This beautiful restored CP locomotive is making a trip from Calgary Alta to Mexico City, Mexico and left St. Paul, MN this morning continuing it's journey. I chose this spot thinking it would be less crowded and it was perfect. About a dozen of us there waiting. I am really happy with the results. I don't get out often for special pics like this but made the effort this morning.

Taken exactly a year ago while trying out my EOSM mirror backup camera. Funny not to be living next to these falls now, seem like a distant memory when I would pop down every week to see how they were doing.
An older photo I took in January of this year, of the Empress Hotel and Victoria's causeway and inner harbor.
I am so sorry I've not been commenting on many photos lately. I'm working really long days and every night after dinner I'm at my mother's house helping her from her post surgery. I am so exhausted but I'll definitely catch up this week with everyone. I hope everyone has a really great Tuesday. :D
Canadian Pacific Hudson 2816 is northbound at Sturtevant passing a nice weekday crowd as she heads back to Canada in 2004.
I used the same RAW files from which "Empress ex tempore", a black & white photograph, was created to attempt a colour version. Each RAW was re-processed from scratch, instead of simply desaturating.

Blackpool Winter Gardens - Empress Ballroom. Opened in an unfinished state in August 1896, and designed by Mangnall & Littlewood with decor by J.M.Boekbinder and paintings by W. E. Neatby, it is one of the largest ballrooms in the world. At over 20,000 sq ft, it can accommodate over 3,000 people on the dance floor and in the wrap-around balconies. It had its own entrance at the corner of Adelaide Street and Leopold Grove, still used as a get-in, the public usually enter from the main Winter Gardens entrance in Church Street. The whole complex was purchased by Blackpool Corporation in 2010 and is receiving on-going renovation. Just before these photos were taken, the remaining four chandeliers were installed - the first time since the 1950s that they have been seen in situ. The ceiling has been repaired, but is awaiting redecoration - no easy task when the Winter Gardens is such a busy venue. In the Empress acts such as Queen, Rolling Stones have given concerts, the Blackpool Dance Festival has occupied the floor annually since the 1920s, and every major political party has staged National Conferences here. A Wurlitzer Organ was installed in 1935 (only 6 years old and transferred from the Tower Ballroom with a new console and an additional manual and 3 ranks) but was removed circa 1969. In 2014 a replacement instrument was installed, incorporating elements from several instruments, including some pipes from the original Empress organ. The Winter Gardens is Grade 2* listed.

Yet another shot from Friday 28 June 2013, in The Valley Of The Waters, Blue Mountains National Park, NSW, Australia.
This was taken immediately after "Empress Falls". Again another 3-shot Shift, but this time Tilt was also engaged for a field of focus which I positioned from the top of the falls to the tree and rocks in the foreground. And this time I reduced each exposure by 10 seconds to 80 seconds.
I was anxious to finish shooting at this stop for several reasons. First, the ideal light and weather could not be guaranteed to last long (as it turned out, it did, making it one of my best ever shoots in the Blue Mountains). Second, I was anxious to start the climb up on the left of the falls to shoot the first spout from the side (which I did). Third, I also wanted to continue down the valley to shoot as many of the subsequent falls as I could in the time available (which I also did).
Post was mainly concerned with luminance and contrast adjustments.
