My Secret Santa gift for the legendary builder Mischief: a reimagining of his Empress Demos. Mischief built the original over a decade ago, and its stylized proportions and sharp silhouette remain inspiring today. More pictures in the album.
This pretty orange butterfly with a pattern of black and white spots has the royal name of Empress Leilia. This one was seemingly admiring its own reflection in the glass as it perched on the outside of one of my windows. The interior blinds made a nice background pattern.

We happened upon this rather stunning sternwheeler docked at Stevenson, Washington last Fall. I have seen it there a few times, as well as at The Dalles and Hood River. It's always worth taking pictures of it, especially when there's good light.

A rainforest is an area of tall, mostly evergreen trees and a high amount of rainfall. Rainforests are Earth’s oldest living ecosystems, with some surviving in their present form for at least 70 million years. They are incredibly diverse and complex, home to more than half of the world’s plant and animal species—even though they cover just 6% of Earth’s surface. This makes rainforests astoundingly dense with flora and fauna. Rainforests’ rich biodiversity is incredibly important to our well-being and the well-being of our planet.
"The war rises over our already ruined land, and the ground rumbles as nations move. Conquest is the hearts of many.
Only we march with a driven purpose. A focus. We must unite them all."
Emmarin Fenhir; Empress of the Varulev Empire
______________________________________________
Empress Fenhir is the current ruler of the Varulev Empire, and is the one destined to lead her nation to an era of united peace.
Fenhir was born and raised on the run, escaping from the former tyrannical rulers of the Varulev when she was a mere six years old.
Time passed, and Fenhir was raised alongside the Varulev people as they built their new nation, a nation built on trust and unity.
These ideals struck deeply within Fenhir's heart, and she quickly began to win the favour of her people as the nation grew.
Known for her caring nature to those around her and her cunning mind as a tactician on the battlefield, Fenhir was the obvious choice when the Varulev decided to officially join as a nation.
Never one for flashy dress, Fenhir designed and proudly wears the Varulev Coat of Arms, an officer's coat with golden trim, as a symbol of her leadership.
Alongside her snow white hawk, Springtail, and hoisting the standard of the Flying V, Empress Fenhir is ready to unite this war torn world, and save those who cannot save themselves.

Two images here, one with a ND filter to provide a slower water effect (long exposure) and the other a faster shutter speed to try and catch the people in relatively 'still action'.

I’ll eventually add a bio and a description, but for now she’s the leader of the mysterious Skylark Society, a futuristic militia that crushes anything in its way.
There is no war in the empire. No want, no strife, no disunity, no dissent. Only peace.

A welcome break today, 7th April, 2021, from the endless school runs and rail replacement with a run out in both of Empress' Bedford J2 Plaxton Embassies, my first experience of these little curiosities.
When Ethan A. Winning commented on an old post of this Empress Leilia butterfly, he noted the unusual proboscis that appeared to be flat in its coiled position. That had me curious so I dug into the archives to see if there was a more definitive view. Yup, it's flat. Observed at the Papalote Rancho Viejo campsite in Big Bend Ranch State Park.
