This shot came about a few months ago. I think it illustrates how a seascape scene is capable of multiple characteristics at the same moment. Benign rocks are lit with the disappearing sun and a ray of light pierces the water. All this while the warmth from the setting sun can almost be felt. The blue clouds also contribute and add a different mood; one of cold and impending storms. The combination of various elements make for a very dynamic seascape.
This 100 second exposure reveals movement on what was a calm peaceful morning on the Susquehanna River.
Another picture from the same deserted location with dynamic and energetic clouds moving toward the lens. This is the best thing one photographer can get in it's landscape images.
We plan so many thing before moving out for photos but we get what nature wants us to show it to the world.

The other day a friend was commenting on the clouds that appear along the Sunshine Coast vs those in Alberta. Ostensibly, those that take shape over the ocean vs those that develop in the prairies. We both came to the conclusion that although the topic of clouds was the same, the resulting forms were often different yet unique to the landscape. (so to speak)
In this image there are two distinct clouds forming in the distance, both over the ocean and developing over a distant island. Pender Island to be exact. One, filling the sky at a higher level, while the other stretching for miles at a specific height catapillaring along the ocean.
After photographing Prairie clouds for the last 26 years, I have noted in my photos they are often quite wispy, or perhaps appearing like giant whipped potatoes in a thunder cloud, or just plain leaden, covering the sky. They too come in many forms, but for the most part, look distinctively different. And, isn't it fun to just watch them as they move inexorably across the sky creating their beauty for us to photograph.
This is why I prefer to shoot the details on a car instead of the whole car. I get shots like this.

There's a single meteor in this image that I didn't notice until I got back and began working on the image. Of course there were a few plane trails to remove as well, I don't like them, they feel like graffiti in the sky to me. This was a beautiful place to view the stars, with natural dunes at my feet and trees silhouetting the horizon. Needless to say images like this humble me. I can't help to wonder what's out there.
This is a fifteen shot blend with seven shots to bring out the foreground detail. It's taken me some years to get to this point in Astro processing. The funny part is this particular image is an example of what not to do. I'm not here to point out it's flaws, but I know what they are. The bottom line is, astro photography is one of the most challenging mediums left in the photography field. There's a combination of factors at play that make a shot like this an extreme challenge. I find myself failing quite frequently.
