Elephant Nature Park is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation center in Northern Thailand where you can volunteer and visit to help. We have been involved in dozens of rescues to create our thriving elephant herd.
The park provides a natural environment for elephants and other animals under our care. Volunteers and visitors contribute to the healing while learning about their lives past and present.
We ran across several elephants herds during this afternoon game drive. This is a photo of one of the baby elephants from the first herd.
This elephant was at the elephant orphanage, but becaue it was maltreated many years ago, it killed a man in anger and therefore is closley monitored and put to work around the orphanage
an elephant sanctuary near Chiang Mai, Thailand. you won't see any elephant rides or shows here, but you will see 30+ very happy elephants, many of whom were injured in their former lines of work as tourist objects or illegal logging machines.
each elephant gets her own mahout, or keeper, and they form a lifelong relationship (not exactly the kind of job you can walk into and out of easily!). in the baby's case, he shares with his mother until adulthood. the elephants really grow to trust their mahouts quite a lot, but it's not always an easy task, especially if the elephant has been abused a lot in the past. watching them interact is a beautiful thing.

Elephants demonstrate concern for members of their families, they take care of weak or injured members and appear to grieve over a dead companion.

The first elephant we saw was in heat - he smelled as strong as a whole zoo and seemed quite aggressive. Also, he had five legs, the fifth of which was NSFW.
