Hornstråle, også kalt Hottentottfiken er ofte å se langs strendene på Costa del Sol og rundt Middelhavet forøvrig. Der den danner store tepper. Hornstråle stammer fra Kapp-provinsen i Sør-Afrika men er plantet og har forvillet seg til mange kyststrøk i varmere strøk rundt på kloden. Den kan være svært invaderende og trenger vekk opprinnelige planter langs kysten. Men i dens forsvar kan det også sies at den forhindrer jorderosjon i tørre områder da den danner et teppe og binder jorden.
Den er også mye plantet i hager, parker og i rundkjøringer.
De sterkt rosafargete eller sitrongule blomstene er store (opptil 8 cm i diameter)og dekorative med sine tallrike silkeaktige tynne kronblader. hele planten er kjøttfull, typisk for middagsblomstfamilien.
Bladene er trekantete, spisse i enden og kjøttfulle.
Frukten som dannes midt i blomsten er spiselig og har muligens gitt opphav til navnet Hottentot Fig, da den kan se ut som en fikenfrukt.

There are many types of tourism: cultural tourism, ecotourism, adventure tourism, etc. The word tourism evokes the sun, white beaches, adventure and discovery of new horizons. The oasis of Merzouga is become well-known due to the growth of tourism in south-eastern Morocco. Though it seems there is more interest from foreign authors, film-makers, anthropologists, etc., than from Moroccan writers who sometimes take for granted the heart-felt beauty of this great oasis. Biomedical engineering students created a "command center" for 10-year-old Vladimir Elliott, a Serbian child adopted and brought to the U.S. who has SOX2 anopthalmia syndrome, which has left him blind and mentally and physically disabled. This picture is part of the Photography for Change Project in Exeter, which was 10-week participatory photography programme that enabled participants to create their own photo-story or photographic theme and build a portfolio of images that reflect the positive aspects of their lives.
This project used photography as a means of engagement and empowerment and was managed by Meridian Raw CIC and part funded by the Big Lottery Fund
