The one and only, last marked of its kind, West Midlands Police | Driving School 12 [DS12] | Jaguar XF | BX10 KCZ on football duty in Birmingham, UK

Originally a traffic car in a set of Jaguar XFs with the Central Motorways Police Group in 2010 at their Perry Barr base, now serves as a driver training car for those training on an advanced ticket, mostly for traffic officers but is regularly used by the football unit to carry officers who interact & gather evidence amongst football crowds. This is one and truly the last of its kind as for marked Jaguar police cars in the whole of the United Kingdom.

Western SMT used a rather austere battleship grey livery for its training fleet, but retaining both cream bands ...beautifully lined-out in black... with the company's exquisitely Edwardian fleetname lettering. My only grumble is that the mudguards should have been black, as in the main fleet. South of the border, National Bus Company fleets had long ago painted out the upper bands of its Lodekkas and discontinued the lining-out of the lower one. Few NBC subsidiaries retained black mudguards. All too much trouble, I suppose, and extra man-hours in the paint shop.
How many of these familiar high street names have disappeared since the photograph was taken in Paisley on Wednesday 17th May 1978? From camera we have H. Samuel, Woolworths, Dunn & Co. (I think), Saxone, John Collier and Boots. I think only Samuel and Boots survive ...although I am not sure about Saxone.

Stagecoach North East's former Stagecoach London Alexander Dennis Enviro 200, 36341 (LX09ACZ), which is now a driver training vehicle in its new life in North East England, is seen here on Burdon Road, Sunderland, on the 23rd July 2026.
Desperate for a London Plaxton picture, I hastily took a picture of DP24603 used for Driver Training whilst at the top of an Enviro 400 on route 49.
Whilst having a trawl around for something different to post I came across this nothing special record shot. It's good that certain pictures acquire a significance with the passage of time, otherwise I for one would probably never look at it again. It shows First PMT's class leading Optare Delta H801 GRE whilst with us at RBW for MoT preparation work. Little did we know that a couple of years later it would join the ranks of the preserved in the care of fellow Flickrite 'Deltabus' who's passionate about the type. Nowadays 801 wears a coat of privatized PMT red and yellow once more and has had missing seating restored since it's Driver Training days. The operator bought nine DAF SB220 based Optares, and eleven Leyland Lynx (Apparently there would have been an equal number of each had the DAF/Optare not been so expensive). By a twist of fate, one of the Lynxes has today passed into my ownership but that's another story!
The 'decker in the background is my ex Turner's Northern Counties bodied Daimler Fleetline which had recently returned from Germany.
Stagecoach Manchester SP06 DBO 22402 MAN 18.220 ALX300, carrying a Stagecoach Training livery, based at Middleton bus depot.
It is seen at Middleton Bus Station Layover after working Driver Training duties.
Standard Fleetline 4023 had been relegated to training duties when its base of Rochdale depot closed in 1991.
It moved to Bolton where it gained 'L' plates and little else, the bus remaining in the brown skirted livery rather than gain a full repaint into the training bus scheme of allover white with an orange band.
The bus would later move to the training centre at Bennett Street, Manchester and at around the same time lost its brown skirt in favour of the whortleberry (Dark grey) that was used on the fleet livery.
The hybrid liveried vehicle is seen at Bennett Street in the mid nineties in between training duties.
