Today We’re Here visits Cults, because of the date’s connection to the People’s Temple.

Here locally the wounds of the People’s Temple are still remembered some 40 years on.

This is a monument to the victims of the Jonestown Massacre, some 918 people, including local US Congressman Leo Ryan and some of his investigative group, who were murdered at a nearby airstrip, after visiting the Jonestown settlement, on behalf of a number of his concerned constituents, who had family member who had been brain washed into leaving the Bay Area for Jonestown. Current US Congresswoman Jackie Spears of San Mateo, then a young aide to Congressman Ryan, was shot 5 times and nearly died there too.

4 large stone monoliths were required to list the names of all the victims who died there.

It was much more terrible than the saying “Drinking the Cool Aid” suggests. It was mass murder on a scale unseen in this country until the attacks of 9/11 2001.

Today, I fear we have another similar Cult that seems to have grabbed control of one of our major political party. The level of sycophancy is definitely cult-ish.
