The show displayed two B-25 Mitchell bombers, in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. This was the second Mitchell to arrive.
B-25J, # 45-8884, was built at North American Aviation's Fairfax (Kansas) plant in 1945. Completed shortly before the plant closed, the bomber was sent directly to a disposal location in Altus, Oklahoma in October. In December of 1946 the bomber was added to the United States Army Air Force inventory but flown directly to storage in Pyote, Texas.
Finally removed from storage in October 1947, 45-8884 was assigned to a base unit at Kelly Field, Texas until 1953 when it moved to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, DC.
Removed from service, in October 1958 the plane was sold to a pilot in St. Paul, Minnesota. The bomber has had various private owners since then.
