Durbar Square is a historically and culturally significant site in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is one of the three Durbar (royal palace) Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Although the construction of the square began in the 3rd century, the major structures within it were added in later periods. The outer complex consists of a number of 16th-century temples built during the reign of Malla kings. These buildings are adorned with meticulously carved facades characteristic to Newar architecture. The central square is surrounded by palace complexes built during the Malla and Shah periods. The most well-known among them is the Nautalle Durbar, a nine-story palace built by Prithvi Narayan Shah to commemorate the Unification of Nepal.
A three-story temple called Kumari Chouk or Kumari Bahal is located at the southern edge of the Durbar square. This Malla-era temple is used as the resident of the Kumari, a young girl worshipped as a living embodiment of the Hindu Goddess Durga.

So after a frantic couple of weeks I had a free afternoon and it was pouring down so perfect for some hard drive clearing. Problem was, as usual, I found some shots I liked and did a bit of editing and so end up with even more on the computer.
I love watching otters eat - the embodiment of gusto. You can see a nosey seal in the very top left. In fact a day tracking these along the shoreline and getting down in the seaweed to watch and photograph them is just about perfect for me.

In the mountains above the city of Chiang Mai is the temple Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, this collection of buildings was the highlight of the tour of Thailand. The beauty of its buildings just completely overwhelmed one . This is one of the smaller temples in the complex but like all of them the ornamentation is remarkable
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is an impressive embodiment of the Lanna (northern Thai) culture and is a symbol deeply cherished by the people of Chiang Mai. The temple's origins date back almost seven hundred years, to 1382 and the legend surrounding the founding of the temple is one of those mysteries of Asia .

This photo is my recreation of the famous V-J Day in Times Square photo. Cla Jones and I worked for a few hours getting the pose right. She had the idea better thought out than I did. Then just as I was going to start adjusting the WL, my BD crashed. Thankfully I got a "test pic" in just before.
Anyway, this photo and others will be on display at the 17th Annual SL Veteran’s Tribute for 2023. The tribute will be open from November 1st through November 15th!

The EXP 100 GT itself was first unveiled in July of this year, intended as a "physical embodiment of the future Bentley brand," featuring a battery-electric powertrain with a predicted range of 435 miles. Looking a decade and a half into the future in imagining the grand tourer of 2035, the concept also incorporates design details of the cars of Bentley's distant past while offering 1,340 hp and 1,100 lb-ft of torque courtesy of four electric motors.
"The Bentley EXP 100 GT represents the kind of cars we want to make in the future," said Stefan Sielaff, Bentley director of design. "Like those iconic Bentleys of the past, this car connects with its passengers’ emotions and helps them experience and safeguard the memories of the really extraordinary journeys they take."
The mesh grille, composed of 6,000 LED bulbs, is the most intricate exterior element, but the automaker has spent just as much time crafting the interior, using materials such as 5,000-year-old copper-infused riverwood. Despite the use of carbon fiber and aluminum, curb weight is not one of the concept's priorities, tipping the scales at 4,188 pounds; the size of the battery required for a range of 435 miles and 0-60-mph sprints in 2.5 seconds is on the larger side, as you might imagine. The concept itself is also larger than its sleek visual profile suggests in the photos: The EXP 100 GT is 19 feet long and 7.8 feet wide.
The EXP 100 GT is powered by individual motors at each wheel, allowing advanced dynamic controls like torque vectoring. Together, the four motors put out a jaw dropping 1,100 lb ft of torque, enough to propel the car to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds. Top speed is a claimed 186 mph.
The electric drivetrain allows for a hood that is less tall than usually found on Bentleys, and access to the car’s interior is provided by two exceptionally long (2 meters) scissor doors that open vertically.
Production plans? Well, it's not 2035 on the calendar just yet, but when it comes to the powertrain there is little doubt the entire Bentley range will be available in electrified form by then. Perhaps even sooner.
Some days you're just not feeling inspired at all. Some days you want to quit your dreams and passions because you're feeling that terrible artist block. Then you have the days where the inspiration and motivation is so effortless and it just comes to you out of nowhere. That's what this night was. I was just sitting at home and a light bulb went off. Literally. I couldn't stop thinking about light sources to use outside at night for photos. The idea of headlights randomly came to me. So off I went outside with my camera & tripod. I live near a long dirt road that is owned by the water department in my town. It was late and a bit scary going out in the pitch black alone, but there was nothing stopping me from getting the shot I wanted. I took quite a few shots, but this was by far my favorite. I was actually trying to breathe out a breath into the cold air and hoping to capture that. Instead I got this extremely unique look on my face that is quite alluring. Powerful and mysterious.

This collection has been created to celebrate House Style and has been inspired by Deborah, the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire's own insect jewellery collection, given to her by Andrew, the 11th Duke. Deborah's famous insect collection included moths, caterpillars, spiders, wasps, dragonflies, beetles, bees, butterflies and even a grasshopper. She used to wear the brooches pinned to her shoulder, along necklines or across the front of a velvet waistcoat. Each jewel in this collection is a miniature work of art.

The Stutz Torpedo Speedster, which debuted on August 27,
1929, was heralded by the Stutz company as "an ultra-sport
streamlined two-passenger high-speed automobile, the
embodiment of the spirit of modern youth." This particular
car is significant as it is believed to be one of only four
designed and built between 1929 and 1930 by LeBaron
with an aluminum construction contoured specifically to
obtain the greatest possible speed. The tapered tail, cycle
fenders and lack of running boards set this car apart from
other Stutz Boattails. In 1929, one of these cars finished
10th in the Indy 500 race. The Torpedo Vertical 8 Engine
has high compression SV-16 head upgraded at the factory
with 322 CID developing 113 hp. Robert Gottlieb, editor
of Motor Trend magazine, owned this Stutz in his personal
collection from 1972 through 2003. The current owner
acquired the car in 2020

This is the statue on top of the Court House in Georgetown, Texas. I searched the Internet to find out more about her. Themis is untranslatable. A gift of the gods and a mark of civilized existence, sometimes it means right custom, proper procedure, social order, and sometimes merely the will of the gods. Interestingly, the blind fold and sword weren't added until around the 16th century. I couldn't find out what the blindfold represents. Here's some info from Wikipedia

The personification of abstract concepts is characteristic of the greeks.|date=October 2015}} The ability of the goddess Themis to foresee the future enabled her to become one of the Oracles of Delphi, which in turn led to her establishment as the goddess of divine justice.
Some classical representations of Themis did not show her blindfolded, nor was she holding a sword. The sword is also believed to represent the ability Themis had from cutting fact from fiction; to her there was no middle ground. Themis built the Oracle at Delphi and was herself oracular. According to another legend, Themis received the Oracle at Delphi from Gaia and later gave it to Phoebe.[4]
When Themis is disregarded, Nemesis brings just and wrathful retribution; thus Themis shared the Nemesion temple at Rhamnous. Themis is not wrathful: she, "of the lovely cheeks", was the first to offer Hera a cup when she returned to Olympus distraught over threats from Zeus.[5]
Themis presided over the proper relation between man and woman, the basis of the rightly ordered family (the family was seen as the pillar of the deme), and judges were often referred to as "themistopóloi" (the servants of Themis). Such was also the basis for order upon Olympus. Even Hera addressed her as "Lady Themis." The name of Themis might be substituted for Adrasteia in telling of the birth of Zeus on Crete.
Themis was present at Delos to witness the birth of Apollo. According to Ovid, it was Themis rather than Zeus who told Deucalion to throw the bones of "his Mother" over his shoulder to create a new race of humankind after the deluge.
Hesiod's description and contrast to Dike[edit]
In Greek mythology, Hesiod mentions[6] Themis among the six sons and six daughters of Gaia and Uranus (Earth and Sky). Among these Titans of primordial myth, few were venerated at specific sanctuaries in classical times.
Themis occurred in Hesiod's Theogony as the first recorded appearance of Justice as a divine personage. Drawing not only on the socio-religious consciousness of his time but also on many of the earlier cult-religions, Hesiod described the forces of the universe as cosmic divinities. Hesiod portrayed temporal justice, Dike, as the daughter of Zeus and Themis.
Dike executed the law of judgments and sentencing and, together with her mother Themis, carried out the final decisions of Moirai. For Hesiod, Justice is at the center of religious and moral life, who, independently of Zeus, is the embodiment of divine will. This personification of Dike will stand in contrast to justice viewed as custom or law, and as retribution or sentence.[7]
In modern society, it is rare to find a person in a national costume, however, despite this traditional clothing of each people and ethnic groups is still part of the material culture. And it is at the same time a vivid embodiment of historically formed religious beliefs, spiritual values, climatic features, economic order. By the transformation of clothing can be traced the evolutionary development of different civilizations. A striking example of this is the Yakut national dress.

The Porto Cathedral is one of the most important tourist sights in Porto and a historical and architectural landmark of the city at the same time. It is generally deemed one of the most impeccable embodiments of the Romanesque style, though, if truth be told, it is rather a mix of styles and influences with a notable overall Romanesque dash.
But this is no surprise, given the age of the cathedral. The edifice was built between the 12th and the 13th century and in time it suffered structural and decorative additions and alterations, reflecting, as some might tend to believe, the way the architectural tendencies influenced the development of Porto itself in time. The most significant alterations were carried out between the 17th and the 18th century, though earlier modifications of the original patrimony can definitely be pointed out.
Thus, the Gothic cloister was built in the 14th century, and its ceramic tile (azulejos) decorations, which depict scenes inspired by the Song of Solomon, were added even later. The 16th century saw the construction of the Chapel of Saint Vincent, which can be entered right from the cloister. The north facade was added in the first half of the 18th century (1736), a work by Nicolau Nasoni. The Italian architect is also the author of the cathedral’s loggia.Other highlights of the cathedral refer to the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament adorned with an altarpiece which fetches by an exquisitely elaborated scene made of silver, and to the Gothic rose window of the facade, which is one of the few still standing original elements of the cathedral. An interesting historical reference related to the Porto Cathedral is this is the place where Prince Henry the Navigator was baptized.
Consequently, people studied in architecture should definitely take the time to analyze the way the Porto Cathedral expresses a fortunate alliance between three major historical styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. Yet, the edifice remains a must-visit for all tourists of Porto, regardless of their interests in architecture, since Se do Porto is the largest place of worship in Porto and one of the oldest historical monuments.
It was so hard to catch Luna and take a photo of her these days! After breakfast, she hurries outside with a long list of things-to-do-today. She visits bookshops, stares at shop windows for hours (especially toy stores and windows with mannequins wearing fancy clothes), collects leaves and stones and watches birds and flowers... Practically every simple thing that I liked to do when I was little. She is the embodiment of my childhood after all ^__^
But, she also does things I couldn't do then, or things I dreamed of. To be able to squeeze so many activities into a single day, she has to be fast, of course! So she is the best roller-skater in the neighborhood! If you hear the sound of little wheels turning on the pavement, or feel a sweet breeze just like someone passed your house by... Look closely, it may be Luna!
P.S. I made Luna's balloon skirt! I sewed it like a real human balloon skirt which took ages, but here it is and I'm really happy to see her in it, I hope she is happy, too ^_^
