Driving down a tiny road with expensive fenced, gated houses, I found one with an apple. I had to stop to capture it. Was it discarded by a teen on the way to school? Escaped from the maid's grocery bag? Placed by an absent-minded jogger while re-lacing her shoe? The possibilities are endlessly intriguing!
The car drives itself. The passengers are being chauffeured by computer.
Seen at the VAIL autonomous driving and parking demonstration at Stanford this weekend.
Here’s a short video of this VW parking itself.
The roof if festooned with spinning LIDAR and cameras, feeding into the server farm in the trunk. With more processing power, I’m guessing that the expensive laser rangefinders will be less essential as the 2D video cameras alone can render a 3D map of the world, much like our brain.
In case you’re wondering, they do have an idea of how to hide all of that equipment, and with Moore’s Law, it will all be soon affordable. Example video with no people in the car.
The next generation may wonder why we wasted 80% of the carrying capacity of our highways, why truckers fell asleep, or what all the fuss was about parallel parking.
What if there was legislation dictating that 30% of the surface of cars had to have health warnings - just like cigarette packaging? All the health warnings on cigarettes apply directly to cars, as well, so it would make sense.

Driving through Poole late in the evening, I held my camera firmly against the dash and selected a 1/2 second exposure. (Yes, I was in the passenger seat!)
These photos were taken during the last half hour of the bronze medal match between Brazil and the Netherlands. The Netherlands won 3-0.
In Denmark it was heavy rain and on the lawn in front of the big screen there were only 8-10 football fans compared to the normal 2,000-3,000 fans for the big matches ...
The rain, the darkness and the light from the big screens gave opportunities for some challenging photography. I'll show them to you here in color though it's not my normale style ... It's just too hard for me ... :)
Here's a shot of Angie driving (the bra strap is a little bonus) "the crew" (me, David, Martha, Meg and herself) around Seattle. Fun times!
This Sony PSP fits just right in front of the speedometer in a 2002 VW Jetta. I can play sound out through the car stereo though I would only see the picture if the weather wasn't so bright and sunny. Here I'm watching (mostly listening to) a 2004 family thanksgiving video.
Sometimes
I’d like to drive back through that little town
Sometimes
And get my feet back on
Get my feet back on the ground
Sometimes you just need a little home
A little "hey, you’ve been gone way too long"
Yeah, way too long
No matter how grown up you get
Oh, no matter how far you roam
Sometimes you just need a little home
Home sweet home
Sometimes you just need a little home
"Hey, mom and dad, what’s goin’ on?”

The end...
I just love this song a lot, full of meanings of love in very simple ways, so I had the thought to visualize its words with some photos series... :)
Hope you enjoyed the idea and series, and don't forget... love can be explained in very simple but valuable precious ways :)

I know it seems weird to see half frame 35mm next to large and ultra large format in my stream. I really like this camera. It is fun to shoot and the results from the Zuiko glass are stellar. I am usually using the 42mm 1.2 but decided to try out the tele again.

Highway 82 along Louisiana's Gulf of Mexico coast is one of the most scenic drives I have been on. Stunning beauty.
