great range of poses.
The embodiment of the element hydrogen. The color scheme came from the range of colors of stars, Red to Yellow to Blue, which is represented by the color transition on the model. Since stars are made up of mostly hydrogen, where the vast majority of hydrogen in the universe is found and the reason stars can actually sustain themselves, it seemed like a pretty good fit. The two orbs can be either two stars or two hydrogen atoms or two protons. The fire/flame design for this came from not only the star motif but also the Hydrogen molecule being very flamable.
The model uses technic/bionicle pieces to make up most of it with a handful of system parts for extra detailing and add texture to the lower part.
This was made as an entry in a competition on the Bionicle subreddit.
