Its been a long day running across western Louisiana and southeast Texas, but CP 2816's day isn't done just yet. The train has entered one of its bigger gauntlets: the Houston Terminal.
The Final Spike Tour is approaching the junction at Tower 87 alongside UP's massive Englewood Yard in northeast Houston. With a hump job on one side, and a line of pace cars on the other, the Empress will be navigating a number of tight interlockings and junctions as the train works its way past Englewood and through Houston.

I've only got 3 weeks to go till my next adventure! So I'm cramming in some training and doing some photography along the way. My favourite training ground takes me down through the valley of the waters. A selection of amazing waterfalls all the way down to Vera Falls. I thought training was all about pain ;)
This shot of Empress Leilia shows the wings folded, displaying the brown and white underwing pattern with a wavy line of "eye" spots. A pretty butterfly no matter how you look at it. Montell, Uvalde County, Texas in July 2021
The Empress, is one of the oldest hotels in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It is situated in Downtown Victoria, facing the city's Inner Harbour. The hotel was designed by Francis Rattenbury, and was built in 1908 by Canadian Pacific Hotels. Architecural style, Châteauesque.
I stumbled across the Empress Chambers; there is so much to see. It's a beach resort that meets a historical Chinese town.
It's extensive, fun, and well-built. It includes four villas with adult furniture (no privacy, but free). It's also been updated for PBR.
Overall, it was great, and it deserves more traffic.
The was the Empress Hotel which was built in 1908 by a German financier in the remote and tiny mountain town of Stewart in north west British Columbia. Note the glacier on the mountain just below the line of clouds.
His idea was that it would be a base for the Canadian Northeastern Railway, which was to connect tidewater at Stewart directly east through the mountains to the wheatlands of Alberta and the Prairies. However, the railway was never built.
See it on black here.

Empress Falls at Wentworth Falls, NSW, Australia. Very challenging fall as three groups of canyoners came through that afternoon. Trying to get a clear shot was quite difficult. This is the bottom section of the fall not quite so high, so it wasn't inhabited by the canyoners.

An empress needs a space fitting of her status to be the boss, and this collection gives. A little naughty and a little sweet, an elegant home office space awaits.
Multiple other colour options included.
Please note to fully appreciate this Collection, PBR is required. PBR allows for a more accurate representation of how materials interact with light, making the collection’s high-quality finishes and intricate details truly come to life.
Though the Empress Brilliant looks heavily built for a hummingbird, it is the display of that sleek and streamlined profile which indicates that it has all the acrobatic skills required to access hanging flowers with long corollas and hawk insects in the air.
Found in Columbia and Ecuador, where we sighted this one, it is resident in cloud forest and other tropical and sub-tropical moist forests.
Yes, this trip was almost a year ago...but I was digging through old photos and just HAD to post it. This is the gorgeous REGAL EMPRESS, built in 1953 on the Clyde in Scotland. Built as the OLYMPIA for the Greek Line, she served roles as the CARIBE and CARIBE I before becoming REGAL EMPRESS in 1993. She served out her final years for Imperial Majesty Cruise Lines, a budget line running two- and three-day cruises from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau. (Today, this line morphed into Celebration Cruise Lines.)
I took this photo 8 January 2009. By March, REGAL E was out of service. Today, she's half-demolished on the beach in Alang, India.
She was never the star of the show, no QE2. But she was a damn special ship to spend two nights on for this ship geek.

Built in 19114 to serve the Canadian Pacific Railway. A standard CPR Plan X-12 design and is the only one left in Alberta. It has been beautifully restored and is owned & operated by the Empress Historical Society.
