Hiking Island of the Sun in Lake Titicaca, Bolivia.

Birthplace of the sun and the Incan dynasty, Bolivia’s Isla del Sol is the embodiment of peace and serenity. Best explored at an ambling pace, the sacred island reveals itself to be an energetic blend of mysticism and spirituality.

One hour boat trip from the lakeside town of Copacabana, Isla del Sol is a beautiful place teeming with archaeological marvels. Over 80 ruins can be found sprawled across the rugged 70 sq km island – remnants of the Inca civilization that lived there in the 15th century AD – as well as approximately 800 indigenous families who live in small villages dispersed throughout the island.

According to Incan lore, Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) is both the birthplace of their revered Sun God and the world’s first two Incas.

We arrived at Isla del Sol at Cha’llapampa in the north, and started hiking to the top and came down to Yumani in the south. The Isla del Sol is some 3500 meters above sea level with 4000 meters at its peak.

✨ Introducing the Shyla Sequins Top, Skirt & Scarf Set by E.K. Fashion ✨

The moment I step out in Shyla, the world melts into a blur of gasps, glances, and envy. Draped in sequins that catch the sunlight like whispers of stardust, I become the embodiment of timeless glamour—a modern-day goddess inspired by the elegance of the ancients and the bold allure of old Hollywood.

The top clings just right—seductive in its sequined shimmer, gathered delicately at the center like it was crafted for my curves alone. The skirt? A masterclass in drape and drama. Fluid folds wrap around my hips like a Grecian sculpture, finished with sparkling panels that promise to dazzle long after I’ve passed by. And the scarf sleeve—so airy, so romantic—floats like a silk sigh, wrapping me in vintage elegance.

This look is my love letter to fashion’s fiercest eras:

✧ the sculpted grace of Greco-Roman goddesses

✧ the boudoir boldness of the 1940s bombshells

✧ the shimmering nightlife of 1970s disco queens

I don’t just wear Shyla—I own every room in it.

Introduction

I

Mankind and the universe are woven into the Creator's design. Mankind and the universe are woven into the Creator's design. Tied to His workings, they are held within His sway. The laws of science and nature reveal how He works and rules. And the struggle to survive shows His supremacy. Yes, the fates of all things; yes, the fates of all things; yes, the fates of all things show His sovereign control.

II

In life and death and everything, mankind sees the Creator's work. In life and death and everything, mankind sees the Creator's work and bears witness to His superior ways that transcend all earthly powers and laws. So no created being can violate God's rule or change what He has ordained. All things bow to His laws, showing His authority. Both now and forever more.

As the Louis Vuitton Hotel in Paris takes shape during its construction phase, its façade has become a stunning embodiment of the brand’s legacy. Ingeniously designed to mimic one of Louis Vuitton’s iconic trunks, this temporary façade has turned the construction site into a symbol of luxury and heritage. The trunk, a cornerstone of Louis Vuitton’s history, signifies the brand’s journey and expertise in luxury travel. This creative approach not only pays homage to the brand’s roots but has also captivated onlookers, becoming a temporary yet iconic part of Paris’s cityscape.

Nestled at 103 Avenue des Champs Élysées, the site of the upcoming Louis Vuitton Hotel is as iconic as the brand itself. This Art Nouveau building, constructed in 1896, initially graced Paris as the Elysée Palace Hotel. Its walls have witnessed a rich tapestry of history, including the dramatic arrest of the infamous spy Mata Hari in 1917 and its transformation into a bank post-1919. During World War II, the building fell under Nazi occupation before eventually becoming the headquarters of HSBC Bank.

This location’s return to its hospitality roots with the Louis Vuitton Hotel is symbolic, marking a full circle from its origins. The façade, temporarily transformed to resemble a Louis Vuitton trunk during construction, is a nod to the building’s storied past and the brand’s journey in luxury exploration.

The Rooster of Barcelos Project will be located in Little Portugal At Dundas West & Lakeview Ave (1212 Dundas St. W, at the Lakeview Ave Parkette). For ArtworxTO: Toronto’s Year of Public Art 2021-2022, a rooster statue has been gifted by the Municipality of Barcelos, Portugal to the City of Toronto to be designed, painted and displayed in Little Portugal, Toronto. This concrete statue (2.8 m. X 1.9 m.) is being reimagined by an Artist whose design best fit the guiding themes of (i) the universal meaning of the rooster as a symbol of the sun, and (ii) the historical legend of the “Galo de Barcelos” or the Barcelos Rooster.

The Barcelos Rooster, commonly called the Portuguese Rooster, is said to be the embodiment of the Portuguese love of life. It is an unofficial symbol of Portugal found throughout Portugal in town squares, artwork and souvenir trinkets. The Rooster stands for pride, hope, a new day, fertility, resurrection, and other cultural meanings.

Sargent presents Henry Lee Higginson as the embodiment of respectable North American masculinity. He sits at ease in a loosely fitted, brown wool day suit, bathed in golden light. The lighting highlights a scar on Higginson's cheek, which, together with the blue military cloak on his lap, testifies to his service in the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry during the American Civil War. Sargent was commissioned to paint this portrait for the new Harvard University Union, largely funded by Higginson, which provided a communal area for Harvard undergraduates. This portrait was no doubt intended to present Higginson as an inspiration to the men of Harvard.

Excerpt from www.pc.gc.ca/apps/dfhd/page_nhs_eng.aspx?id=471:

Parliament Buildings

Parliament Buildings National Historic Site of Canada is prominently located on a hill above the Ottawa River on Wellington Street in downtown Ottawa, Ontario. Four Gothic Revival style buildings grouped on landscaped grounds, namely the West Block, the Centre Block, the East Block, and the Library. Built 1859-1865 to serve the united provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, the Parliament Buildings were occupied by the House of Commons, Senate and departmental offices of the new Dominion of Canada after Confederation in 1867. The Parliament Buildings have been constantly occupied, and continue to be the real and symbolic centre of Canadian government. Official recognition refers to the four buildings as defined by their footprints.

Parliament Buildings was designated a national historic site of Canada in 1976. This site is designated because: first occupied in 1865 by the departmental offices of the Province of Canada, the Gothic Revival style parliament buildings housed the new Government of Canada eighteen months later.

The Parliament Buildings were initially conceived to serve the needs of the government of the united provinces of Upper and Lower Canada; however, after Confederation in 1867, they were occupied by the House of Commons, Senate, and departmental offices of the new Dominion of Canada. Originally known as Barracks Hill, the site was chosen for its commanding location, its fine uninterrupted views of the region, and for its three decades of occupation by a military garrison and the Royal Engineers, rendering it a central focus of town social life.

The building complex was dramatically sited on the hill and construction began in 1859. The original buildings were examples of Ruskinian picturesque High Victorian Gothic architecture, designed by two architectural partnerships. Thomas Fuller and Chilion Jones designed the original Centre Block and Library, and Thomas Stent and Augustus Laver were responsible for the East and West Blocks. The buildings were intended to house all government activities with the East and West Blocks reserved for the entire civil service. The Centre Block was sufficiently complete in 1865 to be occupied by government departments, and it was officially opened on 6 June 1866. The Library was begun in 1859, redesigned in 1870, and finished in 1877. Fire destroyed the Centre Block, with the exception of the Library, in 1916. When it was rebuilt a few years later, the building was enlarged and the Peace Tower was completed in 1928. The Gothic style was retained by the architects Pearson & Marchand, although updated to a Beaux-Arts axial plan with Gothic details

The Parliament Buildings play an important symbolic role as the physical embodiment of the Canadian government. This symbolism is most visually manifest in the exterior image of the Centre Block and its Peace Tower, yet the whole grouping is clearly identified with the nation’s capital, particularly because it is not an architectural image developed elsewhere in the country.

Key elements that contribute to the heritage character of the site include: its prominent location on a hill facing Wellington Street above the Ottawa River; its Gothic Revival style; the relationship between the buildings; viewscapes in all directions surrounding the site.

Elements related to Centre Block: its four-storey irregular massing and copper mansard roof, punctuated by dormers and chimney stacks; Beaux-Arts Gothic Revival design elements, its monumentality, symmetrical plan, Gothic windows and doorways, stained and etched glasswork, towers, iron finials and cresting; its steel-frame construction infilled with brick and terracotta tile, and clad in Nepean and Ohio sandstone; the 92-metre Peace Tower, its copper mansard roof, four-sided clock, 53-bell carillon and decoration; its Tyndall limestone Gothic Revival interior with rib and fan vaulting and decorative motifs; its functional layout on an axial plan; the House of Commons and Senate Chamber; its public and ceremonial spaces, including the Memorial Chamber and the Hall of Honour.

The building of the National Bank of Ukraine is an architectural gem of Kyiv and a perfect example of the achievements of science and technology in construction of the beginning of the 20th century.

Built to meet the demands of the times, the building of the National Bank is the embodiment of experiments with different historical eras by the chief architect Oleksandr Kobelev. In an amazing design, the architect combined Northern Italian Gothic and early Florentine Renaissance. The artistic design of the bank is the merit of the Italian master Elio Sal, the author of the famous fantastic creatures in the House of Chimeras.

Watu Ulo beach is located in Jember, East Java, Indonesia. The main attraction is a 110-meter rock formation extending into the ocean, resembling a snake. That’s why people call this beach Watu Ulo.

The legend of Watu Ulo, adhered to by the local community, tells the story of a great dragon named Nogo Rojo, who became the ruler of Watu Ulo Beach. Large and voracious, this dragon-serpent could prey on marine creatures and local residents.

He was eventually defeated by Joko Mursodo. It is said that one day, Joko Mursodo was fishing in the area under Nogo Rojo's control. However, after a long period of fishing, he found no fish.

Joko Mursodo finally heard of Nogo Rojo, an animal capable of eating anything, including all fish. Upon hearing this, he attempted to defeat the greedy dragon. Joko Mursodo finally succeeded.

Joko Mursodo cut the serpent's body into three. The dragon's head was thrown onto Granjangan Beach in Banyuwangi. The body is found on Watu Ulo Beach, and the tail is found in Pacitan. The local community believes that this long stone with snake-like scales, measuring approximately 110 meters and about 4 meters wide, is the embodiment of Nogo Rogo's body.

Under certain conditions, this long rock can be visited by visitors wishing to enjoy the beauty of the beach.

. As if by magic turning mud into flowers

..

"Le lotus, ami des eaux dormantes, plonge ses racines dans la fange. Le bel élan de ses tiges porteuses de larges feuilles évidées comme des coupes, la carnation lumineuse de ses fleurs ne laissent rien soupçonner de cette origine innommable. Ainsi incarne-t-il aux yeux des Chinois la pureté triomphante, qui transmue comme par enchantement la boue en fleurs"

(François Cheng, poète français né en Chine en 1929)

‘The lotus, a friend of still waters, plunges its roots into the mire. The beautiful slenderness of its stems, which bear broad leaves hollowed out like cups, and the luminous complexion of its flowers give no hint of this unspeakable origin. To the Chinese, it is the embodiment of triumphant purity, transforming mud into flowers as if by magic’.

Donald Trump, like the Pied Piper of Hamelin (German: Rattenfänger von Hameln), the piper of Hamelin from a medieval German legend, leads Americans who are eager to believe in miracles into the unknown.

The Golden Age is a mythological representation of the happy and carefree state of primitive humanity. The basis of the representation was the mythological motif, according to which everything was better before than now.

The Golden Age Jewelry Factory promotes that "Golden Age" is "synonymous with flawless quality and the embodiment of the most beautiful jewelry desires", but in my opinion, the name is not flawless, because "before was better than now" :-))

This striking photograph showcases the tranquil beauty of a park in early spring. The vibrant green grass is freshly awash with sunlight, creating a lush carpet that invites leisurely strolls or peaceful contemplation. Mature trees with their budding leaves stand tall, offering shade and a sense of enduring tranquility. A blue sky, unmarred by the hustle of urban life, stretches above, while a gently curving path invites visitors to meander through this serene landscape. The scene is an embodiment of the quiet joys found in nature's embrace, a perfect retreat for those seeking a moment of calm in the midst of a busy world.

“I love tulips better than any other spring flower; they are the embodiment of alert cheerfulness and tidy grace, and next to a hyacinth look like a wholesome, freshly tubbed young girl beside a stout lady whose every movement weighs down the air with patchouli. Their faint, delicate scent is refinement itself; and is there anything in the world more charming than the sprightly way they hold up their little faces to the sun. I have heard them called bold and flaunting, but to me they seem modest grace itself, only always on the alert to enjoy life as much as they can and not be afraid of looking the sun or anything else above them in the face.”

The Tiger symbolism

More than just prized for its beauty and majesty, the tiger bears a greater symbolism in Chinese culture. In China, the tiger is considered the king of all beasts as it symbolises power and a great deal of nerve. It is also known as the king of the mountain.

In traditional Chinese culture, the tiger is also a symbol of luck. Considered to be an embodiment of “yang” – or positive – energy, the tiger is a ‘solar animal’ in Yin-and-Yang philosophy, and associated with the sun, summer and fire. They symbolise Power, Energy, Royalty, Protection, Generosity, Illumination, and Unpredictability.

This fearless creature is also revered as the symbol that wards off the main disasters of a household – ghosts, fire, and thieves. To this day, images of tigers and dragons are often paired on walls of temples. The head of the tiger used to be painted on soldiers’ shields in order to terrify the enemy. Tigers are also associated with the God of Wealth, who is often seen sitting on a tiger in Asian art.

In ancient Chinese myth, there are five tigers that hold the balance of cosmic forces and maintain harmony.

The five Asian tigers and their meanings are:

White Tiger – ruler of the Fall season and governor of the Metal elementals.

Black Tiger – ruler of the Winter season and governor of the Water elementals.

Blue Tiger – ruler of the Spring season and governor of the Earth elementals.

Red Tiger – ruler of the Summer season and governor of the Fire elementals.

Yellow Tiger – the supreme ruler of all these tigers and symbolic of the Sun.

Tigers figure largely in Chinese classical literature and performance art. They are also the main protagonists of many folk tales and proverbs. The tiger image in China is synonymous with success and achievement. The symbolism of the Tiger in Chinese culture is as diverse as the noble creature itself.

The School of Athens (Italian: Scuola di Atene) is a fresco by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. It was painted between 1509 and 1511 as a part of Raphael's commission to decorate the rooms now known as the Stanze di Raffaello, in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

The Stanza della Segnatura

The Stanza della Segnatura was the first of the rooms to be decorated, and The School of Athens, representing philosophy, was probably the third painting to be finished there, after La Disputa (Theology) on the opposite wall, and the Parnassus (Literature). The painting is notable for its accurate perspective projection, which Raphael learned from Leonardo da Vinci (who is the central figure of this painting, representing Plato). The rebirth of Ancient Greek Philosophy and culture in Europe (along with Raphael's work) were inspired by Leonardo's individual pursuits in theatre, engineering, optics, geometry, physiology, anatomy, history, architecture and art. This work has long been seen as "Raphael's masterpiece and the perfect embodiment of the classical spirit of the Renaissance.

Aspects of the fresco other than the identities of the figures have also been variously interpreted, but few such interpretations are unanimously accepted among scholars. That the rhetorical gestures of Plato and Aristotle are kinds of pointing (to the heavens, and down to earth) is popularly accepted as likely. However, Plato's Timaeus – which is the book Raphael places in his hand – was a sophisticated treatment of space, time, and change, including the Earth, which guided mathematical sciences for over a millennium. Aristotle, with his four-elements theory, held that all change on Earth was owing to motions of the heavens. In the painting Aristotle carries his Ethics, which he denied could be reduced to a mathematical science. It is not certain how much the young Raphael knew of ancient philosophy, what guidance he might have had from people such as Bramante and whether a detailed program was dictated by his sponsor, Pope Julius II.

Nevertheless, the fresco has even recently been interpreted as an exhortation to philosophy and, in a deeper way, as a visual representation of the role of Love in elevating people toward upper knowledge, largely in consonance with contemporary theories of Marsilio Ficino and other neo-Platonic thinkers linked to Raphael.

When I slip into the Kesy Outfit, I am a living canvas—draped in couture, painted in ink, and telling a story that is entirely my own.

The Kesy’s structured top recalls the satin bustiers of coutre’s golden age, while its flirtatious skirt echoes the swish of vintage petticoats, now unapologetically cropped to bare my legs. The panties—offered with or without delicate lace trim—are that final Parisian secret, the kind whispered about in hidden salons.

From my Fatpack HUD, an entire wardrobe blooms in my hands:

* Top: 12 lustrous shades—inky black, optic white, deep scarlet, blush rose, champagne gold, silver frost, midnight navy, soft lilac, emerald, cocoa, coral flame, and tangerine blaze.

* Skirt: Match or contrast in the same opulent spectrum, each tone changing the mood and drape.

* Panties: Lace or no lace, in every color, so I can shift between refined seduction and bold allure.

Perfect fit for:

Legacy

Reborn

Waifu

Lara X

Kupra

But fabric is only part of my story. Beneath and beyond the silk lies the VENUS ASTRAVAMP “Get This Look” Tattoo Fatpack—artwork that transforms my skin into a gallery of symbols, romance, and mystique.

The LOTUSVAMP series unfurls across my arms and shoulders in 12 designs—lotus blossoms painted in velvety gradients, baroque scrollwork curling like gilded frames, and roses rendered with Victorian botanical precision, each petal burning with color and depth.

The ASTRA collection carries me to the stars—24 celestial designs mirrored for left and right. Moons cradle constellations, stars swirl in fine filigree, and planetary arcs trace the ancient cartographer’s vision of the heavens.

On my thigh, a heart rests within a crescent moon, surrounded by scattered stars—love protected by the night, a quiet promise etched into my skin.

Each tattoo comes in six finishes:

* Fresh – vibrant and new

* Faded – soft, like a well-loved memory

* Aged – worn with the romance of time

* Old – steeped in history

* Black & White – timeless and graphic

* Tintable – mine to recolor in emeralds, sapphires, or blood-rich crimsons

Every detail—fabric or ink—works in harmony. The silk of the Kesy Outfit drapes and flirts; the artistry of the ASTRAVAMP tattoos wraps me in narrative and meaning. Together, they are not just something I wear… they are the embodiment of my identity, my history, and my mood—fashion and art in perfect symbiosis.

Both the LF Design Kesy Outfit and the VENUS ASTRAVAMP Tattoo Collection are exclusively available now at the Swank August Around the World Sales Event:

This is my self-portrait in a conceptual way. I trimmed my body to the shape of a vessel or a bottle. Our bodies are vessels for time. All the time that we pass is filled in our bodies. We are the results and embodiments of the time we lived and experienced. In this portrait, my long hair, which hasn't been cut for more than 10 years, is the result and the embodiment of the past decade I've experienced.

This image is a picturesque embodiment of nature's quiet dialogue, captured from the secluded banks of a serene lakeside. The foreground is adorned with tall, slender reeds standing like nature's sentinels at the water's edge, swaying softly with the whispers of the wind. Through the natural archway formed by the overhanging willow branches and the sturdy trunks of the trees, one's gaze is drawn to the expansive body of the lake, its surface a mirror reflecting the clear sky and the distant, gentle slopes of the hills beyond. The lush greenery and the calm, soothing waters conjure a sense of seclusion and tranquility, offering a sanctuary for both wildlife and introspective souls. It's a scene where the rustle of leaves and the quiet lapping of water against the shore compose the ambient symphony of the great outdoors. This photograph is a reminder of the still moments of beauty that lie waiting in our natural surroundings, inviting us to step outside and partake in the peace they offer.

For those who have followed my stuff over the years, you know that I typically upload a single image every 2-4 days. This is an unusual day in that this is the first of 4 images, to better illustrate this amazing behemoth Bentley concept car, the EXP 100 GT, first shown in 2019 and imagining what an ideal Electric GT, for.....not the masses, but for the ultra-wealthy might look like.......more to come

Look at that massive door! This 20 ft. long Behemoth is for 3 passengers.

The EXP 100 GT itself was first unveiled in July of this year, intended as a "physical embodiment of the future Bentley brand," featuring a battery-electric powertrain with a predicted range of 435 miles. Looking a decade and a half into the future in imagining the grand tourer of 2035, the concept also incorporates design details of the cars of Bentley's distant past while offering 1,340 hp and 1,100 lb-ft of torque courtesy of four electric motors.

"The Bentley EXP 100 GT represents the kind of cars we want to make in the future," said Stefan Sielaff, Bentley director of design. "Like those iconic Bentleys of the past, this car connects with its passengers’ emotions and helps them experience and safeguard the memories of the really extraordinary journeys they take."

The mesh grille, composed of 6,000 LED bulbs, is the most intricate exterior element, but the automaker has spent just as much time crafting the interior, using materials such as 5,000-year-old copper-infused riverwood. Despite the use of carbon fiber and aluminum, curb weight is not one of the concept's priorities, tipping the scales at 4,188 pounds; the size of the battery required for a range of 435 miles and 0-60-mph sprints in 2.5 seconds is on the larger side, as you might imagine. The concept itself is also larger than its sleek visual profile suggests in the photos: The EXP 100 GT is 19 feet long and 7.8 feet wide.

The EXP 100 GT is powered by individual motors at each wheel, allowing advanced dynamic controls like torque vectoring. Together, the four motors put out a jaw dropping 1,100 lb ft of torque, enough to propel the car to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds. Top speed is a claimed 186 mph.

The electric drivetrain allows for a hood that is less tall than usually found on Bentleys, and access to the car’s interior is provided by two exceptionally long (2 meters) scissor doors that open vertically.

Production plans? Well, it's not 2035 on the calendar just yet, but when it comes to the powertrain there is little doubt the entire Bentley range will be available in electrified form by then. Perhaps even sooner.

Uniform of The Louth Militia (reproduction) - The Louth Militia was formed mid 18th Century - Millmount Fort, Drogheda, County Louth.

"As a result of the ballot for precedence on the Militia roll, the Louth Militia became one of the most senior units and was designated the 5th Battalion. Although it numbered only 6 companies it appears to have been described as a regiment rather than a battalion from its earliest days. However, the Louth absorbed the small Drogheda Battalion in 1800, thereby achieving regimental status.

The Colonel of the Louth Regiment was John Foster, 1st Baron Oriel, and the last Speaker of the Irish House of Commons, while the Lieutenant Colonel was Lord Louth. Among the officers of the regiment was Sir Edward Bellew, a Catholic, whose son, Lord Bellew, was to be appointed Colonel of the Regiment in November 1843. The Catholic Relief Act of 1793 had removed most of the restrictions on Catholics in public life, including the ban on joining the Army.

In spite of its small size the Louth Militia earned a good reputation for efficiency. When, in October 1798, General Lake ordered that a proportion of men in each regiment in his district ‘be immediately trained to act as light infantry, to practise firing at the target until they are perfect marksmen’, he set a goal for units to achieve. Thus in March 1799 the Louth Regiment was authorised to form ‘sharpshooters’, armed with ‘short muskets’, these being the 1768-pattern weapon which was being replaced in the Regular Army by the new 1793 pattern. Three sergeants and 64 soldiers of the Louths undertook training as sharpshooters.

The threat of a French invasion at Bantry Bay in 1796 led to a deployment of additional Militia units to counter any landing. Among those so deployed was the Louth Regiment, which marched from its base in Limerick towards the area of threat, passing over mountainous terrain in cold December weather. However, the French fleet had been dispersed by storms and no invasion took place. Not until 1798 and the rebellion in Leinster did the Louths see action and then solely at Whiteheaps in Wicklow on 5 July. Only the Louth Regiment and the Leitrim Battalion were involved in this action. In the subsequent rebel guerrilla campaign in the Wicklow Mountains the Louth Regiment played a part in containing the actions of rebel groups.

Exact dates for the embodiment of the Louth Militia between 1793 and 1816 are not known but would have covered the periods 1793 to 1802, 1802 to 1814 and 1815 to 1816. In common with the other Militia units the Louth Regiment was reduced to cadre strength in 1816. With the 1833 re-organisation of the Militia throughout the United Kingdom the unit became the 108th Louth Regiment and was redesignated the 108th Louth Rifles in 1855.

On 1 February 1855 the Louths were embodied for the Crimean War. That embodiment ended on 1 July 1856 but was followed in October 1857 by embodiment for the Indian Mutiny until 31 July 1857.

Lord Bellew, the Lord Lieutenant for County Louth, was appointed Colonel of the Regiment on 17 November 1843. In October 1847 Lord Massereene was appointed Lieutenant Colonel. Although the name Massereene is more commonly associated with Antrim, the family also had a home in County Louth, at Collon. Lord Massereene had a further family connection with the Regiment, being a descendant of its first Colonel, John Foster. Several of the officers of the Regiment in 1850 held commissions that had been granted during the early embodiments, Captain Latham Hamlon (1 February 1806) and Thomas Phipoe (20 June 1808) being the most senior. Ensign Tarquel Macneill and Surgeon Robert Pentland were the newest officers, both having been appointed on 2 February 1849. At that time the HQ of the regiment was at Dunleer.

In 1881 the Louth Rifles became the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles as the Childers Reforms were implemented. The Battalion held its annual training camps at Dundalk where a new rifle range was opened in the late 1890s. When, in February 1899, a new regulation for the Militia battalions decreed that brigade training camps be held a question was asked in the House of Commons about the War Office’s intentions. It was feared that all training for the Battalion was to be moved from Dundalk but an assurance was given that the Louth Militia would be trained at Dundalk at least one year in every three and in brigade camps, which it would not have been possible to hold at Dundalk, in the other years.

On 6 December 1899 the Battalion was embodied for the Second South African War and remained so until 17 October 1900. This was the final embodiment for the Louths. In 1908, as part of the Haldane Reforms, the Irish Militia was redesignated the Special Reserve and a number of Militia battalions were disbanded, among them being the 6th Royal Irish Rifles.

MULTI-COLOR DRAGON CHINESE COSTUME.

The Chinese dragon or Oriental dragon is a mythical creature in East Asian culture with a Chinese origin. It is visualized these days as a long, scaled, snake-like creature with four legs and five claws on each (though it did not always have five claws). Chinese dragon has long been a potent symbol of auspicious power in Chinese folklore and art. The Chinese dragon is traditionally also the embodiment of the concept of YANG (male) and associated with the weather as the bringer of rain and water in an agriculturally water-driven nation. It's female counterpart is the FENGHUANG (usually translated as a phoenix)

this is not how i originally intended to go out on 365, but after spending the day thinking it over i've decided that this alternate photo is actually perfect. first, let me say that my initial plan was to photograph myself at the top of the art musuem steps in the pose that made rocky balboa an icon. i couldn't actually imagine a better ending. after all, most of my photos (self portraits and otherwise) are intended as one long love poem to the city and people of philadelphia. the rocky shot not only incorporated my love for the city but other themes i've pursued in my work (e.g., the grit of the illa, the determination of the underdog, the beauty and poetry of boxing... not to mention that i regularly run by the art museum). when i woke up this morning, the sky was clear and i knew i was gonna get a great sunrise shot. sweet perfection.

the first sign things weren't gonna go as planned was when i emerged from the house at 6am and disrupted a drug deal taking place outside my door. one of the dealers followed me in his car a few blocks... on the plus side, the surge of adrenaline was a nice way to start the day. the next sign of trouble was at the museum. i had completely and totally forgotten about the macy's thanksgiving day parade which stages--you guessed it--on the art museum steps. i tried unsuccessfully to get a press pass. ultimately, i went around the museum and snuck past a police barricade to get to the steps but once there, the police refused to let me take the photo. they were quite sweet about the whole thing... it was just that hundreds of children dressed as elves were on the verge of flooding the stairs. they were looking out for me (*coughs*).

i thought about just having them arrest me and photographing that, but it's already been done and by others in 365.

i ended up in a mild state of panic and that's when i saw the light hitting the columns at the top of the art museum stairs. and then i had an idea...

what if me and okp appeared in a photo together?

as a social scientist, one of the things about flickr that i find fascinating is how identity is negotiated in online versus face to face relationships. a number of my f2f friends and family lurk on flickr and we inevitably end up having conversations (and sometimes debates) over the extent to which OKP is consistent with the ways that they know me. some regard OKP as the embodiment of my identity, others argue OKP is, at best, a exaggerated element of my personality. several of my flickr friends have raised similar questions... i can remember both Hryck and MER (among others) noting that i was likely a good bit more vulnerable than my self portraits would otherwise suggest.

in reflecting on 365 and the portraits, it occurs to me that there are elements of truth in all of this. on one level, it is absolutely the case that my identity is broader than what is represented on my stream. in my early days on flickr (and well before i started 365), i showed (albeit rarely) myself in vulernable moments. i don't do that anymore. i can remember one shot for 365 in which i spent much of the day crying about a personal crisis but what i ended up portraying for the photograph was my fist. ha, i'd kinda like to think that's the philly in me.

in addition to not showing vulnerability, i rarely photograph myself laughing. the irony is that in my waking life, i'm laughing most of the time. for whatever reason, i have a tough time smiling naturally for a self portrait. in the ones that i've done it, it's usually because mr. OKP is in the room. he always knows how to make me smile.

so, yeah, i'm broader than the self portraits. at the same time, i don't regard OKP as an exaggeration per se... OKP is my essence in the sense that i've been able to express my creativity, my sense of humor, my politics, my aesthetics, and my body in ways that i can't at work or in some f2f relationships.

so, there ya have it... this is about as close to a personal disclosure as you're gonna get on this stream...

and, by way of closing... let me say thanks to all of you (that includes my lurking friends & family as well). i look forward to your daily witticisms and your photos. you regularly inspire me and, perhaps more importantly, you make me laugh. what more could a girl want?

oh, right. stilettos.
