Parents, students, educators and social justice advocates from across Massachusetts testified at the State House on June 11 in favor of bills that would curtail the use of high-stakes standardized testing in public education. The hearing was one of several events including in a Week of Action organized by the Massachusetts Justice Education Alliance, of which MTA is a founding member. During the week, thousands of members and students wore “Less Testing/More Learning” stickers and posted the message on social media. Also during the week, legislators were contacted at in-district meetings and through phone calls. They were asked to support H. 340, the MTA-backed bill that would impose a three-year moratorium on the high-stakes use of standardized tests. More info available at massteacher.org/testing.
