Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. The genus is quite large, comprising several hundred species that are native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are renowned for their large, showy flowers and those species are commonly known simply as hibiscus, or less widely known as rose mallow. Other names include hardy hibiscus, rose of sharon, and tropical hibiscus. Several species are native to China. But due to hybridising activities of growers world wide there is now a magnificent range of available flower colours. It loves sun, warm climate and have a couple of flowering flushes, usually in spring and autumn. 21402
Always fun to look for monarch caterpillars amongst the milkweed. So sad that their population has been dwindling due to the loss of their habitat. Very special to see a monarch butterfly these days.
Paphiopedilum at the 2017 San Francisco Orchid Show, Hall of Flowers, Golden Gate Park. Although there were beautiful orchids at the show this year, overall it was a big disappointment. Loss of a sponsor and move to a new venue significantly limited the number of displays, and many growers from Asia and Hawaii did not participate.
Happy weekend! Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

Connecticut Southern CSO-5 builds it’s train in Hartford Yard with what is widely considered the best possible lashup to get on this railroad by buffs in the area. Former LMX B39-8E #8530 leading, and then after that P&W B23-7R “Super 7” #2215 trailing second, 2215 is the only Super 7 operational outside of Ohio as well (8/17/22).

Transforming a deer photograph into a Van Gogh-style masterpiece using AI is a fascinating blend of nature and artistry! Here’s how you can do it:
Capturing the Deer
- Lighting & Composition: Opt for soft, natural light, preferably during golden hour, to highlight the texture of the deer’s fur.
- Background: Consider framing the deer against a dramatic landscape—perhaps misty woods or a sunlit field—to enrich the final aesthetic.
- Movement vs. Stillness: A standing, contemplative deer might suit a portrait effect, while one mid-stride could add dynamic energy.
AI Style Transfer
To achieve a Van Gogh effect:
- Use Style Transfer Tools: Platforms like Deep Dream Generator, Runway ML, or Prisma allow AI to overlay famous artistic styles.
- Adjust Brushstroke Effects: Van Gogh’s style is known for bold brushwork and swirling patterns, so tweak settings to exaggerate movement in the image.
- Color Enhancements: Amplify the saturation and introduce warm yellows, deep blues, and contrasting greens—hallmarks of his palette.
- Texture Refinement: Some tools let you emphasize impasto-like effects, mimicking his thick paint application.
Would you like advice on the best software for achieving this transformation? Or perhaps some tips on fine-tuning the AI-generated output?

This is a photo I took on a visit to the park Bluehendes Barock at Ludwigsburg. I went there to take some photos of the tulips before their season is over but then I discovered that the fountains in the palace gardens made quite interesting photo subjects too and I started to experiment with different shutter speeds. I like how dynamic this one turned out.
An other shot for the ISKON magazine and calendar. This time I've chosen a HDR due to the Dynamic Clouds in the blue sky. The picture was taken @ ISKON temple, Tirupati, India when I was working for their magazine and calendar.

Flickr friends, I'm sorry for being so behind in commenting. I'm having the hardest time with Flickr, it is impossibly slow. Mostly I can only see a bunch of white spaces when I go to your streams. Eventually, after several refreshes, sometimes I can see your pictures. Sometimes not. I hope they fix it!

This Alphajet did a pretty dynamic take-off, staying low, and gently banking for the pleasure of the photographers!

Endemic to this country, the red-spotted Jezebel (also commonly called wood white) is an enchanting sight to behold.
The upper surface of the wing area is white-silver-grey, with black margins and a row of white spots. In both sexes, the under surface of the hindwings is most colourful, showing large yellow patches and subterminal bands of red spots.
Wingspan around 4 cm.
