As the panhandle of Florida prepares for the impact of Hurricane Michael, we on the east coast are feeling only mild effects of the outer bands of the storm wrapping around the state. My brother's car died a while ago and he's been taking the bus to work until he can afford another, but that has the down side of causing him to have to deal with being caught in inclement weather, so knowing it was going to pour this morning, I got up early to take him to work. On the way back, I decided to stop along the river south of my home in Port Orange, and capture some shots of the water and the effects of the storm. It was very windy and so hot and humid that when I got out of the car, my camera's lens fogged up, and even wiping it off wasn't getting rid of the misty look. As I was getting damp from the spray of the water from about 20 feet away, I walked back to the car and attempted to de-fog the lens again, but had no luck until I sat in the car, rather blown apart, and turned on the AC to get some of the humidity off the lens. This shot was zoomed into, as I knew once I walked back out, the lens would fog up again!
I may post some of the foggy shots, as they look kind of cool anyway, even though you really can't see much detail. As you can see, the river was rough and choppy, and the wind was kicking up. I pity the poor folks in the path of that storm. It is expected to be somewhere between a Category 2 and 3 when it makes landfall.

That day I took this shot of the Thomas Viaduct a few weeks back the sunlight was very strong and wasnt favorable to my shot here so I decided B&W and some added effects might be good for this shot. I was thrilled to see that train sitting on top of the Viaduct that day as usually Iam not that lucky when usually visiting the T.V. I usually dont see a train on the bridge. The bridge is on the National Historic Resistry and has been since the 1960s. This masterpiece among bridges was constructed for the B&0 railiroad in the 1830s and as you can more than 150 years later the trains still use the bridge. CSX.
There was just something about this one I loved...perhaps it was the apprehensive look the horse wore on the right...like, ''don't touch me!''..lol.

The engineer of this southbound Canadian National train at Conneaut, Ohio, is waiting for his conductor to get a ride to the head end so they can depart town with a load of taconite pellets. The train shows the effect of winter on the former Bessemer & Lake Erie route.
Why is alcohol so popular? Why is this drug culturally so positively perceived, despite all the problems and deaths it is responsible for?
A first explanation lies probably in the short-term effects of such beverage. Alcohol increases self-confidence, sociability, and decreases anxiety: it is easy to temporarily feel like being a better person, which is always good for ego. As a consequence, under such influence, people tend to try things they usually wouldn't: attempt physically dangerous things even though you are usually afraid of them, go talk to that beautiful lonely woman even though you are usually too shy for that, use bad language even though you are usually very polite, etc. After all, it is very natural to aspire becoming a better person.
Of course, those effects are a lie, just an illusion. Most people are aware of that, but keep drinking anyway, be it occasionally or regularly. Just an illusion, but a strong one. This is where things can easily get pretty bad. In addition of the previously mentioned effects, one could also quote delayed reactions, impaired senses, dizziness, vomiting, decreased heart rate, impaired memory, unconsciousness. These ones unfortunately lead to accidents, injuries, or even direct and violent deaths. Moreover, everyone also knows about alcohol addiction. This drug is quite powerful, and getting rid of it once it managed to intoxicate your life is extremely hard. Keep in mind that in western countries, about 10% of the population had or has some serious alcohol dependance problem. An incredibly huge ratio.
In that creation, I tried to illustrate what kind of lying beast is alcohol. I symbolized it using those eyeballs and the giant tongue, which becomes a smiling woman, looking much better than the thing itself, designed trap its victims efficiently. The man doesn't seem to realize what is really happening, and his life is slowly being flushed in a vortex, including his own body, his money, his family and friends. You can see that I represented those with their heads covered: too often, relatives choose to look away, and let the person sink.

Spotted this in a nearby river estuary. It looked like the remnants of a raft made out of barrels, planks and old rope! Maybe a group of kids had once had some fun coming up with ways of crossing to the other side!? I can remember doing that myself on the odd occasion..:-).
The jetty down to the river edge also looked a bit worse for wear!
