On October 23, educators from throughout the region were invited to attend the highly anticipated AVID Showcase presented by John E. Dwyer Technology Academy, the only school in New Jersey scheduled to demonstrate its very successful AVID Program during the 2018-2019 school year.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a research-based instructional model that encourages students to prepare for and participate in a challenging college preparatory curriculum. AVID Secondary equips teachers and schools with what they need to help students succeed on a path to college and career success. Dwyer Technology Academy students take the AVID elective, a one period course each day offering the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in their school’s most rigorous courses.

The showcase allowed for select AVID schools to demonstrate the elective to educators and share best educational practices. Educators who attended the showcase observed an AVID Elective class, saw and learned about the key components of AVID, discussed implementing AVID with Dwyer Technology Academy school administrators and teachers, heard from Dwyer Technology Academy AVID students, and reviewed data and results from AVID students from Dwyer Technology Academy.

Korean Educators Program Commencement | June 15

How many of you have had male teachers throughout elementary school? It was quite rare until about forty or fifty years ago. Women were the only sought after sex for the position of educator. This has taken an extreme reverse; men are sometimes preferred in many school systems. Sometimes it is only because they are wanted for the sciences, but still preferred. This is an especially interesting example; this is because it is one of the few occupations that have tilted from the females towards the males. In fact, over a third of teachers are male now and it is on the rise; probably more like fifty percent at universities.
