Oliver managed to sneak himself in to be the photo of the day again. I think the cats are starting to feel left out. My plan was a landscape or maybe a winter macro but sometimes the picture of the day presents itself when you least expect it. I was practicing with my new lens and whamo, there it was. I would have also have liked the tongue shot which is posted below but Oliver's eyes were not sharp enough to make the cut. Hoping one day he will stick his tongue out for me again.

The spectacular 20-metre-high sculpture, portraying the head of a girl with her eyes closed, is the artist's response to a brief developed through conversations with ex-miners and members of the wider local community. Dream is fabricated in pre-cast concrete, with a white, almost luminescent finish of white marble and concrete aggregate, in marked contrast to the black of the coal that still lies below.

Why should I care what other people think of me? I am who I am and who I wanna be...

Another exciting piece of news is the arival of my brand new camera, Canon D5! I got it yesterday, here is one of the first shots taken with it, a shot of my little brother, with a set 50mm lense.

I had been struggling to come up with ideas for my annual Christmas cat photo card. Although this shot didn't make the final cut, I definitely wanted to share it with my Flickr friends because it makes me smile. I will share my final creation closer to Christmas.
I was contemplating not doing a card this year, since the cards in the past have featured my "cats" and now there is only a "cat". I still miss my Tiger terribly at times. But I enjoy making the photo cards, so I didn't really want to skip a year.
Montana did really well. He was quite cooperative. Of course, it probably helped that I wasn't trying to make him "dress up" or anything. ;)
If you search cats and Christmas on Flickr, you'll find plenty of cats looking less than thrilled in their Christmas attire.
Rummaging through some boxes, I found a piece of paper on which I had scribbled "We breathe different when we sleep. Heavier." I don't know when or why I wrote it, but there it was crumpled up underneath old birthday cards and colored pencils.

This is Flash, the cat who thinks he’s a dog… or maybe something bigger. He’s been known to stalk the other cats in the house, chase foxes when outdoors, and he even stared down a deer once in our backyard (true story, there were witnesses). Every so often my Mom will get a call from someone several neighborhoods away saying they found a cat roaming around their yard and called the number on his collar. This actually happens less often than it should, since Flash has a tendency to escape from whatever collar is put on him.
Despite all that, on this particular day he was out for the count. This was early afternoon and he could barely keep his eyes open after we woke him up from his nap in the sun on a bench outside. I can only imagine what nighttime terror he inflicted on the small animals in our area to make him so sleepy.
